I am still stoked we landed Fritsch. I thought at beginning of trade night, if we walked away with Fritsch I'd be happy, anything more is a bonus. I don't know much about the others. I have only seen Fritsch play a handful of times - but he looked impressive. I remember watching Mitch Hannan play most of his games the year we drafted him, and I was happy we landed him, he did it against men, and his frame wasn't a limitation. I don't expect Fritsch frame to limit him at all. I think he may play early. There is nothing about his game that suggests he has to put on size (at least in respect of contributing at AFL level - size will naturally come in time). So its a good get for mine. Hope he does well.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARRISON PETTY
KingDingAling replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well said. I agree. Less pressure on them and less whinging from all of us. I am guilty of expecting too much too early off of draftees, and I think part of it comes from the mediocre performances off of our senior blokes. We are always looking for some youth to step in - because our seniors are letting us down. Since we have had Roos we have improved I believe. 5-6 years ago I'd be hoping Petty was the next big thing because we needed him to be. Now it feels as though it doesn't matter as much. We appear to have a ready made list now. There is no excuses for the guys in the side. Best MFC team I have seen in a long time. I do get ahead of myself but our side looks really promising. Hopefully Petty just develops at Casey and gets to learn his craft without expectation. We still have key position back in Keilty who will be ready before he is. That should ease the pressure. -
I suspect a psychological assessment may be reasonable. I don't claim to be a psychologist, or know much about the law, but Sylvia has consistently done some pretty stupid things in the past decade. We have not only heard whispers, but actually have evidence of this bloke being a tool. Perhaps there is a psychological aspect that needs to be looked at. The bloke ain't right. Fair enough he has never grown up, but without knowing him, he does seem a little off.

Preseason Training - Week commencing 27/11/17
KingDingAling replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Played with a crook toe for the first half of the year. I would be prepared to cut him some slack. I actually think Vince may be one who improves significantly next year. Had a poor year this year but improved towards the end.- 171 replies

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CHARLIE SPARGO
KingDingAling replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Size is no longer a disadvantage in this game. Because players can no longer are not supposed to dive on the ball, it means they have to bend down and pick it up (mostly that is what happens). Smaller players do not have to expose their neck, they are mostly already there at the ball. They don't have to bend down as much (so they should be able to get the ball quicker). They just have to watch out for the hip and shoulder - which is practically outlawed. I watch Caleb Daniel make a mockery of his opposition. And if you watch Daniel he basically scoops the ball up with absolute ease, his low centre of gravity means that he is also very evasive, and strong through the core. Small players have advantages if they know how to use them. If this kid can play he is a good pick up. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARRISON PETTY

Adelaide had a pick inside the top 10. Then neither Adelaide or Port had another pick before we selected Petty. I suspect that is why we were able to land him. -
The Scrapping of the Bounce is Imminent
KingDingAling replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Should have gotten rid of the bounce a long time ago. Throwing it up will suit Gawn. -
Jack Trengove signed by Port Adelaide as a Delisted Free Agent

They kind of had to go for a flag. Their best players are Gray, Boak and Ryder. Not only do they owe it to those guys to give them a shot at a flag, but there is no guarantee in the future that they will be this close to a flag. -
Richmond rectified some weaknesses in their list and brought in Nankervis, Caddy and Prestia. They were also able to get improvement out of Lambert, Vlastuin and improve their depth. I don't think it was down to mindfulness but more down to shrewd list management.

Ox was a rare talent. I haven't seen anything close to Ox come through since Ox. He was going to be as good - if not better - than Carey. We were robbed of a flag him doing his knee. He was that good. If people are excited about Ox's son possibly playing for Melbourne - then they most likely seen Ox play pre-knee injury. Ox had the sort of talent that doesn't come around very often. I can understand some people not liking him, but there is no denying he was an absolute freak before his knee injury.

Hibbo and Nev Selected For International Rules
KingDingAling replied to Deemented Are Go!'s topic in Melbourne Demons
Gaelic football seems more practical than AFL. There is too many grey areas in Australian Rules Football. It is nearly unplayable. I feel for the players having the play AFL. -
All footy clubs pick duds. We have picked more than others but there is a fair element of luck to early selections. Its much like horses, we see their breeding, and we see them sit 3 wide and win in weaker fields, but we still don't know how good they are until they step up in class. That upper class level for under 18's is AFL (the ultimate weight for age). We have to pick these players and speculate how good they will be playing against the best players in the land (not boys - but men). Keeping in mind that a very large portion of the pool don't replicate their junior form in the AFL. So its not an easy job.
-
Yeah, we really went out on a limb with Petracca, LOL. FMD.
-
He would have to throw a freak. Geez he was good. Before the knee he was something else. Really unfortunate we will never know how good he could of been.
-
I hope we take Fritsch is he is available. Not impressed by any highlights of the under 18's. I don't profess to know a lot about them as I don't get to many TAC games anymore. Stopped going last year. But young Fritsch looked good at Casey and shows a decent amount of upside. I'd take a stringy lad - who has senior footy experience and upside - ahead of an unproven commodity. A lot of room for improvement.

Good info.

Garlett's skills are insane though. He is very gifted, and has tremendous goal sense. Hartung is neither gifted (skills wise) or goal conscious. Garlett is also better in close. I don't think Hartung would compliment Garlett at all. ANB would buy and sell Hartung around goal. I suspect JKH would as well (but I wouldn't go out on a limb with that). Harmes loves a goal as well.
-
I reckon that is spot on. He may be quick, but he isn't very effective. There isn't much point being quick if you are just going to turn it over. I haven't been impressed by Hartung at all. He needs to learn to use his quickness in congestion (get the ball out of a pack and run). Needs to kick better as well. I am not surprised he got delisted.

Yeah it makes the readers job easier. They are reading an opinion of someone who has a very astute eye. Considerate of me I know.
-
As someone with a very astute eye I will go out on a limb and say Ben Lennon is the best get this trade period - taking into consideration of the fact we will get him for nothing. Yes MFC, get this kid on our list FFS, can play football.
-
A contracted player. A player who may not wish to be traded. Players do have rights too you know? Are you aware of this Josh? I wish Jack Watts had of told the club to GAGF and held the club to the contract it presented him with when he signed it.
-
A big lesson for many clubs will be - keep your cards close to your chest. MFC mishandled the Watts and Lever trades. It would be more embarrassing if we were the only club to do it - but we weren't. Bulldogs mishandled the Stringer trade, and GC clearly should have kept Weller out of the media leading into their trade with Fremantle. The moment Weller suggested to the media that GC would do all they could to get him to their club - he had given away enough insight into how much GC valued him. From there on in Fremantle knew they could get pick 2. It is the little things that players disclose that gives insight into how a club may be leaning. We did the same with Watts. We should have been more discreet about Jack Watts. If we had of been upfront, open, and honest with Jack Watts from the very start, then we may have been able to run a completely different narrative - and a more positive one. Even after Watts left he club (in the circumstances that he did) he was positive to all involved. We need to learn the lesson on this one. Irrespective of whether we overpaid on other trades, and give Watts away, we need to treat our players better. I was really disappointed in Goodwin. I would be surprised if someone like Paul Roos wasn't shaking his head the way Goodwin handled Jack Watts.
-
Same. I think we have 36. Could have been 29 and 36, and still kept 31. I think the draft is weak - at least that is what I have heard off of friends who follow it intricately. But that doesn't mean there won't still be good players available at 29 on wards. We just have to find them, but I agree, I would have traded into Schache. We could then have offloaded Weideman next year if he didn't work out.
-
Apparently there is a handful of quality WA lads expected to go around the 20-30 mark this year. That would be their reasoning behind the deal, and I think it is a good one - as it takes the homesickness out of the equation. Very smart trade I think.
-
Port and Bombers have smashed trade week out of the park - especially Essendon. That is a good deal for Stringer. Credit to Dodoro, he held off until the last minute with this one. Bomber fans should be happy.
