  1. He played a 'muscle' game and barked continuous coaching tips and demands at the Carlton teammates.
  2. Following Kent so closely, I was so happy that he got that one. I was also overjoyed before the kick that the ball was in his hands to deliver the subsequent goal. I was also very sad that he struggled with injuries and played fewer games than he should have played. To my inconsistent eye, Kent was the modern day lookalike and epitome in style of the very great Hassa Mann. Shame about the tough breaks injuries cause ...
  3. Is that frontal, cranial dimension difference significant?
  4. Partially with you on this, but it is not referring to '...intelligence...' so much but moreso, footy ' clevers ' that assist a higher frequency and quality of gameplay opportunities. Then again, I can recall some super minds that used these aptitudes to make consistently good decisions onfield: Mike Fitzpatrick, Brent Crosswell, Allen Aylett, Beazley, Parkin, .... .... ....
  5. Yes, thanks rjay, that is the thematic that I was attempting to impart.
  6. That footy IQ improvement would be a wondrous thing, given the great team that we have now. It really lends itself to a staggering improvement across the field in teamplay and anticipation - both giving good despatches of the ball and getting to where the ball is received.
  7. Rather than being a 'pack crusher', I would like him to take those grabs that lead to scores and related crumbing pathways for his teammates. However, certain players can achieve a 'right of passage' in tight situations if they possess that mongrel factor - almost being too confronting to be regularly tackled or intercepted in the 'course of his game of football'. He has attributes that may (no pun intended) reduce the likelihood of that gross interference from opposition players that the Dees' forwards have experienced in recent years - such as holding and double-teaming with physical restraint - as occurred with Hoges, a younger Weed and each week, Melksham. Forget the BS from disgruntled NthMelb supporters, the big fella is not slow; instead, he is agile, mobile and virile. He also takes a good grab of the ball and is near-impossible to bump out of the way at the fall of the ball which he reads really well. Lotsa promise for us....
  8. It is concerning that he is absent from full training - although over time he has had his issues - and although there is still plenty of pre-season time to have him ready for the coming season it is a concern that he may be behind his peers in that readiness for hard training that will be required. This young fella is shaping (based on his returns to play last season) up to be a considerable star for the MFC and possibly, exhibit a whole new dimension to his game and that of the team; a key focus for all supporter interests in what is really just around the corner, provided that readiness is uninterrupted.
  9. Just love the entertaining banter that seems to be developing between the players with Pruesse - particularly with Maxxy - and with DL advocates about his promising presence at the Club. Superb support for this potentially great young player at the MFC. He is already moving into legendary status, without even having a kick on game day! Golly, North must be pithed.
  10. Remember that year ... Robbie displaying his wares to a gob-smacked Southern Stand at all levels - particularly Reserves - and all predicting just when he would debut into the Firsts. This skinny kid with blindingly acute skills in all aspects of the game.
  11. Possibly agree about fit, for these current (very current) times about Pedo's role. However, I loved the way he played footy, could recover and perhaps win games for us, would protect the smalls and take those inspirational marks at unexpected moments which nearly always benefited the team, the teammates about him and the scoreline. Very sadly, he missed - at the selection table - many, many games as a scapegoat player in the eyes of the FD, mostly unjustified. His versatility in several roles was immediately missed as a result. He was such a good Clubman for the MFC that he held no apparent grudges for this treatment; always there, encouraging more youthful players and selected teams returning to the Clubrooms at half-time, during the half-time break and after the game. Always a face of positivism for the MFC and an excellent team presence demeanour.
  12. Any goal is absolutely impressive - there were many that were pure class. Nice to have to select the 'best' from so many. We are going places here at the MFC.
  13. We must also remember that the Gawn and Pruesse tag-team is one hellava lot better than that of the WC Lycett and Vardy combination so imagine how those MFC two are going to lift the games and possessions of the likes of our other great players who feed off them and also, go in to get their own ball on most occasions! Then we have the Weed and Bradtke, and TMac as alternators to such set-ups.
  14. Cheap product, advertising revenues at the maximum rate, it gets worse and worse for the footy enthusiast...
  15. Smells that way, SWYL.....
  16. Hell of a footballer, Tony Sullivan.
  17. Depends, really, on the measured criteria of 'successful' and to whom that is relevant. Certainly, the public and supporters will be the last consideration.
  18. Just had to be a catch of some description, given the influence of TV rights over the AFL seniors and tendencies for kickbacks.
  19. If he wants to play football, he'd better go to Casey more regularly. I see him being more use to the MFC as a FD coach.
  20. I think we are all tearful for poor old Essendrug, these two very sad losses to their line-up have won us games over the past couple of years and there is a strong likelihood of them both regularly excelling from now on for the MFC thanks to our 'muscle' recruiting wins for 2019. Carna Dees!
  21. Looks physically well-developed; nice look of 'far cough' in his eye with the ball in his hands. Could be a forcefully reliable asset.
  22. There is an undertone of intended mongrel in what you say, DV8 and I really like it; it has been overtly missing from the Dees' players since Ray Biffen's time - and he played at full back where its impact was less influential across the board. Viney has tried with great success (eg: Selwood is the best example of that outcome) but is still a little bloke relative to Preusse; and Biffen, whilst shorter than most fullbacks, knew how to throw it around as a toothless marauder. I would hope that the big 'P' can dominate many marking opportunities - he seems to have great judgement on the fall of the ball as is a rock of Gibraltar to move 'outta that territory, no matter who hits him and how. He might well create a tap pathway and body slam corridor for our smalls - this seems to also be one of his traits and when taking and delivering in the crush, he is not intercepted too often by opponents, for some strange reason (?) so your theory on the '...missing link...' is most likely to be realised. Hell, this is going to be an exciting baptism of fire, this approaching 2019 season, and one in which May, Hibberd, Tracca, Harmes, Viney and Preusse can impact, literally, the grittiness of the game we all love.
  23. Essential stuff, Mr Vagg, well nailed. That is going to be his big asset, at FFwd and then, back-up to Maxxy. The Weed can ruck on the fwd line, as can Gawny. Rotation, rotation: Gawn, Weed, Preusse/
  24. Ruthless effort and control of games ... we are going to get there!
