  1. And Dom Barry... basically half the Port Adelaide midfield squad.
  2. The week before the draft. He based it on skills, leadership and training standards. We shouldn’t forget that Toumpas was a junior star and was considered a top 2 pick all year, whilst Wines was a bolter who was projected to be a late first rounder leading into the U18 champs. Theyre kids, it happens- just ask O’Rourke and Plowman who went at 2 and 3.
  3. Haven’t heard that, but I was listening to SEN when they asked Jack Viney who he’d take and he said Jimmy Toumpas. Oh well, we take Wines and he drags us over the line in a few of the close games in 2014 and 15. This pushes us up the draft order and we miss out on Petracca, Brayshaw and Oliver. Essendon won’t accept a later second round pick for Melksham and Hibberd and tell us to take a hike. Another club pounces on ANB and O’Mac and Tom McDonald leaves the Dees to play alongside his brother. Hogan doesn’t want to play in a forward line without any support so he departs and Lewis doesn’t sign onto a club that doesn’t even have a key forward. Passing on Wines was the best thing we’ve ever done.
  4. We have no picks as currency and I'm not willing to part with a comparable player. Gaff is a free agent at the end of this season - have a red-hot crack at him this year. Let Wines sign on to PA for another two years, then at the end of that contract, he's a free agent - have a crack then.
  5. Split the gate every year or alternate. He's well within his rights to ask for Collingwood to get their share and the onus is on us to ensure that we remain competitive and build toward lasting success and sustainability. The AFL and the TV networks are in charge of the fixturing and Eddie was certainly under no obligation to allow us Home Game status for so many years.
  6. Perhaps a bit of both. One of the biggest wraps for Lever is his leadership and ability to read and understand the play. Though only a relative youngster, this could be a valuable insight to developing players and defenders at the club. I say get him involved on match days or down at the VFL help Keilty, Petty and co.
  7. I didn’t post in the early pages of the thread, but my sentiments would have been the same as most- disappointing pick-up, no real weapons, won’t make the grade. Would have to come close to the biggest career turn-around of all time.
  8. With Nth possibly finishing as high as 6th after this round... how is it that ‘Melbourne hasn’t beaten anyone yet...’??
  9. We can hope... Unfortunately in David Schwartz’s book, I think he said that after his third acl injury he was able to go camping and fishing between the injury and the scans/confirmation.
  10. Reminds me of a young Fyfe. That’s not me suggesting he’ll develop into the player Fyfe is now, but back in his early days, Fyfe had a similar style and build.
  11. How can a player of Fritsch’s build take 14 marks in senior AFL football? Freak.
  12. We can hope, but not unheard of to be walking after an acl. Fingers and toes.
  13. Amazing reading through the comments on Facebook and other forums. Nathan Jones is universally respected by the AFL community. Its extremely rare that AFL fans agree on anything.
  14. I think threads like this are better after we've won by 80+.
  15. I don't think we can congratulate ourselves too much on our build to sustained success, when we have yet to achieving anything at all... Looks like the bulldogs used some great recruiting and development to rebuild their 2008-09 'almost' teams . WBFC . MFC 2008: 3. 16. 2009: 3. 16. 2010: 4. 12. 2011: 10. 13. 2012: 15. 16. 2013: 15. 17. 2014: 14. 17. 2015: 8. 13. 2016: 1. 11.
  16. Wasn't even 9 goals in a half- his first goal came almost halfway through the third! Freak. (Or, dare I say, wizard)
  17. Adelaide were a ‘scalp’ but now expectations are getting higher. The discussion has now shifted from ‘Will Melbourne make the finals?’ to ‘Can they win the premiership?’ This is a good thing and shows that we are now viewed as a genuine chance, albeit still with a few credentials to prove after dropping three early matches.
  18. Nice to hear... "I've lived here (Melbourne) for about six years now and I'd almost call it home," Hogan told AFL.com.au. "I still love going back to Perth obviously. But with each year I stay here, it's probably that little bit further away from going back to Perth."
  19. There’s very little chance that our blessed run of injuries will continue. Balic, Tyson, Jeffy, Weideman, etc will all have an opportunity at some stage.
  20. Ha! It’s eerily familiar. What sticks in my mind is the Voice of the G halftime Mario Cart races. Some epic battles there!
  21. Was a great year and was the best Melbourne team I've seen in my time! There was a perfect mix of age, experience, youth and enthusiasm.
  22. When we win the flag this year, I think Vince and Lewis may bow out. That'll free up some cap space...
  23. He had a strange kicking style for someone who was able to kick as far as and as powerfully as he could. He used to poke at the ball, rather than having a massive 'Darren Bennett' style follow-through.
  24. Granted I am amongst the world's worst tippers, but I came out with fourth. It's a bit of fun and I can't for the life of me imagine why the official AFL one isn't being released until mid-season...
