  1. i love the jumper we wore that related to the yarra (local to melbourne). that was the pick. i reckon teams should pick a design specific to their area and keep it for at least a few years... this is a good one though. but that previous one was a fave.

  2. i acknowledge that he's been a lot more reliable of late and his extra bulk means that he is no longer a pushover against most forwards.. HOWEVER, he is still super slow in his decision-making and is rubbish below his waist. as soon as the ball goes to ground he's done. he gets into weird positions during congestion in the back half too. so he's definitely not out of the woods yet, but yes, much much better these days and lots to work with!

I've always been envious of other sides who bring in new players who seem to slot in straight away. I can't remember offhand a Melbourne player like that ... until now. He looks like he belongs !!! I realise that young players often lack consistency, and CS will no doubt have his good and bad games. But he looks a ripper !!!

    uhh.. oliver, petracca, viney..

Why didn’t the club say “rested” then instead of “omitted”

rested after 4 games? Maybe young Bayley isn’t one of Goodys favourites

maybe because things don't need to be constantly overexplained to us? he's a first year player and clearly quite thin. they threw him in for round 1 and he did some great things. not one of his favourites?! you're kidding right? maybe cite JKH instead.

    I guess you didn’t watch yesterday’s game.

you guessed right esay. if you are referring to throwing in baker, than surely we can't do any worse. we're bog-slow atm. he isn't a little guy, so won't get crunched. who knows, he might step up?

  6. i HATE esseondon, but they are gonna cut us up. maybe worth chucking in young oskar baker? i'd rather stick with garlett. he might come out and win the game. spargo isn't quite there yet.. drop ANB. get pedo in (we need someone that marks it). maybe drop weids/harmes.

  7.

Exactly, wondered about this last night.

    Tackle hard, fast and low.

he'll just lift the arms and handpass. no worries. especially with his kiwi background. those tactics won't work. teams need to get two players at him at a time. from different directions. afl players also need to learn how to tackle front on!

We have many problems but Jones aint one of them.

Let's start with a gameplan that doesn't work. Overpossess in the midfield and bomb long on the top of Garlett's head. Refusal to switch, etc.

A defence where four of our six (Jetta, Hibberd,  Lever and Hunt) are hopelessly out of form.

No outside ball carriers of quality.

    A one paced midfield.

NQR's making up bottom six. Harmes, ANB, Stretch, etc.

A ruckman that dominates but doesn't benefit the team in clearances.

No defensive crumbers. Everyone must fly simultaneously.

Selection that sees Fritsch dropped but Harmes play...

completely agree, but i reckon fritsch was rested, not dropped.

Good point, when Roughead marked the ball in the last quarter on his own about 30 metres out from a pass that came from the boundary someone posted Wagner had a few words to say to Lewis.

I didn’t see that but sitting at the bottom of the Ponsford a few of us noticed Max getting stuck into three teammates and the gestures indicated that those players weren’t in the right spot leading up to the play or filling the hole like they should. The disappointing thing out of all that was that all 3 players turned their back on him and walked away without even acknowledging Max. We slumped back in our seats wondering if there was any care factor after that.

    which 3 players mate?

  10. was super impressed with salem on the weekend. loved him smashing majak and looking out for his teammate (something i just haven't seen in the last few years by any dee). it's something we need to focus on. being hard and making opposition accountable.

Just goes to show maybe the coaches know a bit more about football than some people typing on a keyboard

we'll see if he's there in 12-18 mths mate. i'm not convinced. he's an honest player, but has clear limitations

ANB may not be a tagger, but he’s not soft. I find your comment disrespectful.

Besides, he had 18 or so possessions which was better than Harmes & Melksham

it's absolutely disrespectful. but it's true. just because he got possessions doesn't mean he early them. i like ANB, but he's a soft outside player and always will be. his attributes are his tank, goal sense and foot skills (when on).

Maybe Bernie and ANB get the nod to quell Mitchell.   If Mitchell wins the ball, we want him to cough it up.

lol. ANB?! no chance he's a tagger (soft) and if he got the ball her probably cough it up via poor disposal anyway.. he goes out in my opinion. melksham offers more and has grunt. also, milkshake might be another tagging option for Mitchell (sharing w Vince)?

  14. loving the analysis guys.. i reckon continuing to utilise this strategy will eventually pay off, once the players perfect it and everyone is on the same page. we will DEMOLISH teams. however, its not the most beautiful way to play and after the imitators (and maybe a flag), we will get loads of criticism for how ugly it is.

Go close to an unchanged team, unless team structure needs to change against the Hawks.

ANB and Melksham both on shaky ground, but would give both another game.

Wagner, Bugg, Kent & Frost all played pretty well so deserve to stay in.

Good to see pressure from Balic,, Weideman, Brayshaw and Pedersen from commentary on the Casey game!

completely agree. ANB needs to get those marks and get more involved and more physical if possible. melksham just needs to get more involved. he had some nice touches especially in the last qtr after his head knock. also a goal or two a game would be nice..

Rock solid. At the 3/4 time huddle Rawlings singled out Dec, Petty and White for their exceptional play in the 3rd quarter as setting the tone for the rest of them. Interestingly Rawlings at one stage deferred and let Mick Stinear to have a word to them. I've never seen a coach do that. One of the objectives in the huddle whiteboard was "money ball', no idea what that was referring to

hogan referred to this an interview during the week too.. maybe it was after the lions win? anyone else hear it?

    IF IF IF IF IF!!

IF we picked up Ollie, who know we may have won a few more and missed on Clarrie?

    Too many IFs.

IF we picked Dusty, Buddy etc etc.

    Water under the bridge.

mate. i was referring to picking wines up in the future. not in a previous draft. he can join our current boys.

The Roos will have Jy Simpkin as the only player to come in to their forward-line.

Explain to me why we need Frost given we could have the same 6 defenders playing against the 5 of the same 6 forwards from JLT 1?

We don't need Frost. I'm not sure what else needs to be said.

uhh.. it was a trial game?
