  1. Got plans this weekend? You do now if you've got Foxtel or have a dee supporting mate that does. From midnight on Friday night for 24 hours it is nothing but Melbourne games. A few from 2015 and a few older ones. In true Foxtel form they don't give the year of the games just the teams and round. I assume they will all be wins ?

so tell your other half to take the kids to see the grandparents, buy a slab and enjoy some footy.

Ive been hanging to watch some old matches as I've got a newborn and am up all hours with nothing to watch. And Foxtel have only had that guest programming on which is basically the same finals played over and over. Don't get me started.

Anyway, thought some of you might not notice that this was happening.

  2. There is no option but to let them top up. If they get 12 injuries which happens sometime and suspension or two, they cannot field a team. That would be an even bigger farce.

Relax. Top ups = rejects, retirees, players that can't get on a rookie list. And the 32 squad players won't be invested. Why should they?

  3. I agree this is a major issue.  The last few years our season is over by round 5, let alone round 11.

you wait all year for the season to start with the sole goal of making finals to have a chance to win the flag.  Then half way through ~6/7 teams are no chance at all.  what are they playing for?  to improve/game plan blah blah.  a footy game without a real reward or goal is pointless. I can certainly see a new draw in the coming years where each plays each other once and then it splits into 3 groups with rewards for each.

That North game is the important yardstick in all of that.

I thought that last year for the first time we had North's measure. They jumped us in the first, we clawed our way back in the next two and outscored and outplayed them, then we ran out of legs in the last. We got our selection wrong (didn't Ben Brown get a few - five straight or something? - and we didn't have a match-up for him), and we got our structures wrong until we tightened up in the second and third quarters.

In 2016, we have to beat North (do we get a second crack at them, or is Round 3 the only time?). I don't think we're ready to beat the top 3 or 4, but we really need to beat more of the "pretender" teams like North & Richmond & maybe even Port & WCE if we're going to really move forward in 2016.

the 2nd and 3rd quarters from that north game were our best 2 quarters for the year i reckon. we played unbelievably well and I think and hope it was a glimpse of what we are aiming for with playing and moving it quickly.

carn the Dees!  (Im excited too apparently)

Not sure how injuries to his legs effects his hands when he goes for marks DD.

he is a support player who we may get a dozen games from in 2016.

if he is around in 2017 it should be at a very much reduced salary.

IMO he is not the future that will see us playing finals football.

he is never going to have great hands and he didnt at the pies when he won a premiership medal

his injuries stop him from getting to enough contests, from pressuring, making space from his man on a lead etc

Arrived at1:40pm. Tyson, Brayshaw, Vince, Spencer, Vandenburg, Jetta, Dawes, Frost in Rehab group doing short run-throughout slow pace

I reckon Dawes should sponsor the Rehab group.  Will he ever get his body right?  must be so frustrating for him.  I think if he was fully fit he would be a decent player but these injuries/niggles get rid of whatever agility he has.

He hasn't ever been fully fit since he joined us

  7. I really think Watts will do very well when we are a good team playing to a predictable structure.

i liken him in some ways to Gaff/Sheuy or even Rioli.  how good were Gaff and Sheuy when the eagles were doing well a few years ago?  the eagles struggle and they struggle and now they look great again.  how much would people talk about Rioli if he played the last 7 years with the Dees?   Watts is a finisher - he will never be more aggressive then he is now but finishers struggle in bad teams

i cant help but hold out hope Watts will become a very important player for us.

  8. both go hard but its not that they have average kicking skills.  they are both very poor kicking the footy and making decisions.  you need to be at least ok in these areas to make it at AFL level so theyll both be delisted at the end of the year.  Matt Jones in particular certainly helped out our midfield during possibly our darkest days and I thank him for his efforts

put it this way, if these two guys get contracts, who are the 3-4 guys we delist at the end of the season?

  9. maybe foxtel are picking one player from each team for the month? so the best player from tigers, either cotchin, delido or martin.  from eagles, probably kennedy, priddis (no idea how they picked nic nat)

they just called it superstar month as 'Quite good player' month doesnt sound as good

fairly pointless arguing on the definition of a superstar as there is no definition.  every one has a different idea.  same with A grade, star, etc

I can't agree. Life membership is for 10 years service. Col played for the dees for 10 years. Its not a value based award and doesn't cheapen the honor for Jones, or any one else, in the slightest. And jeez louise its not as if Col is an axe murderer

    fair enough if you disagree

probably says more about us as a club back then that we couldnt push him onto greater things and when he didnt respond year in/year out, we didnt get rid of him. no way we should have put up with him for 10 years. Having a senior player that coasts through on the list does a lot of damage.

Some people think he left the club but I reckon as soon as Roos came he was keen to send him packing. And by god did he show his true colours at Freo.

  11. how essendon reckon changing their black and red jumper to red and black helps much, Ive no idea.  and ive no idea how the AFL approve this.  The whole idea it to use different colours so we can follow the game and so the players know who is on their team FFS

every team should have a clash jumper that is >80% not including any colours from their home jumper.  I really like our white one and it works well.  But I agree that obviously it should only be worn for the 4-5 actually clashes we have per year
