WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
Not at all, I just get sick of us going after second tier players and paying top price for them. I'm not sure what Hibberd is like but I don't see us fighting off competition and like Melksham I get the feeling that Essendon are not happy to lose him. We seem to continually go after players like Dawes, H, BenKen, Michie and Newton who are not quite good enough. Which of the players that we've drafted, apart from Tyson and Frosty, over the last 5 years have been regular players? There are others that have simply been horrendous, like Byrnes, Gillies, Terlich etc. that are either gone or are about to go. We don't do well on scraps and that's all we seem to want.

So we don't have a first round pick and we are going to trade our second round pick as well, wonderful. Or are we trading a player for a second round pick? Whatever, we always seem to get shafted, we don't fight hard enough and seem happy to pick up GWS scraps.

Well I doubt that that would be Prestia or Mitchell.

As I said before, why does everyone want to trade Salem, he was good yesterday in his first game back, with little preparation and will be a very good player for us. It never ceases to amaze when we are asking to trade a really good player for one who may not be as good let alone better. We don't need some reasonable ball getters we need a game breaker, a player who can pull us over the line, a Dangerfield or similar, we don't need a Mitchell or Prestia, they are ok but not what we need. If we pick one of them up along the way, ok. but that's not what we need. We've got a good base but need a top line player to seal the deal. Who knows, Hogan may become our Roo and turn games for us, he may become the player that can save a game and win a game, if Jack Watts had a bit more presence he may very well have been that player. Ball gatherers like Prestia are ok but will they stand up in a final, will his body stand up for a few seasons without breaking down. Will Tracc be our Pavlich or Dangerfield, will he break away from the pack time after time and slot the ball on to Hogan/Weeds chest, only time will tell.

We need a player like Fyfe and Roos almost said as much when he said we need someone to take the game on and turn it round for us, or words like that. We got destroyed yesterday by Dangerfield and then Selwood, we had no answer to their dominance and Danger treated our tackles with contempt. Maybe Tracc will be our Dangerfield and Viney will be our Selwood, I'm not convinced about that.

Heard part of his interview this morning and he said he will explore every opportunity and option, that appears to me as if he is over it ar Freo and is prepared to move. Bernie is a died in the wool SA boy and has said he will go back there when he's finished football, but it didn't stop him from coming to Melbourne. He's what, 25, enough time to come here play a few years then go home, he seems like a fairly intelligent guy so I'm sure he won't be home sick and probably wouldn't want to play for the Eagles, that might be a bit difficult in a 2 team town.

Simon Goodwin - coach in waiting...
Heard that and it would be good to see Roosy coach the Academy kids if at all possible. Also at a function recently, PJ said that when he retires from his position at Melbourne, he will be a life long Member and Supporter of the Melbourne Football Club and will be at the games only on the other side of the glass.

AFL need to look into Rhys Mathieson!
The best way to stop this is for the coaches to tell their players they will be dropped if they continue to do this, they have control over the players and their actions. The umpires have a split second to evaluate what happened and will always err on the side of caution.

The Incredible Hulk - Jesse Hogan
Not sure if this has been mentioned at all after your post, because I'm catching up with the thread, but this will give Jesse a sample of the rigours of playing with a WA side. There is a lot of travel involved and after travelling to Qld. last game he's travelled across country to see his folks, wonder how he feels now and if he'd be happy to do it every second week.
