  1. I have wondered for over 40 years what had happened to Glen Swann, mainly because I saw him play just one game but it was one of the most impressive I have ever seen (was it his debut?). Have asked around and checked the web over the years but no luck - great to see discussion of him and others on this message board.

As David Cordner was described previously, Swann was also a "blue blood blonder hair 6'4" adonis", whom I saw play at the MCG in 1973 and boot 8 goals. Moreover, I recall a number of them being torpedoes from 60-70 yards from near the boundary. Quite tall for those days and wonderfully fast and agile and a strong mark plus a monster kick. I assumed he must have gone off to the bush because there seemed no limit to his potential but perhaps he did just fizzle out.

Did anyone else witness his golden day at the 'G and those torps?

As I mentioned elsewhere , I recall this talented young man following up his 8 goals with the Dees by taking 8 wickets a week or two later as an opening bowler with the Melbourne district cricket first eleven.

  2. Does anyone remember a player by the name of David Hone, who played as an amateur ( or came from the amateurs ) and who was a brilliant and courageous standout immediately at centre half back, but then disappeared, virtually overnight ,possibly to continue his studies?

  3. I believe Cuthbertson is still playing good quality senior football in the Diamond Valley League

An interesting fact about Glenn Swan is that he followed up his 8 goals for Melbourne by taking 8 wickets the following weekend ( I think ) playing for Melbourne 1sts in District Cricket .
