Hard to see impact of 6 6 6 rule, though Maxy did get the ball to his mids cleanly a few times.

But this game really reinforced my belief that the biggest impact will be the changes to the kick out rules.

Having the man of the mark 9 metres from the top of the square and not having to kick the ball in the air almost makes the square redundant.

it really opens up the field and will make clear the back 50 much easier. At one point Jetts took the kick in, played on and ran diagonally towards the boundary. Gus (i think) put small block on the man on the mark , Jetts ran his full measure and by the time he kicked it was probably all of 30 metres from the goal line. His kick to the wing was pretty much halfway up the ground.

I think we will have big advantage with maxy because it means he won't have to push so far up the ground and will be in position to take a lot of marks on centre wing. With players running pat him we will get a lot of quick inside 50s. I can see Weids and TMac and Preuess all pushing up to centre wing at times to provide options.

The other impact - and one i hadn't considered - is that i reckon there will be way more play ons from kick ins, way more. This will create  a much faster transition game. Teams will also need to set up their presses across the center of the ground the widest point, so hard to trap the ball. I will be fascinated to see if more scoring chains start from kick ins. I am predicting there will.

Completely agree binman. Playon from kickouts will be huge this year and watching how teams take advantage of this and try to stop the playons will be fascinating.

I think it will definitely help us and any other super quick and fit teams.

Make sure you sit amongst a heap of Collingwood supporters.

One concern to me is that some players will milk the 50 meter penalty bizarre new rule to try to get double or even triple 50s.   It is far too open to gaming, and to maggotorial interpretations, andofferes far too great a penalty for what are often minor technical breaches  The 50 (as opposed to 10 or 15) is already too harsh for many minor infractions

The 666 set up will put huge emphasis on wingmen having sharp sprinting ability. Could be a savior for the somewhat out of favor Hunt.

That's a really good point. If the player receiving the 50 can fend the opposition player off and knock them over or behind them, then they've got a huge advantage to take off.

Only if Preuss can actually play the game

I think there are quite a few people on here getting carried away with a guy that didn't manage a game for a team that finished below us on the table and did not have one the best ruckman in the competition

Like everyone else I really hope he contributes meaningfully to the team and makes us better - however playing him alongside TMac and Weid in the same forward 50 looks too big and slow for mine and I cant see any prospect of him surpassing those guys as a first pick tall forward

Being big means nothing if you are not mobile enough and do not possess the skills and knowledge of the game

Definitely has some potential but the question is can he rise to the next level

It's an interesting question. You could see the forward line packed with talls working for West Coast last year.

Maybe we're trying to replicate that.

Should be interesting to see how we use them together.

  5. I heard Mick Malthouse on Abc grandstand late last year say the same sort of thing.

We win big matches and then take it too easy. He had a real dig at us saying we pat ourselves on the back too often.

I think we're definitely heading in the right direction but its a fair comment to make and question to ask.

The next level is for us to be ruthless 4 quarters every game every round.

For the Storm to keep performing year after year in what is a NRL backwater is a credit to them. You have to respect what Craig Bellamy has achieved. They have pretty much been the Lions of the early 2000s but maintained it

    Cam Smith is a star

Totally agree. They have been relentless. No rebuilds just high performing year after year.

They must have built a fantastic culture into their club.

I'm up in NSW and everyone hates them because they keep winning but everyone respects them.

We should be learning as much as we can from them.

Would love to have the same respect.

Bloody Hell. It’s near the end of a 2hr session. Frosty has gone down to a goal square in his own with a bag of balls. Wondered what he’s doing. He’s kicking torps that are almost hitting the bloody cross in the centre circle. One went off the side of his boot. We’ll call that the 2018 Prelim Finals kick. I’ll call the centre circle ones the 2019 GF kick.

With the new kick in rules,  I suspect Frosty will be kicking / running it in a lot for us from the goal square

If I'm not mistaken, Fritta has been near the front in many of the running drill pics that I've seen this pre season.  I don't remember that of him last year, and if he has added that string to his bow, he will be a weapon and a half on the wing.

Totally agree. A great first year playing out of his comfort zone down back.

Can't wait to see him wing or half forward. Reminds me so much of a Brad Greene

  9. Just trying to upgrade and renew my membership.

Trying to reset password.  The reset link / email takes 40 min to reach me by which time it has expired.

Tried ringing the club last two days. Over an hour wait time both times.

    Ticket master is pure pus

  10. With May rolling into the backline I'm looking forward to watching Fritsch hopefully going forward.

We seemed a bit one dimensional with Jesse playing.

Much more unpredictable with TMAC Weid Tracc and Gawn floating forward. I think Fritsch is a Brad Green in the making if they give him the chance up front.

No change to the goalsquare  but the man on the mark has to stand a further 5 metres back and the fullback can play on without kicking to himself.

Will be interesting - a sharp footed kicker in might lob one in the forward line. There will some new set plays developed over the summer

Exactly. Frosty will be bombing in more tops for sure I reckon

  12. Really thought I'd be ambivalent today but soon as the pies got ahead my hatred for them kicked in.

I really hoped they'd lose a close one and it all came true.

That eagles team song is an abomination.

Hope we get to sing a real song next year.

  13. Gotta look at the season as an overall positive although just 2013 dees like today.

Thanks to all those who've posted training and match reports etc throughout the year.

Being an interstate supporter I really appreciate everyone's contributions and general positivity and humour.

I've invested way too much time on this forum and it's time to catch some waves and some muddies.

Have a great Xmas and new year everyone.

Show em how it's done tomorrow Casey.

And f@#$k you both west coast and pies right in the eye.

Hope you both lose next week.....somehow.

    Go Dees

    Apparently according to MMM

I was listening to it on the radio and it’s what they said was happening.

Collingwood have been very impressive. Cox scares me. I just can’t see how we stop him. He destroyed us last time we played them too.
