CASEY: Rd 08 vs North Melbourne
I don't know about others, but when I'm watching Casey games, I'm looking at how a players' performance translates at AFL level. All the observations about Weid were fair. He's still not strong at the contest. His second efforts are poor. Why do you think that Tmac has been preferred? Anyone who watched the game would have come away thinking that JVR is more worthy of promotion than Weid.

CASEY: Rd 08 vs North Melbourne
The commentator made a really good observation of JVR. He engages in the contest early and has the strength to hold his ground. He's also capable at ground level. He's going to be a star, and IMO he'd have a greater impact at AFL level this year than Weid. Should BBB get injured, or Tmac loses form, JVR should be next in line.

CASEY: Rd 08 vs North Melbourne
Only 5 North listed players playing compared to 13 Dees listed. Casey should romp it in. Some observations based on how their game translates to AFL level: Dunstan - A class above. JVR - Super impressive in the air. Always in the right position when flying for marks. Set up 2 goals at ground level also. Was beaten twice by Marty Hore at ground level in a one-on-one contest. Daw - If Max gets injured, Majak is ready to to go. He's getting around the ground fine. Weid - Is playing well, but has been out-positioned in marking contests on occasions. He doesn't have the presence of T Mac, or JVR for that matter. Bedford - Nice to see him starting in the midfield. Getting excellent service from Daw and Bell. Has been good, but not a standout. Tomlinson - Of the senior players, he's been the most disappointing. Playing loose man in the backline, he's racking up huge possessions, but defensively he's been poor. I've seen him caught out of position 4 times, two of which resulted in North goals. Then got caught holding the ball resulting in another goal. Baker - VFL level only. Of the kids, Turner has impressed. Woey and McVee look ok. Laurie, Rosman and Smith have been quiet. Shoutout to the commentators. Best VFL callers this year.

Jake Bell would be a perfect player to have on our list as a developing ruckman. His skills are really good.

Majak Daw dominating the ruck against Monkhurst.

The very, very contentious 50 for Dissent Rule
Correct. Every week we see numerous examples of players questioning a decision, and the umpire seems fine with explaining it. Just goes to prove what a nob Brad Scott is for bringing in the strict interpretation of dissent, and how idiotic he came across when he tried to justify it.

TEAMS: Rd 09 vs West Coast
Their spine of Barrass, McGovern, Kelly, Darling, Kennedy is impressive on paper. They're not missing many from their best 22. NicNat, Yeo, Shuey, Rioli, Allen and Cripps are the only ones that come to mind. As Goody says, you need to respect the opposition. It wasn't long ago that opposition supporters would have been mocking our line-up.

Angus Brayshaw Re-Signs Until 2028
Viney, and it's not close.

Angus Brayshaw Re-Signs Until 2028
Maybe it's more than a coincidence that the compensation pick that we got for Frawley was used to acquire Brayshaw. Spooky hey? BTW, I totally disagree with your logic. We're in premiership mode, not list rebuilding mode, as we were when Frawley departed.

Gawn Knee Concerns
There is a mid-season bye for players to have a rest. The club isn't about managing players. They are either fit to play or not.

Where does Gus play when Salem returns?
I just had a look at Time On Ground percentages of our small/medium sized defenders, and Rivers is significantly the lowest: Hunt 86% Bowey 78% Rivers 72%

Gawn Knee Concerns
I have seen Daw. Have you seen the West Coast ruckmen? I'd back Daw in this week.

That's not true. It was May who said that they should ice the rest of the qtr. It came out in the recent docos.

POSTGAME: Rd 08 vs St Kilda
I have a historical hatred of Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton and Richmond, but I currently hate the Bulldogs and Cats the most for the reasons above. I can't condone Oliver's blatant flop, and he deserves to be called out for it. It's a blight on the game, and sports like basketball and soccer penalise the floppers with either tech fouls or yellow cards.

Where does Gus play when Salem returns?
Based on form, Gus remains down back and Salem replaces Rivers. Hunt has done some great jobs on small forwards, and deserves to retain his spot. JJ has also been excellent on the wing.

Membership Tally 2022
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Perth people took up the "Adopt The Dees" so they could access GF tickets. I reckon I saw more Dees scarves on GF night than any of our home games this year. It will be interesting to see how many Dees supporters we see at Optus this week. The way the Eagles are going, some may jump ship permanently.

COACHES VOTES: Round 8, 2022
That's why Gus has moved to the backline. His contract renewal has gone up an extra 100k pa. 😁

Gawn Knee Concerns
Daw was brought to the club as insurance if Max went down. From what I've seen, Daw has dominated at Casey, so if fit, deserves his chance. He'd be up against WAFL standard ruckmen, and I believe he'd dominate. Daw could be spend 60% game time as no.1 ruck, and no time resting up forward. Jackson would spend 40% as a ruckman, and 30% time as 2nd ruck/forward. I hate flirting with form, and I don't think that the Brown, T. Mac, Weid forward line works, even with Weid playing backup ruckman.

Tag Em All
It makes sense to tag Langdon between the 50m arcs because that's where he's most damaging. But Robbo needs to realise that Oliver and Petracca are generally manned up at stoppages, but their talent is in winning stoppages. Add Viney to the mix as well. If we win the stoppages, we dominate time in our forward 50, and we have time to set up our defensive structures. And we generally win stoppages with fewer numbers around the ball. Back to the drawing board Robbo.

Is David Noble the new Mark Neeld?
100% agree. I think some of sh*tcanning that Neeld gets on here is unwarranted. Grant Thomas reported at the time that Neeld had lost the players before rd 1 of his first year. Most of us thought that Grant Thomas was being a headline seeker. In hindsight, Thomas must have had a source within the playing group. If that was the case, yes Neeld must have had man management issues, but it's also an indictment on the playing group at the time.

Is David Noble the new Mark Neeld?
I actually think North have got a core of good young talent, and they'll be fine in a couple of years. Thomas, LDU, JHF, Simpkin, Powell, Stephenson, Larkey, Zurhaar, Xerri, Phillips are all under 25. The problem for North is they are rudderless, and that falls on Noble. Obviously they miss their only true on-field leader in Cunnington. But somehow Noble has managed to lose the playing group after promising signs last year. The media will hound Noble, which is what they do to all new coaches who are struggling. Whether Noble can ride out the storm is the question. Personally, I think the club needs to come out in support of him, and stay the course.

TEAMS: Rd 08 vs St. Kilda
I agree, and I'm not questioning his omission. But from his own perspective, I'm sure Dunstan would have loved to play against his old side.
-
TEAMS: Rd 08 vs St. Kilda
Feel for Dunstan the most. Thought he's been good in both games, and playing against his old side. No surprise that Tmac was preferred to Weid. Despite what some may think, we are not picking the team based on age. Weid isn't getting gifted a game because he's younger than TMac.
