Nah...' @Mach5' mail is usually pretty good...

    He doesn't play that game.

If he can't say more then that's fair enough by me.

You lose a good source if you burn them.

We get some great info on here if you know who to look for and on what subjects.

This is not your ordinary trade period, this is one we will definitely all look back on in years to come.

In my view when negotiating, when you are the seller and buyer wants what you have, you ask for as much as you would like to get and negotiate down to what you will accept.

Therefore I would ask for 2 early first rounders and Brayshaw.

We have what they really, really want.

  3. I hope Freo are prepared and are coming to terms with losing a young player of some calibre.

Whether it be Cerra or Brayshaw, they know they are trying to prize away something that doesnt grow on trees, something they have been trying to get into their club for years.

Going on other trades in recent years 2 first round draft picks are the norm, but we are talking about a player who plays in the toughest position on the field, not a Defender or midfielder.

We must remember the player in question is just entering his peak 24 y.o, still under contract, this trade should and will set the club up for the next 10-15 years.

The club have not disappointed come draft time in recent years, i hope the trend continues.

Not Melbourne related but with McGovern nominating Carlton as the preferred destination how on earth are they even entertaining the idea of getting Sheil? Surely they will be tapped out of picks with McGovern to satisfy anything that GWS want. Also why are players even thinking of going to that rabble???

    Cash.

Blues will not trade Pick 1.

They will get Mitch McG,  by trading their 2 pre draft state league picks to the Crows,  who would use them on Grigg and McAdam.

AFL therefore has given Mitch to the Blues for free, to help them.

I keep hearing those 2 pre draft state league pick aren't tradeable? Wasn't Grigg on the Crows list previously?

There was talk of Freo swapping pick 4 if Neale is traded, or 5 for picks 9 and 10, I think with Port.

If we trade Jesse for say 4 and 5 why cant we do that trade. We then would have 5 , 9 and 10. We could use 10 in a trade and have 5 and 9 in the draft to take top end talent.

You could then end up with 3 players for Jesse.

    He's on fire.

    Ridiculous.

You value him less than Lever, Gibbs at 29 and Wingard. First two were 2 first rounders and Wingard is being placed in the same category, a hot and cold flanker.

Couldn't agree any more with you Redleg. Why do people undervalue our players on this forum?

This is one rumour i rekon u can tell is true from the outer.

We have an abundance of inside mids and lack skills.

Good luck to Dom either eay

I've just got this feeling that there is going to be trades and picks flying around left, right and center at the Dees.

    Exactly right LH.

There was an excellent article about Taylor a few weeks back and he basically said we are deal makers. We get deals done and those deals specifically focus on a need. We are a good trade to deal with and don't look to 'bend other clubs over' as so many seem to fret about on DL every trade period. We play the long game now. And all power to the draft and trading team.

As I have said  every year that i have posted on DL at this time of year i have little interest in the machinations of the draft, particularly the byzantine swapping of picks of horse trading. Pre - Jackson i worried about our acumen when trading (and drafting for that matter), but i have complete faith now.

Don't get me wrong i understand why people enjoy discussing the permutations and all power to them. I do however get frustrated by:

    • the frequent nashing of teeth over fears of being ripped off
    • criticisms of MFC not playing 'hard ball' often enough
    • bemoaning the picks we are asking for (we want 16 first rounders!)
    • claims we are always paying 'overs'
    • over wrought concerns about how much coin we are paying (or length of contracts)

Go back and look at some of the discussion around bringing elk to the club for examples of all of the above.

On Hogan i'm spewing it looks like he is going. In all likelihood we will not come out in front of any deal as he is generational player . In my view our best forward since the Ox. I'm sure they would not trade if they had their druthers. But as i have said on a number of occasion sin this thread, of course if wants to leave then you do the best deal you can and make the best of bad situation. You certainly don't try and hold him to his contract.

On his choice i am amazed he would choose to go to freo and all but give up a chance of winning a flag for the next 5-6 years, maybe longer. And travel across the country every two weeks to boot. But as a good demons supporting mate said he understands better than most that life is short, is unlikely to go in the media and may well never be able to earn the sort of coin he could for the next 7-8 years.

I also dont worry about our Trade team, i know we have a great team who achieve great outcomes.

I had dinner with a friend last night who's brother is in the list management team at Freo.

He was adamant that Freo and Jesse had commercially already agreed to terms and all that was left was Melbourne and Freo to do the deal.

Judd's Grandma wasn't at this dinner by any chance?

  11. We need to service our needs like we did in the Lever trade, needed a intecept defensive player so we went out and got one.

I'd take Kelly over Whitfield but both the type of player we need, that would be a cherry on top type outcome.

Shiel wouldn't be servicing an immediate need like Lever, just stockpiling a need we already have.

    Not quite.

He's not qualified to be a free agent based on a service, if Melbourne were to delist him then yes he would become a free agent and go wherever he wants.

If Melbourne have offered him a contract which it seems most likely seen as he wasn't delisted, then a trade must be completed for him to move.

If no trade can be completed then he can nominate for either the national or pre-season draft where anyone can pick him with their pick.

The club rates him, but he must have been told no midfield minutes are available, only see him as a small forward.

I can understand the sentiment but you need to consider what we offer vs the Saints.

He can refuse a one year or a one plus one deal from us (would you offer more) and stand out thus allowing himself to be picked up by the Saints in the second draft (whatever it's called these days). No one is likely to poach him.

This is one where we can and need to be generous just like Freo were with us and Balic last year.

Hey Jimbo, I see where your coming from but in all fairness you couldn't possibly compare Balic's situation to Kent's

It might end up being that way tho.
