I have just listened to the last 2 hours of SEN and can't believe the absolute crap that comes out of this guys mouth...we have people calling up saying we need more past player involvement and he says (referring to melbourne) "WE, actually not we, them"....is he embaressed to have played for melbourne?

he also said something along the lines of "steve harris has changed the logo, because they are trying to get into the chinese...i can't believe he is trying to use china as the backbone for their memberships"

THAT IS NOT THE ONLY REASON WE ARE TRYING TO DELVE INTO CHINA. We are trialing with an initiative that no other club has thought about delving into until now...we could find ourselves a couple of chinese players playing football like no one has before. We are thinking outside the box just like we did with Ireland...we dont get any credit fot that these days...we are finally realising that maybe there are players from other origins that could be great AFL footballers and China is the place we have chosen...have a look at this Natanui fijian guy, he could be an absolute champion.

and on the china matter, shwarta, we are trying to possibly sign up a couple of members that are new to the country from china, but we arent trying to get china as the bloody backbone of our membership, why would you say that?...i mean here is a guy talking down to the club that he once played for, i dont believe it.

and just like garry lyon, writing articles about stuff that has to be done at melbourne....he is talking about people actually noticing problems and attacking them and taking initiative....why dont you do something garry, james brayshaw works a similar timeslot to you and does a lot for his club, eddie mcguire can...why cant you help your old club out a little more yourself, rather than complain...i have a lot of respect for garry lyon mind you, but i fin that he is contradicting himself somewhat because he could be such a boost to our club if he did more

sorry if i have offended anybody but i am annoyed

PG openly admitted the other night on footy classified that the utalising the contacts and the expertise of the Past Players was something that the MFC has struggled with in recent years. Lyon and Stynes went to Gardner about this very issue not long after Harris was sacked.

Schwarz like anyone has the right to have an opinion on how the footy club is running. He and Lyon know more about its struggles off field than 95% of the people on this board. FWIW I agree with him on the China issue, I think its a massive mistake, and the Melbourne Tigers unsuccessful foray into it is evidence of that.

At some point Lyon will make a final decision on whether or not he wants to coach or stay in the media. Should he stay in the media at some point he'll be on our board and most likely President of the footy club. I for one hope he is President sooner rather than later to give us a genuine public face.

i agree with you nugget and on gary lyon he is a classic fence sitter, he has an a opinion on everything but commitment to nothing. he prefers to stay in the media comfort zone where he can give simplistic solutions to complex problems and not have to get his hands dirty. love him or hate him at least eddie gets in the trenches with his team

Agree re Schwartz- I heard the same comment re China members and thought he was just being a smart alack! He often criticizes the club- past players of other clubs are loyal(bar Liber. at the moment) and make a few constructive comments. David just bags us at every opportunity- I get the feeling he does not like the club. I avoid listening to 1116 when he is on.

Schwarz was in the Hawks cheer squad as a lad growing up, and i suspect he'll be secretly wishing of a Hawthorn premiership this year.

I am hoping we can get off to a good start to give me some ammuniton to get on SEN and call him out of the Hawk loving traitor he is.

do you really think he would go for the hawks now? that is an interesting fact, somebody that sounds convincing should get onto SEN and put him into place

that is, if there are any melbourne supporters out there that would call up...we had about four today, and in comparison to the carlton callers, we hardly had any callers..

i do think however what he said about carlton was right, something along the lines of "they could have come out and made a statement saying this is what we believe in (if they suspended him) and bad behaviour will not be tolerated at carlton anymore" he also said that chris judd would probably have received a lot of support if carlton suspended fev because it would show he is trying to make a real difference as captain...about the only good things that david said all afternoon

More likely he'll think you're a tool.

I listen to the run home often and don't think Schwarz is overly critical of Melbourne. If he doesn't agree with Melbourne's push into China then that is fine. It is his opinion. He is paid by SEN to give it, not by Melbourne to promote the club.

More likely he'll think you're a tool.

Boy, would I be shattered.

Champion player, moron of a bloke.

when the job for CEO came up, the club wanted Greg Healy ex-captain (CEO of Billabong, l think), he knocked it back because he couldn't do it now but then organized with CC, when all the players got together for a night with Glen Lovett( who lives and works in London) to set-up something that ex-players can do for the club. Gary Lyon is NOT a fence-sitter, he and Jim Stynes have been actively involved with the club lately, since ND was sacked antway. Now Greg Healy, Anthont Ingerson and heaps of others are putting their hand up to do something about the club. Will everybody stop slagging off all these players and people who are trying to turn our beautiful, magnificent club around.

. Will everybody stop slagging off all these players and people who are trying to turn our beautiful, magnificent club around.

Or at least make it constructive criticism...lest we become too Richmondesque and have to change our club song to the Tiger's tune:

E.G

Its starts with the Chorus

Oh we're from Demonland

Spitting blood and fury

We're from Demonland

And our own, we shoot & bury

You will see us on our blog

Chastising everyman and dog

If we're not slagging off the board

We're ripping into our full forward

Or Ceee A Cee's draft picks

Chorus

We're experts upon the team for which we root

Though we've scarcely laced up a boot

Most of us have no idea, thats very clear

But never mind, dont get in a bind, its all good fun my dear

Chorus

Yes we're from Demonland RED AND THE BLUE

Yes we're from Deeeee Monnnn Laaaaand

  • GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons are back on the road again and this may be the last roll of the dice to get their 2025 season back on track as they take on the Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

The Gold Coast Suns find themselves outside of the top eight for the first time since Round 1 with pressure is mounting on the entire organisation. Their coach Damien Hardwick expressed his frustration at his team’s condition last week by making a middle-finger gesture on television that earned him a fine for his troubles. He showed his desperation by claiming that Fox should pick up the tab.  There’s little doubt the Suns have shown improvement in 2025, and their position on the ladder is influenced to some extent by having played fewer games than their rivals for a playoff role at the end of the season, courtesy of the disruption caused by Cyclone Alfred in March.  However, they are following the same trajectory that hindered the club in past years whenever they appeared to be nearing their potential. As a consequence, that Hardwick gesture should be considered as more than a mere behavioral lapse. It’s a distress signal that does not bode well for the Queenslanders. While the Suns are eager to remain in contention with the top eight, Melbourne faces its own crisis, which is similarly deep-seated but in a much different way. After recovering from a disappointing start to the season and nearing a return to respectability among its peer clubs, the Demons have experienced a decline in status, driven by the fact that while their form has been reasonable (see their performance against the ladder leader in the Kings Birthday match), their conversion in front of goal is poor enough to rank last in the competition. Furthermore, their opponents find them exceptionally easy to score against. As a result, they have effectively eliminated themselves from the finals race and are again positioned to finish in the bottom half of the ladder.

  • NON-MFC: Round 15

As the Demons head into their Bye Round, it's time to turn our attention to the other matches being played. Which teams are you tipping this week? And which results would be most favourable for the Demons if we can manage to turn our season around? Follow all the non-Melbourne games here and join the conversation as the ladder continues to take shape.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
