WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HERITIER LUMUMBA
Wiseblood replied to Moonshadow's topic in Melbourne Demons
I agree - I think we might trade that pick down a little to the 26-28 region and then trade that for HL. Our third rounder will be out as I think that will be used on Stretch. -

I think it's a good move to chase him as a direct replacement for Chip. Clearly the club weren't too pleased with Georgiou's second half of the year and feel we need further re-inforcements, which is fine by me. -

And you'll get that regularly from HL. No idea why there are posters having a crack at his kicking - at least he doesn't turn it over with bad, sideways kicks or missing a target ahead from 20m away. He isn't Nick Malceski, but is clearly better than anything else we have to offer coming off half back right now. -

I tell you what I would rather - Lumumba running 20 and kicking it 50 to a contest than Grimes or Terlich chipping it sideways and missing targets in dangerous positions. -
Wasn't having a crack at his claim. You might have read the thread but you don't read the posts all that closely. Was having a go at his attitude towards something he knows nothing about. If he posts the claim, which of course he has every right to do, then that's all well and good. But the rest isn't required.

Thought so. I guess that doesn't mean you can't stop making wild and general statements about a bloke you know nothing about though, does it? Just because you know someone who handled their depression in a certain way doesn't mean Clark will do the same. Everyone handles every situation in life differently. This is no different. To be so dismissive of Clark and what he needs is short sighted and ignorant at best. I'm not denying your mates claim, although that can be added to the long list of everything else that's been brought up as part of the speculation, and I am not all that happy with the way Clark has handled things, but that doesn't mean you can have a crack at his depression when you know zero facts about it.

You're a doctor, yes?

His partner must be the forgiving type then as they are very much still together. Doesn't mean it didn't happen, just making the observation.
-
How so? Doesn't that mean they would be totally surprised if he left, suggesting right now they don't believe he wants out?

I'd love to see his overall stats in terms of kicking efficiency. Reckon his kicking is underrated. Agree with everything else too. Would make us much, much better in so many ways. -
I was reading that before - nothing surprising about their answer. I can see the Crows being stubborn and backing themselves in to keep him.... but there would have to be that nagging doubt in the back of their mind after losing 5-6 key players in the last few years for not much in return. Unless Danger says he wants out, which will mean the Crows get compensated, then I don't think he'll go anywhere.
-
And you might be right - If we gave them both those picks but got Danger and pick 10 in return then I think that would be a good deal, although I don't think the Crows would do that one. Plus we might need to pay overs to get him now, rather than baulk at it and let him go into free agency next year where he could literally go anywhere. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out over the next few weeks.

I see what you're saying here, and anyone would be a little skittish about trading picks 2 and 3 for one player. I get that. But Dangerfield isn't just any 'player'. He is a tough, line breaking, game changing midfielder who would instantly improve us out of sight. He can rest forward as well and kick goals and he is well known for his commitment to training and leadership around the club. Guys like him don't come around all that often. The core of our midfield group looking ahead would be Danger, Jones, Tyson, Viney and Vince. Most teams have that core of very, very good mids and then the rest are foot soldiers who play their role. Toumpas, Salem, Watts, Stretch (if we get him), Lumumba can play on a wing etc. We would hope guys like Kent can also push into the midfield and we can always deal for other players as well. I'm even sure I've forgotten other guys who we have on the list too. If Danger wants to leave then we have the opportunity to change the outlook for our club. No more hoping we get a gun - we will have one. That simply can't be ignored, and if it takes those picks, then so be it. Petracca looks certain to go to the Saints anyway, which would leave us with possibly Brayshaw and.... ? I know which option I'd rather.
-
He didn't give much away - just that we made an inquiry and that, if he was interested, we are best placed to put a deal together. Glad we are inquiring about it but not excited yet.

I want him at the club... -
Overrated players we must not entertain during trade week

Breust and Duncan are overrated? Yeah, right. -
Jay Clark just confirmed on Twitter that O'Rourke has requested a trade from the club. GWS want a first rounder in return. Thoughts?

Won't get him. Next.

We have a small amount of bargaining power IF he nominates a club like Geelong - we can keep him on our list all through the trade period and then delist him, meaning he heads to the draft and some uncertainty. It's not alot but it's something. The calls for getting their first rounder or Christensen in the trade are ludicrous though. Clark is a speculative pick up for them, at best. If he was still in his prime and hadn't missed 3 years of footy then we could rightly ask for something good, otherwise I'm happy for the club to get something useful for him and move on. For us at the moment it's better than nothing and playing 'hard ball' for the sake of it.

Great points mate. Ryder has already nominated PA so it's not as if someone else will trump them sometime during trade week. Brisbane, the only club who might, are focused solely on Beams now (and rightly so), so if Port holds their nerve they'll get it done for the pieces you mentioned... or it gets very, very messy.

Interested to see what players people think would equate to an even trade. No doubt the Bombers will be asking for Ollie Wines which is utterly ridiculous. Maybe they could go with John Butcher and Andrew Moore for Ryder? Bomber fans would scoff at that I'm sure but I can't see what else they would readily give up for him.

This. That article is nothing more than speculation - I don't believe for a second the Lions would even come close to trading someone of Hanley's ability.

If anyone ever mentions the Liston and how they believe a certain player will be a gun based on winning it, I always reply: "Paul Johnson won a Liston trophy." The conversation doesn't go much further after that.

Not really, but whatever floats your boat.
