  12. That’s a howler. 😱
  13. They went yesterday
  14. I have no problem with the concept of Opening Round. They just should called it Round 1.
  15. Interesting. Did any other Demon listed players put on a yellow bib? Eg: Tholstrup?
  16. Some updates on the injury front filling in the blanks above. Turner (stress fracture leg) 10-12 weeks Melbourne have also noted that Angus Brayshaw (illness), Taj Woewodin(concussion) and Andy Moniz-Wakefield(thigh) won't feature in Sunday's match simulation. The Demons are already without the likes of Ben Brown (knee) and Tom Fullarton(hamstring) for the start of the 2024 season.
  17. Some updates on the injury front Melbourne defender Daniel Turner is set to miss a large portion of the 2024 season after suffering a stress fracture in his leg. The Demons confirmed on Saturday that the 22-year-old will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks after sustaining the femur injury during the pre-season. Turner has dealt with hand and facial injuries during his time with the Demons to play just three games over the past two seasons. Melbourne football boss Alan Richardsonsaid the key defender's latest setback was an unfortunate result. “Daniel has unfortunately sustained a stress fracture in his femur,” Richardson said in a club update. “This will see him miss quite a significant block, with his return-to-play timeline being 10 to 12 weeks. “While this news is really disappointing, we know the type of person and athlete Daniel is, and expect him to attack his rehab with a positive and determined mindset over the coming weeks.” Fellow key position Demon Harrison Pettywill miss his club's first pre-season meeting with Richmond this weekend due to toe soreness. The new ailment will keep Petty sidelined for the time being, with the club hopeful the defender-turned-forward can be fit prior to their Opening Round clash with Sydney. “Harrison has been experiencing some soreness in his toe, which has meant he hasn't been able to build up his training loads as we would've liked,” Richardson added. “He won't play on Sunday, but we will continue to monitor him in the lead up to our practice match against Carlton.” New recruit Shane McAdam remains sidelined with a calf issue he recently sustained at training, with the Demons having to rule out the medium-sized forward for Sunday's clash at Casey Fields as well. Richardson said the club will be patient in their approach with McAdam. “Shane has some ongoing tightness in his calf, and we have made the decision to take a conservative approach,” Richardson said. “He is going to be such an important player for us, so we don't want to be risking anything at this stage of the pre-season.” Melbourne have also noted that Angus Brayshaw (illness), Taj Woewodin(concussion) and Andy Moniz-Wakefield(thigh) won't feature in Sunday's match simulation. The Demons are already without the likes of Ben Brown (knee) and Tom Fullarton(hamstring) for the start of the 2024 season. Melbourne host Richmond at Casey Fields on Sunday morning before a second pre-season match with Carlton. Their first game proper of 2024 will come at the SCG on Thursday, March 7 against the Swans.
  18. Only reason people are positing that he plays in the seconds is based on who he trained with this morning.
  19. MATCH SIM SQUADS: Dees' shock Clarry call, Tiger returns MELBOURNE has named Clayton Oliver for its match simulation against Richmond on Sunday despite the star midfielder only rejoining his teammates for pre-season training three weeks ago, while Tigers young gun Josh Gibcus will have his first serious hitout since the 2022 elimination final. The action at Casey Fields on Sunday will be played across seven periods, with the number of players taking part up to the clubs involved. It means it's not clear how much Oliver will take part in the action, but it's likely the star midfielder will be on limited minutes given his interrupted summer. After battling injuries and medical issues for most of last season and facing questions over his off-field behaviour during a tumultuous Trade Period, Oliver took extended leave from the club in December to focus on his personal wellbeing and only returned to training in the rehab group on January 31. Gibcus hasn't been seen since his eye-catching debut season in 2022 when he played 18 games after being selected at pick No.9 in the 2021 AFL Draft. The young Tiger's complex hamstring tendon injury required surgery early last year and eventually resulted in a trip to an internationally renowned sports medicine practice in Qatar during the off-season. Melbourne defender-turned-forward Harrison Petty, who missed the finals last year due to a Lisfranc injury, suffered a fresh setback this week with a toe injury keeping him out of the match sim, while winger Lachie Hunter will also miss due to a persistent calf issue. Angus Brayshaw won't play as he continues to integrate back into full training following the concussion injury he sustained in the qualifying final last year, while Ben Brown (knee) Tom Fullarton (hamstring) and Jake Melksham (knee) will also miss due to injury. Charlie Spargo, Shane McAdam and Tom McDonald are notable absentees from the squad. Richmond will also be without a host of big names for the clash including skipper Toby Nankervis, former co-captain Dylan Grimes, midfield trio Dion Prestia, Dustin Martin, and Tim Taranto as well as forward Tom Lynch. Grimes (calf), Martin (ankle) and Prestia (hamstring) are all expected to feature in the Tigers' AFL Community Series match against Collingwood on Tuesday, February 27, while Lynch (foot) has only just returned to the main group and isn't expected to play until round one after being ruled out of the Tigers' Opening Round clash against Gold Coast. Nankervis is managing a sore foot but isn't considered in any doubt for Opening Round at this stage. East Perth forward Mitch Schofield and New Zealander Mykelti Lefau will both get one final chance to impress for a spot on the rookie list in the practice match against the Demons. The pair joined the club when the pre-season supplemental selection period opened on November 27 and have completed the full program across the pre-season. AFL-listed players Hugo Ralphsmith, Judson Clarke, Matthew Coulthard, Noah Cumberland, Oliver Hayes-Brown and Kaleb Smith have been named in Richmond's 'B' squad to play in the second half of the match. Sunday's match simulation will be broadcast live on Fox Footy, available on Kayo Sports and Foxtel. Gates open at 9.30am with the match to start at 10am. Entry is free. The eight other club-arranged match simulations will be played between February 21-24, with the format, including the length of quarters or periods and squad sizes, determined by the clubs involved. Following the match sims, all 18 clubs will play official practice games in the AFL Community Series between February 27 and March 3. 21. I know it is only a practice match (well only if we lose) but it's never too early to peek over the fence and see what they're saying at Microwave Park. Could get ugly What do you mean could? Kinda feel sorry for Melbourne fans who may have to deal with an ugly loss this weekend after their tumultuous off-season last year we looked terrible in the praccies and were terrible in the real stuff. When we changed our gameplan in the 17 pre season we looked really good in the praccys. Interested to see how shite we look. if we win we will rocket to unbackable premiership favourites, if we loose we'll be merging with norf. Win this and I can’t see us loosing another game Where da * is Duzzy? The GOAT don't get up before 10am Sunday mornings in February
