  1. Brock was never a guy to kick a goal from over 50 m out, unless it bounced a few times! His main problem at the moment is a severe lack of pace. He is still able to kick a goal from close range stoppages, and he can still get the ball out by hand from the centre. If the lack of pace is injury driven and able to be sorted, he is a keep. If he can only play at 2009 standard for the rest of his career then he is ripe for a trade. The coach should have a fair idea.

  3. Yeah, The emergencies are all gone! Valenti, Martin and McNamara... If you get dropped in round 22 you are not valued... It's clear to me... Maybe, these guys are already marked as required in 2010. I reckon they all showed plenty v Carlton. Just maybe, the the coach and support team can see what we see. So why the FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFK does anyone think that Valenti isn't a required player????????
  4. Haven't posted for a while but I like this one. 1 Davey 2 Jurrah 3 Morton 4 Grimes 5 Green 6 Martin 7 Watts 8 Sylvia 9 Petterd 10 Garland
  5. Jarka, thanks for getting my mind off the cricket! Since Robbie, to me, means post 87. 3 votes = Viney 2 = McDonald 1= Bruce
  6. Umpire 15, I told you you were wrong!
  7. It wasn't Kennedy... he baracks for Essendon. Umpire 15 was atrocious... the best evidence that umpires bet on games or are bribed that I can offer this week. His lack of common nouse was astounding. He reported Davey after several WC players got stuck into him as he was trying to get back to the centre after we caughed up a goal to his direct opponent. The message thay were trying to send (on Worsfold's orders) was "how do you like that weasal, your opponent just kicked one" etc. etc. However, umpire 15's understanding of the game caused him to deduce that Davey was trying to take someone out because he is a sniper who looks for trouble at every opportunity. For ***** sake!!!! YOU HAVE A PROFESSION AS AN ADJUDICATOR!!!! Try a little harder to read the situation and you might find that supporters actually respect you.
  8. disagree on Bate Jetta Jones
  9. Bate was our best forward. Watts kicked goals. Cheney is the Whelan replacement. I think Dunn offers us something and I don't mind him getting another go. Morton is cactus unless he gets it 25+ times because he gives us nothing in physicality. I don't rate Newton unless he snags 3 goals a game. and that is at VFL level. Maric needs to prove himself at VFL level, a 4 goal bag would be good. Warnock comes straight back if ready. Jones ditto...
  10. Jack has to go harder than that. I didn't expect more than 10 disposals, but he was overly concerned about the physical attention, which didn't eventuate. I know he will develop, but I wanted to see a little bit more desperation. If he gets a name for being soft it will haunt him for the rest of his career. Morton was criticised for putting in a few short ones in game 1, but his ability to handle the traffic soon became evident. I'll go on record now... all the junior accolades that Jack has amassed will = Jack sh*te if he isn't prepared to put his frame to the test within 2 more games.
  11. Bate – Improve below the knees Bell – Learn the game plan Bruce – kick more goals, you are capable Cheney – continue to back yourself Davey – don’t forget to go for goal Frawley – run and kick longer Green – be a captain for us Grimes – developing into a leader Jamar – our best ruck option Johnson – mistakes by hand, use that raking left foot Jones – gut-busting and developing Maric – I heard you were good by foot McDonald – time to pass the baton, but a great role model McLean – get fit and get back to basics Moloney – Your best is valuable Morton – versatile and developing well Rivers – needs other talls around him Robertson – just a pinch-hitter now, not the man Sylvia – has found belief and now in our top 3 Warnock – big-hearted spoiler Watts – needs to go a lot harder than that Whelan - brave but ageing
  12. 6 Jamar 5 Maric 4 Warnock 3 Grimes 2 McLean 1 Whelan
  13. +ve's Sylvia Rivers, Green + Frawley back from injury Whelan's tackle on Gee I'm Buddy Good Martin PJ -ve's Umpires Brock's pace Robbo's turtle goal NOT! Mediocre Demon attendance So called MFC supporter behind me who objected to my passion
  14. Ditto blokes. Makes you realise what a great contributor he has been over the journey. I too was anxious about him becoming a bit timid (like JW)... but he was deft and smooth as silk, as always.
  15. The days of a game being over at half time are over! teams that put the cue in the rack are arrogantly playing into the hands of their next opponent. Let me get this argument straight... The Demons had only a few decent contributors, our best player in 2009 was a dog and the fact that we were outscored by one point in the final three quarters was because the Hawks are so good that they rested 17 of their best!!!!
  16. Remember the noise that was made after the last Grand about Hawks bringing the player to the ground after getting rid of the ball. We were told that a 50 would be paid down ground.... Then there is the rule about pushing a player to the ground after he takes a mark. How many times did you see a Demon player pushed in the back by his direct opponent and bought to ground after taking a mark? Any penalty yesterday? No, you guessed right!
  17. Totally agree Dusty. I was screaming out about this incident for quite some time in the Members Reserve. I came home and have watched the full replay. Several of the Hawks early goals were umpire assists in my opinion. Lewis got a free in the centre early on when Moloney tackled him. The umpire said that he never took possession of the ball... I think it should have been a ball up. Buddy and Franklin pushed Melbourne players out when the ball wasn't anywhere near the marking contest... used to be in the back. Johnson was penalised for pushing over a small at the boundary throw in when it was obvious that this bloke was blocking his run at the ruck contest. Morton got a blatant push in the back in their forward line that went un-noticed... another goal assist IMO. Mitchell, Franklin, Williams etc get far more time to dispose of the ball than Whelan or Jones... etc...etc.
  18. Oh, please don't go GoodOilBoy... your contribution was breathtaking. For some reason your tag reminds me of the movie Deliverance... ever played the banjo?
  19. The biggest joke in football at the moment is putting the ball out in front of Brock McLean and expecting him to run onto it! I have seen hapless Demon players do this for two weeks running and the result is comical. My U/14 son could leave him for dead on the run. Is he injured? Must be... (take note of the kicking as well). Will he recover to be the medium slow player we remember in his first full year? I hope so. I'm ready to see him play for Casey as of three weeks ago, and I'm only being a realist! His lack of pace is the only embarrassment I have from today's clash.
  20. 1. Robert Flower 2. David Schwartz 3. Aaron Davey 4. Gary Hardeman 5. David Neitz
  21. Yep... Was at Waverley for Night Grand... did the lap with players waving the scalf my sister knitted for me. Still have the vision. Also at Western oval that magnificent day in round 22. Definitely the most remarkable day at the footy I've ever experienced. The players stopped when the crowd went off because of the Geel v Hawthorn result. They thought the ump had blown the whistle or something. We danced for joy on Western oval after the game, hundreds of Demon fans united by the greatest hope we had had for 23 years. Rode the finals roller-coaster and finished at the Buckenara end in the Prelim. Remember the sick gut walking back to the the car, when I turned on the radio the commentators were reporting that Stuart Spencer had fronted the umpires in their rooms about the decision. Saw Stuart at the MCC members on Saturday v Dogs... a good man, Stuart.
  22. I think I just saw our best effort for 2009 against highly rated opposition, maybe better than most of 2008 as well... but we have supporters making wholesale changes... BRUCE!!!!! what the???? MILLER????? The only sure inclusions are Green and Rivers if fit. I grant that Petterd may be rested (NOT DROPPED!!) for the same reasons that Bennell was rested... a body that has taken hits for the team throughout the opening rounds! Now... next cab off the rank BENNELL!!!! Rested... GET IT!!!!! Bell and Jamar will be considered at the selection meeting because one played well and one offers team balance if ready. So I reckon it all hinges on Green and Rivers medical reports. We may get a simple Green for Petterd result.
  23. Yeah... but he kicked the clutch goal that Miller and Sylvia (and Robbo) couldn't!
