We've got a number of docs and medico's on staff that all sit behind Burgess, but Brukner is a massive get, his experience in the sports medicine field is nearly unmatched. No matter how big/small his role this is great for the club. Have a look at his resume if you want to know more. https://www.peterbrukner.com/

The secret sauce is no stars, so no players who they've developed themselves who deserve good $$$ so they go out and pay a fortune for others. At least 10 of their best 22 come from other clubs, don't think there's ever been any premiership winners with anywhere near that amount of recycling

Think the Suns would be trying to force him to sign on for 1 year prior to the PSD, just using the threat of them picking him up then holding him to the 2 year contract, otherwise he'll find himself locked in their for those 2 years and going through the same process next trade period. Would work for the Suns because surely a player wouldn't sit out or play badly when that much money is on the line?
-
Both spot on, but GC might call is bluff and say they'll definitely select him no matter the price, in which I'm sure he'd then alter the contract length down to get out of there in a year. Carlton are still in the box seat, clearly they had a heap of money set aside for both Martin and Papley. It's just a thought that's running around at the moment that GC would be best to try and keep him for a year then cash in on the draft pick they'd get.
-
There is some thought that GC will select him in the PSD, put him on a 1 year contract, then he becomes a restricted free agent at the end of 2020. They'll then get a 1st round compo pick, due to what Carlton are offering him and knowing the AFL will look after them. Wouldn't matter if he plays most of the year in the NEAFL, or if he's a true pro they'll get another year out of him. Good chance GC will hold onto him, unless his wage demands are just too ridiculous, which is why I think we're being counted out.

Manager's get paid a % of earnings so he'll push him towards the team who's going to pay Martin the most. Self interest is very evident with most player manager's

What to do with what is now Pick 74?
Red and Blue realist replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Will be used to upgrade one of the rookies, Lockhart or Dunkley maybe? Opens up another spot on the rookie list while keeping a very low paid player on the senior list - no real difference between the rookie and senior list now anyway but if we go to the draft with 3 & 8 we need to use that pick. -
If the GC are serious about pushing Keath into the PSD, then that'd rule them out from taking him back (although i don't think they want him anyway, just want a high pick for him). If he landed in our lap then that'd be great but I don't think on his output he's worth anywhere near what they are asking in a trade.

Where only helping them to help ourselves, hence why they have to include significant other assets to make the move. We hold the power in this one.
-
If we're looking at a player, I'd say it'll come from the list of those younger guys coming out of contract at the end of next year, with Whitfield, Williams and Cameron taking big $ next year they might might have to offload someone like - Caldwell, Hately, O'Halloran, Perryman, Zac Langdon or Cumming, as they won't be able to keep them anyway. From that list the last 3 are all on more than rookie contracts so they'd be the most likely to move now to free up some cap, moving any of this years draftees won't help at all this year because there already on minimum payments. It's why they are trying to move on Bonar, he's contracted beyond his rookie contract but stuck behind a few.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON

We've now only got picks 3, 26 and 50? I suspect there's more to play out! -
WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ED LANGDON

Good deal I reckon, is it our future 2nd or the Hawks? -
I actually see 2nd round picks next year as being very valuable, there's a heap of academy and father son kids next year, so we should be able to bundle up the 2 2nds (if we don't trade them for Langdon) for something pretty valuable either this year or next. We also got something for a player we don't want, that's always good.
-
Makes it a near certainty that we'll only be offering up a future 2nd for Langdon, we've only got 3, 22, 50 & 79 so we'd be barley be able to bring in the required amount of players for the year. I'd be guessing that we could also bundle up next years 2 seconds and pass them onto a club requiring points for all the academy/FS selections nexy year. Maybe our 2 2020 2nds for the dogs 1st this year, or something similar.
-
If you use the calculator and overlay with this years results for future picks then we're essentially getting a 3rd rounder for Frost.
-
This is the deal I'd be looking at if they are only offering Bonar. Maybe even pick 3 plus our 3rd for 6, 2020 1st and Bonar. I'd then be chatting to the Dogs about swapping either our or GWS 2020 1st for their 1st this year. The Dogs have a gun academy kid next year so will be making move to get extra points for 2020. We could then potentially hit the draft with 7 plus 14/15 (both likely to be moved down 1 or 2 spots with academy picks - Green for sure, maybe if we get those picks we tell Freo we'll bid on Henry early and they then accept a future 2nd for Langdon instead of this years!) and still have a first round next year.
-
Maybe we'd look at moving pick 3 to 6, if GWS offer up some other reasonable assets. They've only got picks 40 and 60 which are worth 575 points. If we bid on Green at 3, that would move their pick 6 back to around pick 33 or so (exluding other picks they might get for other deals Patton Bonar etc.). Still a fair leverage point I'd think.
-
We're not splitting with GWS anymore!
-
Combine testing is on at the moment, so I'd say the list manager would be there. Director of footy probably indicates more about trying to sell the club and comparing it to others. Good chance to come is what I've heard, we'll know by the end of Saturday.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - HARLEY BENNELL
Red and Blue realist replied to Tinks's topic in Melbourne Demons
The big question should be, IS he still a super talent? We all know that Jack Trengove was a super talent until injury interrupted his career and he never got to his early levels again. I wouldn't be drafting Bennell until he'd had a decent training block, so the supplementary period at the earliest. -
I'd be guessing that's the exact reason why we fronted the commission right after the Suns. I'm sure the conversation went something along the lines of - "we're giving the Suns pick 1 (plus bucket loads more) but we're giving you X". What X is we might not know for a long time or it might remain hidden in the background, but we'll be getting something as well.
-
So comparing the 2 potential offers for pick 3 (allowing for 2 potential academy & F/S bids before pick 15): GWS have 13 & 21 - so would have to offer up either players or future picks, but they have academy kids coming through next year as well. GC have 17 & 22 - and don't really have any players they could attach, so would either need additional picks this or next year. Maybe that was why they got give the mid first next year, so it's on-traded? Hopefully it just means GWS have to put up a better player.
-
And yet you compared him with Lewis earlier in the thread, when Lewis played a fair bit of this year as a lock down forward. Why does every player have to be compared to ANB as well? Billy got a heap of opportunity to show what he could do in his best spot, is say there's a chance we might rookie him if the suns don't, but he's had a lot of chances to own the position we're clearly trying to fill this trade period.

List changes who do we cut, trade or go after.

No matter how much talent you have there's still a massive amount of luck needed! -

Spot on, but had they made massive wholesale changes to their playing personnel would they have been able to make those other adjustments? It's A lot easier to make game plan changes when the team are already very familiar with each other.
