Did you mean to quote me? This as a reply makes no sense.

Look I get it, you feel a bit silly for not getting the Garrett/Garlett spelling error and instead you acted faux-offended. All good.

listen 'mate', i don't feel silly. it's funny that no one thought to ask what was offensive about the initial comment.. the choice of song and subject matter, especially considering that it is indigenous round, is really bloody careless to me.

i tagged you because you suggested that the other fella had 'looked way too much into it', implying that he was overreacting and being offended on someone else's behalf for no real reason. look i get it, you guys just dig midnight oil's music for the way that you can 'get jiggy with it', not the subject matter.. thought that the overall community on this site would find it clear to see that this is problematic in our country. anyway, whatever, nevermind..

I think you answered your own question in the first half of your sentence. Even if a player is "going cheap" they still take a spot on the list and consume some salary cap.

who would you rather have on the list la dee? darcy moore or jkh? or, let's just say, a mature-aged recruit from brissie or something? surely, if moore only cost a late rounder or something, we'd bite.

what the [censored] does that even mean?! not sure if this is meant to be insensitive on purpose or an ignorant attempt at humour?

After witnessing Melbourne's demolition of Carlton today I am increasingly becoming bullish. Rocky, do you still think that your "not sure this current style will win big games"? like the one against Adelaide next week...I think we'll smash 'em.

i am in amsterdam at the moment and have been very good and not watched the game yet (waiting for the girlfriend to finish work). i've read all about it, but not even seen the highlights.. so, with this knowledge, it clearly seemed about as comprehensive as we've played as a team. no stand outs, which is awesome. i mean, the game plan is what the players have been taught and its now ingrained, so we'll be persisting with it no matter what i'd suggest (at least this year). very, very interested to see how we go against a team with decent mid's, competitive talls and speed (hi crows!). might fall back into that old over handball thang we like to do? we'll see. i'm stoked they won obviously, but cautious and far from bullish. i wouldn't criticize anyone else from being that though :)

Watch Pies make a big play for Sam Weideman. Pies will offer 1st round pick. Pick 8-9 (pies 1st round) for Weid and our pick 26-27 (2nd round).

F-orf is my reply.  We have invested and he is ready to rock in 2019. Could be our Hogan-Weideman-Tommymcd forward era.

purely hypothetically.. if trading weideman meant we could get gaff, would you do it? with gaff i reckon we'd be top four and really pushing for a flag. i think weideman is too important personally. he'll come good. could be on the cards though if the club gets aggressive and looks for a flag ASAP instead of in 3-4 years time..

Last year he played while missing a toenail which impacted his ability to kick. Still a very handy player and lile another poster said he is prepared to play at Casey to stay on the list. Also agree we shouldnt lose someone like Hunt to keep him.

that sucks, but last year he played poor. he made dumb decisions. lots of intercepted kicks across goal, etc. of course he's a handy player. he's still very very good on his day. no, we shouldn't lose hunt to keep him absolutely. but they are two different players with different skillsets. unrelated in my opinion.

All very well Rocky, but we haven't had any joy in RednBlue for 54 years. and counting. we cannot carry players any longer like we did in past years, even when getting to the ladder top, all that brings is iffy workrates and amateur output and ends in teasing the support base when not really in the hunt for the Silver Cup.

Pretenders/front-runners is truly all Melbourne has been, in the past 25 years.  entertainers Yes, but the real deal, NOT.

This is because we like to be a club who barracks for our loved players,,, no matter what.  Instead of Expecting a Hell of a lot more, from them.

This breeds players like Watts, who want to be liked/adored, and wants to be casual about footy, as he gets paid handsomely by us all for the privilege.

We have had too many players who wanted to be show ponies, instead of Premiers.

    agree to disagree.

Yeh a chase down for holding the ball and a snap goal

Is also in our top 5 for forward 50 tackles behind Pedders, Clarry, Jeffy, and Harmes

so jeff has missed what, 3 AFL games this year? and he's in the top 5 for pressure? curious.. so if he was back in, he could potentially be no. 1 for pressure? curiouser and curiouser..

He is currently being overtaken, by young players who work hard in all weather.

this is why i referred to spargo in my earlier post. look. we all love seeing the dees play an exciting brand of footy and garlett is a huge part of this. he brings a joy to the game that is rare. i have not said that i think he should just stay in the team every game. i completely understand why he's been dropped, and why a player like spargo is in. but he isn't a KPB/F. he won't go back to casey and 'find form'. sometimes he's really in games and sometimes he isn't.. when i say 'in games' i'm referring to pressure, goals and everything else that comes with being a small forward. until spargo plays a poor game, garlett is probably gonna stay at casey. but as soon as spargo is ineffectual (probably next week against the crows), garlett will be straight back in, even if he has been average at casey. i don't see the point in people arguing over garlett. the thing that annoys me is that people can't just let him be a player that floats in and out of a game to provide magic. not all flag teams have had a completely even contribution from their players. i'm ok having one player that can provide that rare skill and the unexpected, just as long as he makes a passable attempt at providing pressure, tackle, etc, etc..

That is the epitome of a front-runner.

When down he goes missing totally, instead of crashing in and busting a gut.

When out of form, you do not lose the ability to work harder, even if the ball isn't bouncing for you.  This is pure desperation to work your way back into it.

front runners give up on the work ethic.  see wattshisface.

so you're implying the kid won't get dropped? small forwards are largely dependant on stuff happening further back the field.. spargo just so happened to arrive when things were getting ironed out with regards to our game plan. it helps we have two tall forwards now as well to create a bit of chaos. if it was spargo n hogan alone in the forward line and we were bombing it in like in the first few games, people wouldn't be so excited about spargo's pressure and general game. i like him don't get me wrong, but garlett is better all round and don't even mention bugg in this conversation. if garlett kills it at casey this weekend, he's back in.

Another front runner.  If we want to get bejond any front running habits within this club, then we have to cut front runner types from our list,,, as soon as we can.

I climbed onto the Garlett bandwagon last year,,, but like with 'wattshisface',,,  I'm jumping back off that festival float disappointed again from the downturn in efforts.

The standard we look beyond, is the culture we shall receive.

mate. he's outta form. when on song, garlett kicks goals, applies pressure and is in discussions for the all australian squad. that wouldn't happen if he was a 'front-runner'. furthermore, i prefer personality and a little bit of quicksilver in my team. not boring foot soldiers with no spirit or flair. sometimes quicksilver is hard to predict and sometimes it does magical things.. i hope he is back in the first team asap. and i hope he kicks a bag in our first GF win since 1964 in the next few years.

let's worry about our own signings before we got out and try and lure outside talent.

i agree, but as everyone on this sites whines about how its fine we are on masterchef, surely we can sign our current crop as well as look at outside players (literally) to join the club? i'm sure the club is more than capable these days to juggle some balls..

  13. let's just agree to disagree.. at the end of the day, it doesn't really offend me that they were on this shitty show, i just don't see it as a positive. as someone from northern nsw, if you think that people from the northern states will tune in to watch the dees v blues game as a result of the show, or even think of the dees again in their lives, you are delusional. but that's ok, it's a forum and can all have our own opinions ?
