most certainly a definite tautological statement, that reiterates itself.

our defenders or other team defenders? - rather than marking uncontested - ours are quite skilled at the mulitpronged medusa fist, which whilst spectacular as you never quite know whats going to happen next, it is a little problematic as it leaves no-one on the ground...
  4. whilst people are potting umpires... does anyone actually RATE any of the umpiring fraternity, and if so who and why?
  5. Sometimes, you don't know what you don't know. I can appreciate from the outside they're the only reasonable options that you can come up with to make sense of it. All players from all clubs, receive a range of guidance to plug certain gaps at certain times... and none of it speaks to the reasons above.

Intersting language in this article http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2018-04-09/spargo-faces-one-game-ban MELBOURNE youngster Charlie Spargo's bid to make his AFL debut this season has been delayed by at least one week after he was offered a one-game ban for striking in the VFL on Sunday. Is he good to go? Also, mod's please merge this with the Welcome Charle Spargo thread - tried search button numerous times, even filtering by Topic to bring up purely Spargo topics... no avail and kept timing out, wouldnt let me check any other pages etc ...quite annoying actually.
  7. my favourite theme music when the review happens
  8. Steve... all teams lapse, throughout each game. For me, its like arguing that you shouldnt have fatigue - its a part of the game...andwe treat it as normal, but lapses *ahem* should be problematic and a sign of a weak team, I really disagree strongly on this point. The competition has evolved so much, that all teams will get run on's somewhere, in a game. It'll be a rare day that a team doesn't get more than 2 goals in a row against the opposition. Just looked at rnd 3- (and cannot be shagged looking at the others) to support my evidence Collingwood 'lapsed and gave the first 3 goals up - then Carlton 'lapsed' completely for the rest of the game Brisbane and Power - 3 a piece Gold Coast 4 - Freo 3 North - 4 -Melb 4 GWS - 7 Sydney - 3 Adelaide - 2 - St Kilda 5 Hawthorn 4 - Richmond 3 Essendon 5 - WB 3 Geelong - 6 - WCE - 6 I think @Skuit has a good post happening re: sheer weight of numbers of entries into 50's and where we sit with that, to make sense of it. I would assume (and know for certain at another club, that they expect a team to kick multiple goals)- that Goodwin and the FD factor this in, hence the game plan that @skuit has alluding to in his stats thread... Personally, I have challenged my own expectation since - coaching panels factor this likely occurrence into their planning, and its made my experience as a support less disheartening and less frustrating. In a more succinct way... we are not a [censored] team if we get multiple goals kicked against us - however we are, if it happens multiple times.

Really nice analysis for a quantitative perspective - and I hope you're right with the last paragraph and that the 'stats will hold'.
  10. 1. The relief and surprise, that Kent and Bugg, can display great work ethic for 4 quarters (see Kent's contested work to set up Clarry's goal) and also have accurate kicking 2. Similarly, Hogan's work rate this year has been immense, he is more selfless and that helps the forward line function and be less one dimensional 3. Jeff Garlett... sublime and will knock off Eddie for AA.
  11. On that, we know Weideman steps up against the Hawks...
  12. Plenty of teams win GRAND finals with average players - lookin' at you Mitch Morton, Nathan Ablett, Dion Prestia
  13. I know I'm not contributing anything meaningful here, but just by judging the AFL LADDER - we are kings of the victorian clubs at the moment...
  14. loving your forensic analysis of the vision @Clint Bizkit - stoking my fires of outrage and vitriol next time im at the 'g'.
  15. just riffing on a narrative from previous posters... hence the eye roll
  16. he's got an attitude problem...
  17. Can anyone let me know if Goodies presser mentions the umpiring...surely there will be a few please explain letters during the week..
  18. In case anyone forgot, he's playing right now...
  19. Where on earth are you pulling that one from? Also, the brains trust now is far different from previous one.... I appreciate the cynicism, and this is a comment that makes no sense.
  20. I always hope for a Buckley loss...remember the time he wiped blood on Ling... unforgivable
  21. The capacity for clubs to get caught up in sales pitches from folk who promote things that are not evidence based (or driven by someone who is not operating from an evidence base) in the name of getting 'an edge' - astounds me - as its at the expense of duty of care. It also astounds me that they don't do their due diligence, or do and go ahead with these things anyway. Reap what you sow...
  22. I think the issue is less with Lever - and more with opposition coaches isolating him - and therefore the coaching staff of Melbourne being about to work through the tactical challenges of the isolation and getting him back to the 3rd man up role. Kinda like, don't shoot the messenger - he's doing his role, and perhaps Goodwin et al could give the bloke a chop out. He's not here to mind Gorilla's, yet has been isolated in round 1 (granted Esava was a first gamer... but can seriously play). He'll be worth the coin.. and just like every 10 years, we look back a go - [censored] me, that wasn't actually a lot of money compared to now... kinda like houses on the coast
  23. AND Like Schrodingers Cat - he is both dead and alive (to Melbourne Supporters)
  24. It's great the games are tight this year... anyway back to JW... Hinkley and co - knows Jack does very few contested things... he wasn't brought in for that (although that clearly matters to Goodwin) - Watts is there for the spine (as someone pointed out yesterday) and also for the silk - which he has always had... he'll be a good fit for them... its irrelevant what anyone in the football public think of Jack and his softness (rightly or wrongly) - he is not there as a power forward and he is not a 'bull' - he is someone who they got to jag goals and help on the spread...heaven knows the Dee's need a few outside runners now (where are you J Gysberts).
