Delistings/trades at end of the season
Even though he has been horrible tonight I still think Leuenberger would be a handy get for the right place. Being played as a stay at home forward, which is not his role, and with Stef Martin dominating he might be gettable.

This. I would rather pry loose a good young player than get a pick for Howe. If we can add a handy 20-22 year old to our core then I'd be happy with that.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
Apparently Aaron Black is disgruntled at the Roos and may request a trade back to Freo - if he was looking for more game time is he worth a look as a 3rd forward type for us? Maybe we try and convince him to come over with the promise of more game time... or is he just another guy like Dawes who shows a bit in the shop window without there being much behind it?

I'd even argue Brayshaw is well on his way to being an A grade player for us as well. Lots to like about these kids.

Delistings/trades at end of the season
We need to be careful at the end of the season. With star players re-signing and the few others left signalling intentions to stay or play somewhere that isn't Melbourne we need to evaluate what's left and whether it will be worth it. There will be some young players floating around who might be worth a look, particularly at GWS and Gold Coast. Their star players won't come but there are still come quality players up there who are either not getting a run, out of form or have struggled with injuries who would be well worth a look for the right price. I'm sure if we shake the tree hard enough something decent will fall out. But I agree with the others also that our top priority should be to hold on to the good young kids we already have and that we draft shrewdly again as well. If we look at how we did last year then Brayshaw and Vanders look to be great players for our future, Stretch and ANB are progressing well even if they are still a little green and, once fit, Petracca should slot in nicely. If we can draft 5 worthwhile players and nab a decent free agent or two then we will be looking good.

Could we potentially get involved in this one though? If the Pies want two Top 10 picks could we get one of their mids for one of our picks? Possibly someone like Jack Redden? Probably won't happen if our interest in Danger comes to fruition, but I hope the club is keep an eye on things.

The Collingwood empire isn't what it was. Almost unfathomable that they would lose someone of Beams' calibre a few years ago. Must admit it's great to see. This is going to be one of the most interesting trade periods we've had for a while.

I think he has recently said how much he regretted going back to WA. I was shattered when he left. He still has the silky skills too, still a joy to watch!

The draft comparison is not valid. Look at the failures many clubs have made in the draft over the last 5-7 years when it comes to Top 20 picks. I'd like to make it clear that I wouldn't be completely happy giving up Pick 13 for Caddy and, like I've mentioned (but it's been ignored as everyone is now narrow minded on the fact that "OMG we can't take Caddy at #13 he's done nothing" train of thought) there could be other aspects to a deal before it's even done. We could trade Pick 13 for a player and Pick 17 for example and so forth until we had the pick we thought was fair... if, as reported, we have some interest.

And we all know how important a B&F finish is. Just ask Tom Scully. If we can do better then name them. I agree that we need to make sure the price is right, but in the end there isn't much the Suns can do. Caddy is out of contract and they will need to take something.

There are just as many players over the years who have been flops as well as guns within the Top 10, so it's not better to assume at all. If the price is right, and only if it's right, we should take him. Your belief that taking a punt on a player this year is flawed.

Clubs would have coughed up more but he wanted out, only wanted Collingwood and they let him walk, knowing that he would end up there. Entirely different scenario. The Pies didn't need to offer anything. Caddy has proven he can play at the highest level. He hasn't been outstanding or set the world alight but he has shown he can do it. He has proven that. And those other talented kids haven't proven they will be better than him either. IF the club wants him then they will offer what they believe is appropriate. If the Suns don't like it then they can trade him elsewhere. Pick 13 is the mark that most believe the club will offer if they want him, whether we like it or not. But then we might trade down a little with that pick to claim somebody else and then shoot that pick to the Suns for Caddy or whatever. There is alot of water to go under the bridge before any deal is done.

But then the same thing could have been said two years ago - "Why all the love for player X? I'd rather go for Caddy, loved his videos, he looks the goods, make him a Demon!!" None of the above players would be certainties to make it. No-one ever is really. I'd rather take a kid with two years in the system (for the right price) than gambling on another young kid. Caddy hasn't set the world alight, you are right on that, but everyone knows he has some serious footballing talent. He just needs the right club to bring it out.

Read a very small article on Caddy in the HUN today - on the back page of the sport in the Stevo and Ralphy section. They mention that Vic clubs are having a hard time deciphering what he is worth on the open market, taking into account his B&F finish and his 3 possession game, as well as his 15 goals and 334 possessions for the season and his exceptional character. They then say that Geelong are leading the race at this stage from us, and that the Suns have no interest at all in what Essendon would have to offer. Now take it how you will - not saying we will or won't get him and there is no mention of what the club would offer. Just thought it was something a little interesting and that it sounds as though we are very much interested, and in the race, to potentially secure his services for next season.

I don't think that matters too much right now. The Bombers are the obvious choice for a destination right now as they were very keen last year, and then there are the other clubs that seem to be in the market for another midfielder. Geelong have been linked to Boak and Gysberts, two midfielders, and the Saints could use a young midfielder with Lenny on his last legs. I have no doubt that we will at least enquire and see where we sit in terms of his interest and what the Suns are after. I'm assuming we do that though, and I'd be disappointed if we didn't at least have a crack at a handy young midfielder who would be a terrific pick up.

Josh Caddy
True. They might have interest in Spencer as a second ruckman to Smith and if Pick 13 and Spencer got the deal done I wouldn't be disappointed with that. That pick could then go with another first rounder of some sort for Tippett IF he decides he wants to head home.

Wouldn't mind the club throwing Pick 13 their way, although if others like St. Kilda and Richmond are keen we would need to add a sweetener that the Suns actually want. Who that is I'm not sure... and no, Ricky Petterd because he is from QLD doesn't count in my book as I don't think the Suns would be that interested in him.
-
Josh Caddy
I'm in the same boat in terms of getting him, and I think he would probably cost too much to get. Let the Bombers throw the kitchen sink at him.

Josh Caddy
I wouldn't read TOO much into B&F results - Scully finished fourth in the GWS count which, as we all know, is completely wrong when looking at the season he had. Caddy can play.
