Sam Weideman + contract
Sorry CF. I might be wrong but I can’t think of too many big men (194+) in our squad that are better than him “below their knees”.

Hi Andrew - this site is a great initiative, happy to help keep it going. By the way, how many Demonlanders are there, and how many are actually subscribers?

You may be right. I’m not going to argue the point simply because I don’t know. I’d just be surprised if that were true. Anyway, merry Christmas.

Of course not Redleg. I just wouldn’t have expected such an emphatic statement to have come from Goodwin, given the straight shooter he is, if the opposite were true. If there were other issues, I would have expected rumours to that effect to have emerged long before the trade period. While there has always been rumours about him going back to WA, I’ve certainly never heard of any other issues. Clubs are generally not good at keeping secrets on behaviour issues for long periods.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I have no “inside info” at all to base my comments on, yet I can fully understand from Godwin’s perspective that if Hogan could not commit long term to the MFC, then he had to go. However to insinuate that there were other reasons for trading him would fly in the face of comments Goodwin made before the trade period that “ Jesse loves Melbourne and Melbourne loves Jesse. He’s going nowhere”. I just don’t think Goodwin is the type of guy to not call a spade a spade. But like I said, I don’t have any inside info to back this up. whatever the story really is, and despite the fact that he is playing for Freo, I hope he is now content and is able to reach the full potential of his abilities - just not against us.

Crystal Ball 2019: Predictions for next season
In the dying seconds of the last quarter of the 2019 grand final, Nev leaves his man, races down field, steamrolls Dusty, picks up the ball and nails a snap from the forward flank to put us in front for the first time - and then the siren sounds.

Goodwin signs on until end of 2022
A contract extension is recognition of a job well done so far, and unfinished business. And rightly so. To me, a 3 year extension is the right length of time as it says we believe in what you are doing,, and believe you are the right man for the job, but that with the current squad we believe we should achieve at least one premiership in that 3 year period. If we don’t then we need a new man for the position.

I’m sure all players want to be a part of a premiership side. But all players are not solely motivated by this or else there would be no players left at bottom 8 sides. Hogan has “ given up success” because of a higher motivation, which would have made the decision to go so much harder. But as soon as it was evident Hogan could not be 100% invested in the MFC, then he had to be traded. Goody would have seen to that.

I don't believe Goody will want a player on his list next season that isn't 100% committed to the long term Demon cause. Nor should he. For that reason, i believe a deal will be done for Jesse next week.As much as I love Jesse as a player, he now has to go.

This thread is now getting deep.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
I was from the camp that said we shouldn't be trading Hogan unless he wanted to leave. Well it seems he wanted to leave. And to me, given Freo's back peddle, i think this is now a major problem for us. If i was a player at Melbourne, i would not want to be going into battle with someone who no longer wants to be there. And if I were our coach, I'd be telling management to get him out of the club. For this reason i don't think our management are at all happy with Freo.

Ethan, what has given you this though?

Farewell Jesse Hogan
As we appear to be going round in circles, I’d like to ask a more pressing question. At what point in time would it be tactful to delete Jesse from our DL banner and who do we replace him with? Not sure when, but my vote would be Gus.

Andrew Gaff
Yep you are correct. But if you want facts here rather than opinions, then here’s one: Gaff committed an act of undisciplined thuggery. Bugg lost me when he flipped, so too has Gaff.

I’m in the minority but I’d prefer us not to chase Gaff. IMO he is damaged goods. WC won a premiership without him. So can we

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Interesting to note that this thread started in mid July when some pseudo jurno had the audacity to write that he thought Hogan would be gone at the end of the year. Our members jumped all over him - typified by this comment by our DL Administrator: “This isn't even a rumour. It is an unfounded and uninformed opinion from an irrelevant ex-footballer.” Did he really know something back then, or was he just shooting the breeze?

So sorry to see Jesse go. But unlike one particular poster I wish him every success in the West.

Farewell Jesse Hogan
Trying to make sense out of all this discussion, I only see a couple of reasonable scenarios: 1. If another club offers big money to Jesse: If so, and he wants to leave, then we get as much as we can for him. If he wants to stay, we negotiate a new contract for him now. 2. If no offer forthcoming, we keep him - no way we sell him IMO. We certainly don't go pawning him off. Everything else at this stage is just wild speculation. Let it play out.
