Also some of the best going around have sat next to him in Jennings, McCartney and Rawlings, then throw in the experience of Richardson who may not have made a senior coach but highly regarded assistant. This is a big problem, Goodwin has no idea and he doesn’t want to be told either imo

What was our excuse early in the year? Not an issue before the last two games when we were 4 from 5? We ran out both games well. The issue is when sides come with a plan, Goodwin has no idea how to fix it. Even Trac said we struggled to cope last two games when sides dropped a spare man back. It beggars belief. Not having a go at you mate, I’m just not copping the travel excuse, it was all there to see early in the season also.

Punishing? Before the last two embarrassing losses we’d won 4 out of 5? Albeit lowly teams in there but ran games out well and even in the last two losses we finished with plenty of energy, even Trac says it’s not even an issue. What was our excuse early in the year when we were playing the same? I think we are quite undisciplined but that doesn’t excuse no structure and not turning up, which is a common theme for years. Travel excuse is a way for them to get an out, but there’s deeper issues that have been lingering for a long time.

The more I think of all of this, not that expected Pert to say anything, he and Goodwin are totally spin masters and I’m less confident than ever. Pert lost me earlier on and Goodwin well before that. Supporters are being spun total rubbish to cover up

Would we go to the AFL for assistance outside/inside of the soft cap? ANd would the AFL provide it? Also there must be clauses in the contract, doubt we'd have to pay him 2 x $500,000 like suggested. Maybe 50% of that on mutual agreement? Who knows.

So we've had 3 more days break and 1 less day of travel v opponents? Not so bad afterall eh. Also, 3 x 4day breaks for us vs 4 for our opponents. No excuse! Plus 2 of the opponents 4 day breaks have been when we've had 6.

I'd like to think that our President, if and when approached, would answer tough questions and not run for the hills though.

How many years had Fagan done his apprenticeship for? I think young coaches get thrown in too quickly these days perhaps? There's really no way Simon couldve kept/overhauled our club culture as well as coach and develop, in that regard, I feel sorry for him.

We had won 4 out of the last 5 so we were in form. However I don't think we had been playing as well as people think, but found a way to win. I do get what you're saying and it's totally fair. But we have also ran out the last two games quite well physically, so I don't buy into the fatigue factor as much. We definitely lack confidence, I personally think this comes from the top (Goodwin). Anyway, we were still playing terribly early in the season without travel, so my lack of confidence in Simon stands. Thanks for proving facts and info, appreciated by all.

That makes me miss playing footy Pates, those were the days, too fat and slow now. I agree the 8 rewards mediocrity, but if they didn't have that middle bunch vying for a spot there'd be so many one-sided games in the last part of the season. I'm also not a fan of a wildcard either. I do wonder if these hub set ups will get the AFL thinking of a two tier comp or a conference style set up going forward, may never happen but it makes me wonder sometimes, how or if it would even work, people who watch US sports may be better to comment.

Only slightly worse than Geelong who are flying and Sydney are playing better towards the end of this season, understand your point but interstate clubs do this every second week normally, West Coast go ok as do Brisbane and Port. Cairns is a 2hr flight and it is our choice to play in Alice Springs for financial reasons. I can understand if we were getting fatigued towards end of games, but that certainly hasn't been a factor in the last two games, we just don't turn up, with any sort of plan and lack effort, that's inexcusable.

Yeah agree, first I’ve heard of that one, people in my circles say Goodwin put both McCartney and Jennings’ noses out of joint.

By definition yes mate, but with our own eyes, no. Also great work on the fixture thread, our draw is marginally only slightly worse than Geelongs, what are your thoughts on that? We’ve definitely been given a tougher run but we usually travel well. Good info thanks

Haha yeah GWS loses and all of sudden Goodwin can coach again, gotta laugh! anything is possible I suppose.

That's my point. Easier to recover. Besides I'm not making excuses for the club. Our form early in the season didn't set the world on fire either.
