  1. An interesting development is in the AFL pipeline, which appears to have endorsement from all sixteen clubs "Either way, all have endorsed the idea of doing away with the farm system and of reclaiming or, in the cases of the South Australian and West Australian sides, gaining total control over the welfare and development of players from draft day onwards". A sensible strategy which, in time, should become a reality for the AFL. Shortcut to: http://www.realfooty.theage.com.au/realfoo...3166799460.html
  2. Everywhere just like the asian flu epidemic.....Softer thas the UN... ...and a horses head in the bed would be preferable over Chris Heffernan on any given day thanks.
  3. So, play a quality midfielder cum forward who continues to be a genuine goalkicker for us, down in the backline? You say a maximum of 2 of either Robertson, Davey or Yze with Neitz pushing up hard to the tip of the arc as the formula for a successful permiership side? Pardon, but without as yet an established CHF and the accepted theory that 4 + goalkickers are need to consistently kick goals every game, why in earth (for starters) would you shut Bruce out of our attacking game plan? Explain! Seems you have misunderstood Danihers reasons for doing it. It's not ingenuity. Its purely defensive and IMO negative. The Neil Balme award beckons! You're other misinterpretation is with the words depth & importance. Bizzell adds valuable depth to an otherwise shallow bowl of backline talent! Schools out!
  4. Granted 2 years would have been preferable. Old..who are you comparing him with & what are the alternatives. Of the almost talls the embarrasment of riches are Wheatley, CJ, Bell,Ward.Warnock doesn't rate. Bell simply struggles,Ward is Ward as is Wheatley is.....Chris J is the only true potential here. Furthermore, Bruce will more than likely rotate mid & forward.. Depth yes, but with the alternatives on offer, he's far from gone.
  5. Its relevant to note that Bizzell was out of the line-up for most of '04 with an achilles and a smashed cheekbone. Despite this he still played 14 or so games. Prior to this he has been a very reliable ( & at the time invaluable) player given what we had to work with. He has been cruelled by injury and subsequent poor form. The 2 tend to go together. Old, plaudits for another classic case of pure speculation and cliche spin, with a hint of bulldust for good measure. This will be his final year, and with a bit of luck on his side hope he can justify the 3 year deal the Mfc signed with him after '04.
  6. Agree Fan. From what I have seen this year coupled with what we know his contribution to the team can be when he is fit & confident, his relevance/ importance cannot be understated. To suggest otherwise is idiocy...from the usual suspects.
  7. Jaded, its no secret this this is a collaborative effort between the Vic Govt and 3 major sporting bodies (Rugby, Soccer& the Mfc), whereby the Vic Govt is the major shareholder, if you will. "A purpose built stadium for rugby and soccer codes, with other sports campus facilities for MELBOURNEfc and other bodies, fills a niche gap in the city’s sporting and entertainment infrastructure". It's hardly a surprise when there are a number of parties involved in a project of this size that there will be difference of opinion . It would be a mistake for the Vic Govt. to plough ahead with the original blueprints. Firm negotiation by Bracks is what is needed. Whilst we are disappointed, firm management is what is needed now! On another note, I applaud O'neill, Lowry et al for what has happened with soccer in this country. It has gone gone from being a second rate back yard management hash-up, leaking millions of dollars nationally, almost operating insolvent to now a recognised body which should break even in its second year, and attracting major dollars for this country. Your anger is sadly misguided and uninformed.
  8. I trust you must know how Neitz would feel should it happen.
  9. FWIW It'll never happen; put simply she is a Noah. Forget it..ignore it... An itch you can't scratch.
  10. Didn't you tell me that a small hole in a brick wall was rough, but you were pretty tough?
  11. Maybe the game could really take-off in China after all.
  12. When its all said & done Ellie, its easy to grandstand. For a pack of 'wusses' you describe the Irish, the Aussies overall lead on the tally sheet since the games inception is by one and one game only. Not bad for a bunch of ammos v professional athletes. The physicality shown by the Aussies is not foreign to us, as it is how we play our game. The Irish still struggle with that concept. But I doubt you'd even grasp that. Perhaps the Irish may be better served next series by having a current or former AFL coach assist hands on with the player preparation prior to its commencment. Not unlike the role Stynes fills for the Oz. I think David Tohill may be involved but there's no sub for current experience. They are still all amateurs & do a pretty good job when all is said & done. That said, the powers that be should scrap such a farce. Its folly for the juggins, just like Ed.
  13. RR,this is a separate issue. Glad it was brought up. To dig a little deeper on this issue on Sandy & MFC, the issue with the Melbourne's list is that it has depth & few injuries. Something new to us. The Melbourne players not picked for the weekend AFL match obviously go into the Sandy player pool? Who then decides who plays where? Who's call is it really?Williams? Would ND really want Sautner @ FF each week at the expense, for arguments sake, a Newton or Hughes. On this point,do they name the player with AFL experience ahead of a young draftee, the developing player who needs game time who was benched most of the time for Melbourne the week before,or the rookie who is showing promise? The problem is number of MFC players who can play with the Zebra 1sts each week. Its restricted. For the remaining players who arent chosen in the firsts, do they get the quality of football they need through the VFL reserves? Is this the Zebras problem? Theyre in the business of being successful. Why wouldnt they want Sautner @ FF every week. He kicks goals and is arguably one of the most consistent forwards in the comp. Besides, theyve had to take a step back in playing personnel for the association between the 2 clubs I would never suggest there is politics in sport. The association between the 2 clubs appears to have worked, but I believe it works to the detriment of ther development of Melbourne's playing list. No offence to Sandringham FC, but I am in favour of a complete rethink of club affiliations.
  14. Agree with you on this one RR. Pointless thread! Totally agree with your commentsTGM- this was a truly wonderful, selfless act of a mastermind sharing its inner thoughts. An anthill amongst the watchtowers of credibility.
  15. Grazman, its either in your blood or its not
  16. Burning CD's aside, I think I have made my thoughts on the Number 2 pretty clear. I am hoping that perhaps one day I may see another player in our colours who may come remotely close to his talents. However, I doubt it. Forget Hird & Voss. Nobody comes close! Superstar!!!
  17. I think that pretty much sums up this whole debate. Who ever said that if women didnt have, well, u know what i'm talking about, they should have a bounty on their heads. I for one give 'Betty S' a vote for this balanced view. And, cheers to Dalrot for ur help with my req!! Case dismissed!
  18. Please Dalrot!! But be careful mate...there is an old conservative prudish BIG M who cruises this topic who may crack his kegs in the closet with (what I may anticipate) an entertaining reply from her! He'll then pull it from public view (without consent or warning). Worth a punt though Cheers
  19. Oh and um, I am curious what Betty Spaghettis thoughts would be on this issue of world concern?
  20. In this proposed 'Brave New World', I wonder if Craig Kelly would have still gone the pinch?
  21. So.....who pulled my post regarding my thoughts on women playing rules & suggested attire? A tad conservative & prudish don't you think! Does any particular modertor who may have been resaponsible, come forward, show themselves & discusss? Perhaps just a glitch on the system? I for one would like to know. Moving on, I agree with Yze..a very pertinent point Magic and a pre-requisite for such a visual slant on the game
  22. Best wishes Mat with the Rangers - I hope that it works out well for you!! Some fine pedigree has come from there.
