I agree with what you write…but the NRL model works very well and has only 2 states. Obviously there are a range of other factors. Vic vs S.A. I suppose is the only one that would work but, even then, it wouldn't. Knockout competition could be fun but, really, unnecessary and potentially embarrassing.

Another bit summed it up for me, watching the replay - and actually Eddie Mcguire echoed my sentiment. Late in the last quarter in the back line ball in dispute, close game, Nathan comes steaming in dives in, wins the ball and handballs it out. Mcguire just explodes with "Jones again" - exactly what I thought, just the fact that he was there and in that position to win the ball - on top of everything else he'd already done.
