Grief does have a way of uniting us all. And its reminder that much of our daily life is insignificant and unimportant. And its a tribute to Colin that he was loved by so many. That is his legacy.

you have just passed the sanity test. those that remain lost the plot along time ago. they kid themselves that they are clever and have a view of life that is ...superior. that there is meaning in their meandering imaginations. its a weird kind of pseudo intellectualism when its not pseudo or intellectual.
  3. He had a team full of disciples.
  4. But Adam, at the end of the day, Juddy was a very expensive buy and it did not translate into team success/flag. Whereas, Kennedy has been pivotal to his team's success/flag. Kennedy for mine.

Unlike the Saudi Embassy, Uncle has cameras installed inside and outside.
  6. Penultimate sentence says it all. Like young footballers sometimes those that shine early fade and the slow developers emerge and blossom down the track and can be the most interesting. But to the parents of VCE students, good luck and don't worry. Its more important what your kids are doing at 30 not 18.

Red, forget the handcuffs and chains. Just take plenty of bleach. And secretly film and record the experience on your phone. It may be useful when you need evidence in court.

Fine words. Balance is restored for us when something like this happens. For all the harsh words and comments leveled at others, their lives are important. For Colin and all those Demons who have sadly made their final journey, their spirit lives on in the red and blue jumper that we love so much. He will always remain part of the rich tapestry that is our footy club.

whats that Daisy ? is that a site for kids ? I only read the classics, or writers from the continent or latin america. I don't even read my own work. I did not know that having fun was banned. what are you and Uncle doing if not having fun ? In Uncles case it is probably a bit more complicated than that.

That's a bit rough OD. Can't I have some fun. And booze and Hemingway are antonyms. At least when no-one is looking. Now where is that closet?

Tragic. There is often a price that is paid for those in the limelight. Young men have to cope with all the temptations and pressures of being a professional footballer.. Some are better equipped to handle it than others. Sometimes we look at professional sportsmen and think ""how good would it be"" to play and be paid for the sport that you love. How much better than normal paid employment.. Yet despite all the glamour, they have to deal with the vicissitudes of such a life. Colin has attracted a lot of comment and scrutiny. Others fall by the wayside with gambling, depression, alcohol related problems. Others end up with mental health problems that no one other than their immediate families know about. I have just been in the local supermarket and the proprietor talked to me about the problems that his son faced when he was axed from an AFL list. Despite all the warm and fuzzy things we hear about club assistance, he was unceremoniously dumped by a phone call, without follow-up or contact from the club. His sense of failure and disappointment was so great that he became depressed and suicidal. So with the glamour and hype comes a cost, and often you have to wonder if it all worth it. For some there is no doubt that the gains outweigh the negatives, but for others not so. From all reports Colin had some very good human qualities. He will be sadly missed by his family and close friends. And the highlights shown on this thread, show what a gifted footballer he was. And it is these recollections and the courtesy and kindness that he showed to many individuals that should be remembered.
  12. Sorry, missed your point, I agree.
  13. and old enough to be respectful Red.
  14. But care a thought for the administrators. 50 per cent want it closed down 50 per cent don’t. The administrators close the thread and then get criticised by the other half. I think their position is completely understandable.
  15. Its so simple, if you don't like a thread don't go there. If you don't like music or a tv program, don't tune in or turn it off.

More grey hair, skin cancers, poor food, crocodiles, hillbillies, murderers, distasteful objects (big pineapples) prentending to be tourist icons, real estate shonkys , more Rakes than should be allowed in any jurisdiction, strange dialects of language, misuse of grammar, slow speech, slow everything and worst of all, bananas.
  17. Nadal and Federer. A top spin forehand across court from Pro Dee and then a backhand slice down the line from Binman.
  18. ""Corey displays all the characteristics we want in a Melbourne player" Mahoney's comments obviously reflect the view of the coaching staff. You would think they may have an idea. Its hard to base an opinion on 2 senior games. When I watched him he looked a bit slow, but the coaching staff obviously see potential in the guy.
  19. Mahoney says it all and who are we to argue. Although 27 he started his footy career very late so physically he should be able to go for another 5 or 6 years. The later you start the more years you have left.

No Biff, that pastime is only for those who have over indulged in illicit substances. Not my cup of tea. Shared boarding houses was not my thing, as I was always moving house to maintain my open marriages. As I said before, Old Uncle Bitters is just a figment of his former self. A sad old dog, desperate for relevance when everyone has moved on.

Sounds great Red but what does a teetotaler do? You know there is no more carousing for old Ernie?

Of all people Daisy I thought you would have a better defence of the skeletal remains of this thread.

Daisy and Red, dedicated committed warriors keeping this thread afloat. Hope your boat Red is more buoyant. How about a bit of interesting case law Red or Daisy you must be a guy with a huge array of interests. Can we share something other than banana or avocado stories. Otherwise dear old OD will be telling us about a banana smoothy or banana on his muesli. I think I would rather read Uncle’s lurid stories so things must be getting desperate.
