The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
My ideal off-season would be as follows: - Trade for Mabior Chol to be our ruck/forward (44 goals in 2022 show he is no slouch) - Trade Grundy for pick 22 and then look for a cheap back up ruck option (Hayes or Flynn spring to mind) - Utilise our picks pick 13, 22, 24, 34 and future first to end up with two top 10 picks and ideally another within 20 this year - Draft one of McKercher, Duursma or Sanders with our first pick - Draft O'Sullivan with our next pick - Draft a classy ball user with our 3rd pick and Kynan Brown with a later pick - Trade a 3rd rounder to Adelaide for McAdam There will be other players that I'm sure will pop up, but that to me is the key things we need to address. Oh and I would not be trading Tomlinson and plan to play him with Lever and May next season and a forward line with Petty, JVR and Chol. Potential team: B: McVee May Rivers HB: Salem Tomlinson Bowey C: McKercher Viney Hunter HF: Petracca Petty Neal-Bullen F: Fritsch JVR Pickett R: Gawn Oliver Brayshaw Int: Chol McAdam Sparrow Chandler -
I'm heading to Europe on Thursday so will miss the great man's 200th! An absolute legend of the club and one of the greatest leaders we've ever had. I'll try and get a live stream while I'm over there.... anyone know how?
-
Brodie Grundy was fine on Saturday and played his role. With Petty down and Brown and TMac shadows of 2021 we don't really have any other options.
-
I was definitely not having a go at Kate Roffey. She's fantastic. It was more the club as a whole... get your point though
-
My mate just showed me the holding the ball on JVR in the last few minutes (I couldn't see it from my spot in the MCC). That is the worst decision in history and an absolute disgrace. Was a text book taking the legs and should've been a JVR free.
-
If we haven't already, I hope the club grows some gonads and sends a please explain to the AFL about the number of times Gawn is manhandled. Just because your 208cms doesn't mean you don't deserve the same rules as everyone else.

Because if I'm North I'm just holding out, worst case they get the 2nd/3rd best player and best case WC take Curtin and they get Reid.
-
Would not be surprised if WC went with Curtin pick 1. He looks to be a pretty awesome prospect.

Petracca: The Dees are Ready for September
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Funnily enough after the Dogs game at the start of the season she mentioned the crowd. I then went to check the corresponding game that the Tigers played the Dogs the year before and the crowd size was almost identical. -

If you've every listened to the Real Footy podcast with Caro, Michael Gleeson & Jake Niall, Caro is constantly trying to pot our crowds saying she was disappointed in the turn out. The other two then say, oh no I thought the crowd was fine for that fixture. Has happened multiple times. A heap of people in the media seem to treat us with disdain, but whetever who gives a F, let's just prove them wrong. FYI I don't listen to that podcast anymore because of her. -
It makes you wonder why the AFL were so keen on having 18 teams, when they had no plans for a proper season.... such an amateur organisation.

How far away is Matt Jefferson?
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Floody100's topic in Melbourne Demons
Agreed. Have no issues with his courage in the air. He won't be a big bodied key forward, but more in the vein of a Jarrad Waite type player I think. -
Our defence looked very vulnerable in the first half, which I put down to having Smith come in with not a great deal of training with the defence group. Lever looked all at sea early and was unable to play his natural role. I would like to see Tommo come back in to focus on a lockdown role to allow Lever to play with more freedom (exact same thing happened early in the year). As for the replacement for Petty, who knows what we will do. Grundy will be a massive upgrade in the ruck but downgrade forward. Smith is a much better sub in my mind than playing a full game. Schache is the most obvious like for like replacement, but not sure he is up to AFL standard.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
She is so good to watch. Think she will be a top 5-10 world player in no time. -
Not really related to the injury, but given what we have seen with Petty and JVR forward should we be targeting a key defender in the off season? I personally would look at getting a key tall to play alongside May & Lever and leave Petty as a key forward.

I reckon the Bont will win it this year.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Size and scope I think. He doesn't have any specific weapons, he is just a neat, solid player. Probably a good thing though as it will likely cost us a very late pick and he looks like the type of kid who will get every ounce of talent out of himself. -
5 weeks until our first final. You doubt we would risk him, but he could be back for a prelim/semi if we make it.
-
I think we would want a bit more back from WC is we are giving picks 4 & 5. From a draft number perspective those two picks are worth 3,912 points and pick 1 is worth 3,000 (I note that the draft values aren't as relevant in this instance). We would probably want WC second round pick back for that and maybe a swap of other picks.

Aliir Aliir & Lachie Jones in Concussion Protocol
DistrACTION Jackson replied to YearOfTheDees's topic in Melbourne Demons
Cornes is so biased it's embarrassing. Amazed no one else in the media is calling him out for not doing his 'Vol-Kane-o' segment about this. He is an absolute peanut and can't stand the bloke. -
Yeah he is. I've always liked him as a player and find it surprising he has one of the lowest DE in the comp. He's always seemed like a neat user to me.
-
I'm fine with that personally, given we got the same thing for Frawley (though I think he was a better player than McKay). If they give them both I will not be happy and I'd definitely be open to taking Sanders out our first pick if he's available.
-
The AFL will probably give them an end of 1st round but give them access to Sanders, so essentially they get two top 10 picks anyway.

2023 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
I'm in the camp that would rather we use our 1st pick, Freo 2nd and our 2nd to try get Gold Coasts first. We can then take two top 10 picks to the draft. As mentioned before I would be surprised if we aren't interested in O'sullivan. 198cm key defender and a great replacement for May in 2-3 years time. Plus if we want to stick with the Petty/JVR forward combo moving forward it would be nice to have another gun key defender to replace petty. -

Slightly different to the other ones, with Caddy much higher.
