whats that Daisy ? is that a site for kids ? I only read the classics, or writers from the continent or latin america. I don't even read my own work. I did not know that having fun was banned. what are you and Uncle doing if not having fun ? In Uncles case it is probably a bit more complicated than that.

That's a bit rough OD. Can't I have some fun. And booze and Hemingway are antonyms. At least when no-one is looking. Now where is that closet?

Tragic. There is often a price that is paid for those in the limelight. Young men have to cope with all the temptations and pressures of being a professional footballer.. Some are better equipped to handle it than others. Sometimes we look at professional sportsmen and think ""how good would it be"" to play and be paid for the sport that you love. How much better than normal paid employment.. Yet despite all the glamour, they have to deal with the vicissitudes of such a life. Colin has attracted a lot of comment and scrutiny. Others fall by the wayside with gambling, depression, alcohol related problems. Others end up with mental health problems that no one other than their immediate families know about. I have just been in the local supermarket and the proprietor talked to me about the problems that his son faced when he was axed from an AFL list. Despite all the warm and fuzzy things we hear about club assistance, he was unceremoniously dumped by a phone call, without follow-up or contact from the club. His sense of failure and disappointment was so great that he became depressed and suicidal. So with the glamour and hype comes a cost, and often you have to wonder if it all worth it. For some there is no doubt that the gains outweigh the negatives, but for others not so. From all reports Colin had some very good human qualities. He will be sadly missed by his family and close friends. And the highlights shown on this thread, show what a gifted footballer he was. And it is these recollections and the courtesy and kindness that he showed to many individuals that should be remembered.

Sorry, missed your point, I agree.

and old enough to be respectful Red.

But care a thought for the administrators. 50 per cent want it closed down 50 per cent don’t. The administrators close the thread and then get criticised by the other half. I think their position is completely understandable.
-
Its so simple, if you don't like a thread don't go there. If you don't like music or a tv program, don't tune in or turn it off.

More grey hair, skin cancers, poor food, crocodiles, hillbillies, murderers, distasteful objects (big pineapples) prentending to be tourist icons, real estate shonkys , more Rakes than should be allowed in any jurisdiction, strange dialects of language, misuse of grammar, slow speech, slow everything and worst of all, bananas.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
hemingway replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
Nadal and Federer. A top spin forehand across court from Pro Dee and then a backhand slice down the line from Binman. -
""Corey displays all the characteristics we want in a Melbourne player" Mahoney's comments obviously reflect the view of the coaching staff. You would think they may have an idea. Its hard to base an opinion on 2 senior games. When I watched him he looked a bit slow, but the coaching staff obviously see potential in the guy.
-
Mahoney says it all and who are we to argue. Although 27 he started his footy career very late so physically he should be able to go for another 5 or 6 years. The later you start the more years you have left.

No Biff, that pastime is only for those who have over indulged in illicit substances. Not my cup of tea. Shared boarding houses was not my thing, as I was always moving house to maintain my open marriages. As I said before, Old Uncle Bitters is just a figment of his former self. A sad old dog, desperate for relevance when everyone has moved on.

Sounds great Red but what does a teetotaler do? You know there is no more carousing for old Ernie?
-
you should know that I have been dry for 60 years classy as usual

You are a natural for this thread.

Of all people Daisy I thought you would have a better defence of the skeletal remains of this thread.
-
Daisy and Red, dedicated committed warriors keeping this thread afloat. Hope your boat Red is more buoyant. How about a bit of interesting case law Red or Daisy you must be a guy with a huge array of interests. Can we share something other than banana or avocado stories. Otherwise dear old OD will be telling us about a banana smoothy or banana on his muesli. I think I would rather read Uncle’s lurid stories so things must be getting desperate.

Key points. Possession and disposal. WC nailed us because they killed us in the midfield and defence, as we allowed them to run and spread and hit their forward targets. We were not allowed to play our manic possession brand as WC just ran away from us and out marked us up forward.

The view was the Dixon was a poor coach. However, a past North player who played under him, had a lot of respect for him, and told me that the main legacy of Dixon's time was that he brought a professional approach to training and preparation and that this period laid a foundation stone for Barassi and Norths success. He said that prior to Dixon's time, the players were unfit and poorly prepared. The players did not love him but respected him because he was a past great and member of one of the most successful teams in the history of the VFL. The ex-player commented that the aura of Dixon's and MFC success had a profound impact on the players and administration. North subsequently acquired three ex-captains of their respective clubs (Davis, Rantall, Wade) under the 10 rule and together with Kekovitch and a group of talented young players they went on an upward trajectory. .

But it is still that old curmudgeon Ernie, trying to string a few words together.

Is this not the dilemma that all clubs face when the team is performing badly ? The age old question, is it the players or the coach ? In our case, it was a bit of both. There is enough evidence that Neeld's style was unsuited to the players. Unlike Goodwin, the players did not want to play for him. However, Goody has had some success so there will always be better good vibes than when you are badly beaten every week. There are posters with more facts at their fingertips than me but Neeld did start off with a group of players that were expected to perform, but didn't. Don't forget, we got a new Coach with Neeld, but we did not have a complete overhaul of the Club as we got with Roos and Goodwin.
-
Balanced comments. The interesting thing is that the Cats have delisted Menzel but kept on the list a group of players with less skills.
-
Not just Neeld, it was a top to bottom problem. The whole organisation was rotten.
-
What I liked about Robbo and Bernie was the dignified way they finished their careers. No recriminations, acceptance that the end had come, and such a positive attitude of their careers and their attitude toward the club.
-
Yes, well there you are. He's no longer on the list.
