  1. After 7 years in the cheer squad, in 1970 I started uni and didn't get back to going to games until 1984, partly because I'd moved to the Surfcoast. I met Mick Pierce who worked as a ski instructor at Buller. He informed me that he was one of the four (? maybe two) holding up the run through for the '64 GF. I think Mick was taller than the run through.
  2. There was a passage in the last quarter I think, possibly directly after Lever had punched the ball over the boundary, with Lever and May were both in the frame, both pointing and telling other defenders where to position themselves. As good as Salem, Tomlinson, Petty etc are, you need talented, experienced leaders who are vocal. Jordan Lewis played a similar role in his short stint with us.
  3. I reported elsewhere that Jayden had planned to try a run last Tuesday. I (and he) was wrong. He was aiming to go for a run today.
  4. I was 13 and seated in the lower section of the old Northern stand. Ray Gabelich took his three bounces right in front of me. I'd joined the cheer squad 2 years earlier. Great memories with MT as president. Some of us were responsible for the banners. Mine was The Never Say Die Demons. I'd get the first train (4:15am) from Parkdale, or sleep at the ground. We never slept at Vic Park or Windy Hill (too dangerous). When the Saints moved to Linton Street we made a bonfire from some of the pickets we pulled off the new fence. The Saints cheer squad invited us to join them for the night in the St Johns Ambulance room. Quite an eyeopener for a young boy with the stretchers getting quite a workout with Saints and Dees supporters fraternising. Hassa Mann was my favourite player and I had a banner with his name on it. Great memories. PS a shout out to Dobbo and Ken Saw
  5. You might want to view (again?) Open Mike featuring Robbie on Youtube. Humble is an understatement.
  6. We can only hope that Clarry achieves two awards that Robbie didn't - a premiership medal and a Brownlow medal. BTW I'll go to my grave with memories of two of my idols, RDB and Robbie.
  7. Chook is correct. I don't want to derail this thread, but in case you haven't seen this you'll quickly see both Clarry and Robbie are/were elite in different ways.
  8. Is Goodwin the right guy? Hell yeah.
  9. Trac being interviewed on Ch 7. In tears.
  10. No Eagles defence
  11. Liions in.
  12. Last Lion's goal increased their percentage by 0.4 in case you missed it.
  13. Another Lion's goal and Dogs out (or very close)
  14. Jayden Hunt is progressing far quicker than anticipated and will commence running tomorrow.
  15. M_9 posted a topic in Melbourne Demons
I hope Gerard asks him about Bradshaw's (sic) game yesterday.
  16. Just looking at the 12 top ranked Cats players (AFL site) only two, Cam Guthrie and Menegola, are under 30 years of age. Guthrie is 28 and Menegola is 29. Scott will be praying for that bye.
  17. Round 22 1990 v St Kilda. "Daniher revealed on radio the day Sheeds swapped him with his brother Terry in the closing stages at Princes Park. Trailing by four goals in time on, the half back flanker moved forward and kicked the last two goals to see the Bombers home by a point. “I know why Sheeds did it, my brother Terry wasn’t getting a kick,” Daniher joked. “I said to Kevin at three quarter time, how long are you going to put up with this, any danger of getting Terry out of there? “We finally got him out of there and I went forward, we crossed over and I said to Terry, about time.”
  18. BEST: Geelong: Menegola, Dangerfield, Blicavs, C.Guthrie, Higgins, Selwood. Ages: 29.5, 31.4, 30.4, 28.11, 33.5, 33.2 Better players missing include Tom Stewart (28.5) Zac Tuohy (31.8) and Mitch Duncan (30.2). BTW Hawkins (33.1), Cameron (28.4) and Smith 32.7) Little, if any, young talent coming through.
  19. I can't see how you can leave Gawn out.
  20. Won $140 on the back of a $10 8-leg same game multi. Had Friiita for 2 or more goals. Geez, what I would have collected had I had him for 7 or more.
  21. Back at the 'G next Sat according to Tom Morris ?? (forget his name)
  22. I may be letting the cat out of the bag, but I can tell you that Jayden has damaged his syndesmosis ligament, typically a 6-8 week recovery period. Both Noah Balta and Nathan Broad have missed 6 weeks with the same injury. Slight chance Jayden will return this season.
  23. I found it hard to watch Eddie pour his heart out on AFL 360 tonight. For those who didn't see it he was close to tears and said it had just worn him down. I thought Eddie said that Kosi had told him he'd been subjected to racist comments numerous times this year. I may misinterpreted that.
  24. Ch 10 news saying TMac never left the gym today. Unlikely to start.
