  1. I'll just bring this thread back to Jason Taylor.

I must admit on 2015 draft night I was surprised when I didn't see Parish picked up then looked up Clayton Oliver's highlights package and specs. Was even more surprised to see a heavily built player but liked his contested possession highlights.

It's a credit to Taylor + recruiting team that they looked deeper into whether he had the mental strength to condition himself for AFL (he had done some work prior to draft night, which would have provided confidence) and an even bigger credit to Clarry for the work that he's done between then and now to get to where he is now. God only knows how good we'll be if he keeps working at the same rate.

I've just got a warm fuzzy feeling all over at the moment...

Nah, it'll take off. You watch David King. ;) #goodyfooty

I was looking at your hashtag and it reminded me of goody two shoes.

Maybe we need to send Alan Richardson some #goodytissues

    Who takes his place JMc?

I'd be happier with Frost in the backline over Oscar at the moment. I think Oscar has a long future in the backline, but needs to hone/perfect his craft at VFL level. I also think Frost is a better intercept/rebound defender.

Not sure how Frosty's toe is holding up at present.

Did you see Cripps last night ?  He was a shadow of his 2016 and that's because he's underdone.

This is where I place faith in the sports science guys and match committee to know who's right to go.  Sometimes a player is only a week away, but that week can make a difference.

Round 1 gets a lot of attention, but the season is long and every player we like doesn't have to be played in round 1 if it's deemed they're not ready.

Hopefully Cripps is more than a week away. I'd be happy enough with 2 weeks away at this stage.

The one area the Saints have dominated us in the past is getting numbers around the contest & then smashing us on the spread. This is the area we lacked gut running & pace. I think we've shown in all our JLT matches that we have rectified this. Our MOST talented extractor did not play once against saints last year. Oliver.. who has developed a tank. If he can win 50/50s more often than not, & get the ball out to our new runners in hunt, stretch, hannan & smith. All of a sudden we look like a quick unit who can reverse the trend & beat saints at their own game. I'm not saying we're going to win, but i am saying we could finally have what it takes to beat the saints. Which we have never realistically been in that position.

If he's an 80% chance to win a 50/50 ball, then in all probability we're between a 50-100% chance to win the game.

    take it to the bank.

  6. There's some elements to this team selection that I really like, some elements I'd do differently - but what I'm really pleased to see is that Goody in picking his first up team hasn't gone safe. He's honouring the guys who have pre-requisite fitness through a hard pre-season and it gives the squad clear evidence that there's a spot in the team for you if you continue to do the right things.

We have a good team on paper this week, and our depth understanding that they've got good future prospects given a match committee who fully considers all options.

    The only way is up.

We played about as poorly as we could have that day.

StKilda were all over, but we were well off our game.

I blame myself TPF. I was playing golf that day, got back to the clubhouse and the game was on the telly. It was halfway through the second qtr, and we were giving them a towelling. From the point I sat down, we stopped and the wheels completely fell off.

I humbly apologise. I have learned my lesson.

THe clubs should also ask the AFL for a written guarantee that the turf won't shift and is safe.

I'm sure the AFL has legal obligations to provide a safe workplace and accordingly hope they undertake due diligence via inspection by expert before sanctioning to use the venue to cover their backsides. I also hope they are contingency planning, but I think they'd need to call it (a change in venue) today/tomorrow am latest and can't see this happening with timing of other games planned at the G.

I also hope they are using the right dirt glue (earlier post still tickling my funny bone)

    Could've fooled me.

The report obviously overlooked the whopping 8,500 crowd we got to a recent home game on the Western fringe of the CBD.

We'll get about 34 Melbourne supporters at Etihad Stadium this weekend.

This is what the article is suggesting, though. We've got roughly 70 supporters, and 34 of them are going to the footy (48.7%)
