  1. It has never been my intention to make money from this site. My intention was always for this site to be a place where Demons fans could come to discuss their beloved club. Having said that over the years mounting costs associated with running and maintaining this site have made me seek donations from users in order to help pay for those costs. I have never wanted to take any money away from the club and I have never wanted to have sponsors that are either in competition with or are viewed as being associated with the club by virtue of being sponsors of Demonland. This is not fair to the club and not fair to the sponsors of the club who pay good $$$ to be associated with the club. As the club has no control over the content of this site they can't appear to condone or support the site and I would assume that this would include splashing the current sponsors logos on the site. In the past I have made offers to the club to put up any sponsorship that they want onto the site for free but have never heard back from them in this regard. Anyway, a web hosting company eWorld generously host this site for free which is a huge help in cutting the costs of running the site. As a favour to them we have a non intrusive and subtle sponsorship ad at the bottom of the homepage (as per their request) of a company associated with the owner of our web hosting company. Please visit Melbourne Accomodation next time you visit Melbourne. They offer hotels, motels, resorts & holiday apartment accommodation from the Melbourne and the greater Victorian region. They have discounted all accommodation on their site exclusively for people coming to Melbourne. So feel free to use their search wizard to find the best accommodation at the Lowest Guaranteed Rate.

  5. A LONG, LONG WAY TO GO by William from the West The game of football starts at the centre bounce where the two big ruckmen vie against each other to get the ball down to their on ball players who, in turn, attempt to move the ball forward to their team's advantage. It goes without saying that when one team establishes superiority and wins consistently at these stoppages it moves a long way towards winning the game. That's what happened yesterday evening at Subiaco where Fremantle established its dominance from the very beginning against a substandard, inexperienced opposition in Melbourne and literally toyed with it throughout the game to record a comfortable 47 point win. The Demons brought a young side across the Nullarbor and pitted rookie ruckman Jake Spencer against seasoned two time All Australian Aaron Sandilands. The young Demon tall toiled hard till he suffered a hip injury in the third quarter but was monstered by the 211cm behemoth. At their feet, the Fremantle players took advantage of this dominance and the fact that the Demon midfield was poorly set up at many contests. As a consequence, they were often allowed easy passages out of the packs and accordingly put the Melbourne defence under pressure for most of the proceedings. In general play, the Demons fumbled, dropped marks, made poor decisions and showed the same lack of skills that has been evident for the past two or three years. The writing was on the wall early in the game when Melbourne had two opportunities up forward in the opening minutes and failed to register a score. At about the four minute mark Brent Moloney had the ball on a wing and, seeing only contests further afield, elected to kick backwards to Jamie Bennell. The kick was astray and rolled harmlessly away from Bennell's outstretched hands and out of bounds for a net loss of forty metres. You could already see the first sign of confidence slipping and within minutes the home side started putting the score on the board, helped by a couple of fifty metre penalties, each of which stopped the momentum of a Demon forward drive dead in its tracks. The experienced players of Freo then led the way and their younger brigade lifted in response. Melbourne mounted a rearguard effort in the second quarter and performed much better. Brad Green who was quiet early lifted the side with a supergoal and that was followed by another from Aaron Davey who was rarely sighted and subbed off at half time. The gap should have been narrowed further when Liam Jurrah, who was having a dog of game, accepted a pass and uncharacteristically missed. Fremantle's dominance was restored by a questionable after the siren nine pointer that knocked the stuffing out of the visitors. The Dockers dominated most of the second half. They were able to score as needed while the Demon forward line was non-existent. Were there any positives? Well, a few players worked hard and showed some value - James Frawley, Nathan Jones, James McDonald and Brisbane discard Joel Macdonald. Youngsters in Tom Scully, Jack Trengove and James Strauss all showed glimpses of a far away future and Jordie McKenzie was good when he came on after half time. And that was about it. The Demons came a long way across the Nullarbor. They have a long, long way to go. 8. Not unless you want to continue posting here. It is illegal and I would prefer that the AFL doesn't shut us down.
  9. Discussion of peer to peer file sharing and live streaming of copy righted material is strictly forbidden and will result in a warning for 1st offence and banning for 2nd offence.
  10. I think you've misunderstood. It appears as if the AFL have made this lineup and just listed the first 22 numbers and put them into position. Obviously Melbourne have not given them the lineup and i'm sure Scully, Rivers and McDonald will be playing. Well almost. The seemed to have missed these four: 26 Joel Macdonald 27 Jared Rivers 31 Tom Scully 34 Stefan Martin They also missed: 39 Neville Jetta 42 Jake Spencer 47 James Strauss
  11. Looks like they have listed the team in numerical order and put them in the positions. I don't think it's the "real" lineup. Certainly Cheney is not rucking and Bell is not Full forward.
  12. Found it. http://xml.afl.com.au/swf/live_stats.htm?gameID=10270108
  13. Link? I can't seem to find it on the AFL site or the Dees Official site. The only teamsheet I found is the squad with player numbers and not the position lineup. http://www.afl.com.a...&fixtureid=5426
  14. Yep. That was going to be my next tip.

  16. NO BUGS AT CASEY by KC from Casey Like their AFL partner, the Casey Scorpions will be hoping that the injury bug which in many ways derailed its season in 2009 stays far away in 2010. A little over a month out from last year's finals the Scorpions were the form team of the competition, sitting in the top four after a string of good victories. They were even being considered as the danger team to the then flag favourites Williamstown and North Ballarat. However, a run of injuries both at Melbourne and within the ranks at Casey intervened and ultimately, the team missed out on the double chance. The injury-depleted remnant with only one senior AFL listed player plus a rookie was easily bundled out by a full strength Collingwood team in an elimination final and the only silver lining was the fact that a number of young players called in to fill the void gained invaluable senior experience that would not normally have been so readily open to them. With the first practice game against neighbours, the Frankston Dolphins, still four weeks away there are some injury worries in the air but hopefully, these fears will have been allayed with the approach of the new season. The club's number one recruit, high flying Scott Simpson who spent two years on Geelong's AFL Senior List, is still experiencing problems with an ankle injury that caused the early curtailment to his 2009 season. New Casey senior coach Brad Gotch is quoted in this week's Inside Football as saying that there may still be a fracture in the bone that was supposed to be repairing and that Simpson was still sore and "shattered". Another goalkicking forward, former De La Salle star Matt Moore who impressed with the Scorpions early last year before breaking down with a knee injury, is also reported to be struggling with his rehabilitation. The good news is that the club has seen the arrival of some promising new forward line talent. The leading TAC Cup goalkicker from 2009, Luke McDonald from the Eastern Ranges, comes to the club after booting 63 goals and being named at full forward in that competition's Team of the Year alongside Tom Scully, Dustin Martin, Ben Cunnington, Gary Rohan, John Butcher and a number of other AFL dratees. Last year the 195cm tall McDonald was an over-age player who also finished equal third in the TAC Cup Coaches Award and he was touted as a potential draftee at various times during the season. He turns 20 in April and is primed to make an early impression in VFL ranks. McDonald is joined by another Eastern suburbs key forward in the versatile Cam Purdy from East Ringwood who has been impressive at training and showed out recently when, as one of the Casey "top up" players in Melbourne's intra club game, he was confused by some attendees with injured Demon youngster Jack Watts. Another highly regarded recruit from the east is 22 year old ex-Magpie rookie Danny Nicholls from Rowville. Originally with the Dandenong Stingrays, Nicholls had one AFL game when he appeared as a rover for Collingwood against the West Coast Eagles at Subiaco in 2007 and he is reportedly "keen to again have an impact at VFL level." Gotch coached him for a couple of years at Williamstown during the time when the Seagulls were aligned with the Magpies. Another player with impressive credentials is left footed midfielder Matt Fieldsend from De La Salle who tied for the best and fairest in VAFA A Section last year. He was outstanding in the early part of Melbourne's intra club game at Casey Fields last week. The Gippsland Falcons TAC Cup club has proven to be a fertile recruiting ground. Included in this year's crop are: * Mitch Dowse - 175cm 73kg from last year's Gippsland Falcons list via Heyfield, he was selected to play one game for the Scorpions under the 23rd player rule and impressed, kicking a goal. * Dean Woodhead - 192cm 87kg from Drouin and the Gippsland Falcons * Chris Wylie - 196cm 88kg tall recruited from Poowong and the Gippsland Falcons who also played a game for Casey under the 23rd player rule. Also from the TAC Cup system are Will Petropolous, a 173cm 74kg Noble Park lad recruited this year from Dandenong Stingrays and Mark Weekes from Oakleigh Chargers via Mazenod while Cade Maskell from Korumburra Bena in the Alberton FL. The club's major losses are Fremantle rookie Alex Silvagni and Peter Faulks who has followed Peter German to Williamstown. Both are key defenders who will be definitely be sorely missed. There are however, sufficient numbers of quality players available to the new coach to have most observers convinced that, injury (or should I say lack thereof) permitting, Casey will be well to the forefront when the new season gets under way in April. 2010 Practice Matches - All matches at Casey Fields Sunday 14th March Casey Scorpions v Frankston Reserves 11.10am, Seniors 2pm Friday 19th March Casey Scorpions v Northern Bullants Seniors 4.30pm, Reserves 7pm Saturday 26th March Casey Scorpions v Bendigo Bombers * Seniors 1pm * Bendigo will not be fielding a reserves team in 2010.

  20. IN THE HEAT OF THE DAY by William from the West When the young Demons run out onto Subiaco Oval to play in their opening NAB Cup match against Fremantle late on Sunday afternoon it will be in the heat of the day. The Weather Bureau is predicting warm, partly cloudy conditions with a maximum of 32 degrees with which to greet the teams but if they're young and fit and have done the hard yards over the summer off season this should not worry either side. Over here in Perth, the Dockers remain the poorer relation to the West Coast Eagles who relished beating Essendon in the first game of the opening round of the NAB Cup last weekend. This week's offering, which co-incidentally closes the round, between the Dockers and the dual wooden spooners in Melbourne isn't attracting anything near the attention that Nick Naitanui's break out game gathered. After all, the competing sides are both widely expected to finish in this year's bottom four along with Richmond and North. Still, the interest is there for this Demon fan from out west who has eagerly awaited the team's rare appearance on this side of the Nullarbor. I get to see them once or twice a year and there's no way that I would miss the opportunity to watch them take on the Purple Haze. Despite all of Dean Bailey's efforts to keep a lid on things, the main interest will naturally centre on Melbourne's first and second draft picks in Tom Scully and Jack Trengove. I notice that this twosome is being marketed together as if they were co-joined at the hip and they're that close to each other that I've heard references to a "Jack Scullgove" and "Tom Trengully". Anyway, I'm told that even at this early stage of their development it's like having a couple of extra men on the ground when they play! I'm also looking forward to seeing emerging future stars such as former Sandgroper Jamie Bennell, James Frawley, Jack Grimes and rookie ruckman Jake Spencer who is said to be coming on in leaps and bounds. The team might not be the strongest that the Dees can put on the park but it won't be lacking in youthful enthusiasm. The same could be said of the home team which is also injecting a lot of new blood into the system. For the Dockers, local young gun draftee Anthony Morabito will make his first appearance for the club, as will Victorian rookies Alex Silvagni and Michael Barlow. Ironically, Silvagni played right under the Demons' noses at Casey last year so his appearance might become something of an embarrassment to the visitors. The game also marks the return to the Dockers of the experienced Adam McPhee from where else but Essendon? They also have the formidable Kepler Bradley, coach Mark Harvey, Matthew Lloyd's brother and the recently retired Dean Solomon, all from Bomberland so I'm hoping that the Essendon curse that hit the State last week has hung around for an additional nine or ten days to finish off Fremantle as well. Depite the demise of Solomon and an injury to Chris Tarrant, the Dockers still have the edge in experience with skipper Matthew Pavlich, two time All Australian Aaron Sandilands, David Mundy and Paul Hasleby Sandilands should dominate the ruck ahead of inexperienced opponents in Spencer and Martin and that, along with the home ground advantage will see them starting as favourites. But don't discount the enthusiasm and fitness of the young Melbourne side. There is only one way for them and that is up and with my boys Scullgove and Trengully in the team then I'm going to tip a surprise upset for the bookies - Demons by 19 points. Fremantle v Melbourne at Subiaco Oval, 8.40pm AEDT (TV: Fox Sports 2, 8.30pm) Fremantle: Hayden Ballantyne, Anthony Morabito, Byron Schammer, Paul Hasleby, Garrick Ibbotson, Greg Broughton, Adam McPhee, Des Headland, Antoni Grover, Ryan Crowley, David Mundy, Luke McPharlin, Clayton Hickey, Michael Barlow, Chris Mayne, Dylan Robertson, Kepler Bradley, Ryan Murphy, Matthew Pavlich, Zachary Clarke, Aaron Sandilands, Stephen Hill, Alex Silvagni, Michael Johnson, Matt De Boer, Paul Duffield, Roger Hayden, Clancee Pearce, Jay Van Berlo. Melbourne: Matthew Warnock, Nathan Jones, Clint Bartram, Brad Miller, James Frawley, Jack Trengove, Cale Morton, Colin Sylvia, Jordie McKenzie, Ricky Petterd, Jack Grimes, Brad Green, Addam Maric, Daniel Bell, Brent Moloney, James McDonald, Liam Jurrah, Kyle Cheney, Jared Rivers, Joel MacDonald, Tom Scully, Stefan Martin, Aaron Davey, Neville Jetta, Jake Spencer, Jamie Bennell, Rohan Bail, James Strauss, Jack Fitzpatrick.

  22. Demons to unveil Fitzpatrick
  23. I actually think i just worked it out. Theoretically when you click on a thread from the homepage (if you are logged in) it will take you to the first new post since your last visit. Not sure if that includes whether you have visited that thread or not. That is if you've never been in a particular thread but it has been around for a few times that you have been logged in and then you visit that thread for the first time I'm not sure whether you will go to the newest post since your last visit or the newest post that you have seen (in the case of a first viewing you will be taken to the first post of the thread). Confusing I know but I won't be able to tell until more people other than myself post and it is 1:00am and there are not many people around at this time. Tomorrow morning I will know more so bear with me. Anyway, if you are not logged in and you click on a thread on the homepage your computers cache should remember that you have visited this thread on this computer and should take you to the newest post since you were last at the site. More confusion but it makes sense to me. Ah technology. Not sure how this all work across different computers and devices that you are visiting Demonland with. I'll keep you posted and go back to rambling and talking to myself.
  24. I worked it out and it was by accident! Now the question is .... What do people prefer? Homepage recent forum posts links: A. Link takes you to the first post in the thread B. Link takes you to the last post in the thread (ie: most recent) Either way you might need to scroll up or down or navigate to another page to see the last post you read - (And before you ask I'm looking into that but that is a whole new can of worms) I think it's going to be a case of the regulars wanting the most recent posts and the newbies or not so regulars reading topics from beginning to end rather than linking straight to end. I might need to start a new poll on this.
  25. That's the frustrating thing. There is a way to do it, I just don't know how and don't have enough expertise to work it out. I'll keep trying though.
