  1. The trade to Brisbane was a god send for MFC and I am glad Matthews felt that way. I think Lethal was trying to top up his list with Brown, Black and Power still around. I think he chose poorly. I dont doubt the danger tag but he was a down hill skier that did not deliver on his talent. The answer to Matthews question about stopping is put a tag on him and make him accountable and run him around. Work a treat while TJ was at MFC.
  2. I dont think so. Correct. It seemed further back than that.
  3. Agree Fondness? Ambivalence. He was rated dangerous and at times he was but it was too few in delivery. At best he was white hot but he was a frustration with what he delivered below that. What rubbish. Trav fell foul of Trav. End of story. He came to MFC with a gameboy attitude and maturity and if anything MFC gave him far more opportunity than others would have given to make it in AFL.
  4. If you compare the way Vossy played and the way TJ plays its the exact opposite. I have no doubt in my mind that had Voss been coach of the Lions at the end of 2007, the TJ deal would not have gone ahead.
  5. The draft pick number is not the issue. He had talent but squandered it and never truly delivered on that talent at 2 Clubs. Given the criteria Clubs seem to use to select No 1 picks, I doubt whether players like TJ, JFraser and Gardiner would measure up.
  6. No it doesn't at all. TJ was recruited by Matthews and underperformed during his reign. His career is finished and he has himself to blame. Loads of talent but did not use effectively in 13 years of football. 45HG16, clearing TJ was a KOTD moment for MFC. It was the correct decision by MFC and should have happened sooner. TJ's demise has been coming for at least 2 years.
  7. The ICC wont get tough. It has had plenty of opportunity and reason to over the past 15 years and hasnt. The ICC is a lacky of the South Asian nations headed by India. Unless India decides to change the culture of nepotism, corruption and lack of governance over its top Government/ cricket officials then the ICC and World Cricket is doomed. Not only is India the financial elephant in the game of cricket, it also bankrolls Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket. Theres a block of 4 votes that are at India's disposal then you have Zimbabwe . While they allow betting on micro events in cricket matches, the game is stuffed and cannot be immune from fixing of outcomes or the destruction of the integirty of performers.
  8. Agree. Wilson won a B'low and was a dangerous midfielder/ forward. FMD, some people are hard to satisfy. Steve Icke was a gutsy, mobile CHB who put a number of good seasons in at MFC. Alan Jarrott was a fringe player who played a few serviceable games for MFC. Hell, you can buy alot worse than that....and MFC often did. Did he come with big wraps??? He played in the 1973 GF (1st game) but was never a premiership player. Won a Gardner and Morrish Medal which highlights where his best footy was played.
  9. Yep. Lord Byron is here. Trevor Spencer from Essendon in the 1979s/80s was supposed to be a gun KPF for MFC. Ugh.
  10. You were making a statement for the record which was hardly notable considering another 57 posters have said for the past few months. I would not make a big point of it. It was hardly out of left field. What else is on your mind?
  11. Good pick up. Then again I had no big expectations when they recruited him. The same would apply to Ditterich as to Templeton. Big Carl was paid a fortune in those days to come to MFC. He turned up to pre season training fat and overweight for those days and played like it. Coming back as coach he was a player who coached by example but hardly by strategy. His best footy was at the Saints. They were established fringe players by the time they got to MFC with the exception of Wayne Gordon who I thought was serviceable without being outstanding. Poor bloke died from cancer about 20 years ago while still young, For Glenn Elliott...add his brothers Bruce and Robert. Yep. Although he needs to back it up in 2011.
  12. Tingay was outstanding in 1994 and 1998 and it was no coincidence we made the finals in those years and Stinga was an important cog in that. I saw him do rehab training during his injured years and if there was a guy that worked at his fitness to get back to top line footy it was Stinger.
  13. Gilbert never hurt us. We swapped him to Freo for Farmer. GOLD And Greg Doyle as well?? I didnt have high expectations on a shortish VFA ruckman making it.
  14. Lamb was slow and his decision making suspect under pressure. MFC did hold onto Lamb for too long though. Watts is already better than David Cordner. B)
  15. The big disappointment to me from the 1980's Ray Jordan squad besides David Cordner was John Fidge. As a red head 18 year old I thought he had it all. Fast. could, kick well, take a grab. He put in a couple of brilliant performances and I thought we had one here. He never cashed in on his ability whether through injury or attitude. He got trucked off to the Bris Bears where he did a couple of cameos at Carrera and disappeared. Pity.
  16. So was I in regard to his pre season and his efforts after returning from injury late in that year. Some good but definitely some bad there.
  17. Cheney shafted?? You're kidding. Cheney was not going to get a regular gig at MFC being about 2 or 3 in rank to get a defensive role in the 22. We did him a favour trading him and he has a chance with his future. Had we not done so we would have really shafted him by playing him at Casey. Hardly worth stating that because I think the consensus is very much that way unless he turns it around.
  18. Pickett arrived at pre season fat and unfit. Had a brief flurry of form then got injured then returned to slothful ways. His failure to attend a match as an emergency due to night before issues in his last season was an appalling slap in the face to his teammates he should have been sacked for it. At Carlton and North, Crosswell was at times a star player. At MFC he was a shadow of that player.
  19. Yep. He was a punt when he came to MFC. Loads of talent but loads of issues. He did have one fantastic game at the G where he kicked 7 and starred. Good get and of course how could he be forgotten. I think he did an ACL in the game after the six goals. Injury killed it for him. Yes. Lacked pace and his skills got found out at the higher level. I thought after a couple of good seasons, Greg Healy plateaued as a footballer. Leigh Newton did a knee badly and it finished him. Did not have the opportunity of Juice 2. One more for books....Craig Turley
  20. Good pick up there. He was the U19 star who kicked 100+goals and looked like our answer up forward (Deja vu methinks) Unfortunately, could not cope with the phyisical aspect of AFL and just disappeared. The most memorable thing I recall Beams doing was getting injured against Collingwood in the third qtr that allowed the Wiz to come on and kick 8 in one of the most amzing cameos I have seen. I actually thought Duursma exceeded expectations given he was a 3 Club journeyman who played above himself in 1988. Robert Walters was a medium sized marking forward with a good kick. Had a couple of days out but did nothing after that. Went to Collingwood and got in trouble with the law. What is it with that Club?
  21. The list is long and there have been many. And it all started with Diamond Jim Tilbrook for me. Tilbrook Ditterich Templeton Crosswell Ger Healy Warren Dean Luke Molan Nick Smith Scott Thompson Trav Johnstone Brock McLean ....for starters Its hard call on Cuthbertson. He was no star on arrival. He debuted in the No 48 guernsey after some good games in the ressie. Starred early where he used his one or two tricks well but got found out at VFL/AFL level and withered away. Full credit for his early games.
  22. Injury has cruelled any exhibition of his talents and what I saw at Casey were small cameos that dont justify some of the over the top comments here. I hope he makes big improvements in his fitness and his performance.
  23. Posters believe that player performances in an end of season overseas jolly augur well for the following season which is atill 5 months away
  24. Mine too. Seeing Ben Johnson's drug induced bulging shoulders and biceps was ominous of the sporting disasters to happen on that day I have blotted out most of the rest. A complete let down. Not surprising given the opposition and the heavy PF game the week before. It rained before the start of the game and I was soaked. That didn't help either.
