Veeeeery iiiiinteresting...

The demons are starved for success lately, and a big NAB cup would go a long way to increasing our profile and member support. If the Cats don't turn up hungry, we should have more than a sniff...

Looking forward to a week and a half from now.

I'm a bit sceptical about all the talk, that clubs aren't putting genuine effort into winning games in the NAB Cup (Geelong included)

Would a club actually come out and say that they are not planning on winning? It doesn't make sense ------ What is the ultimate "effect" from making these remarks?

This from the same AFL community that denies the existence of tanking, drug abuse, behavioural issues etc - perhaps because they have an axe hanging over their head.

I reckon clubs are becoming better liars than US stockbrokers - Don't believe a thing they say.

Doesn't really matter to teams like Geelong it they win it - they still get 4 pre-season games anyway. The NAB Cup only matters to clubs trying to boost membership and get the confidence that winning provides. Look at the Saints in 2004 - won the pre-season and the first 10 games of the season proper. We need to do well - what if Geelong play all their kids and beat us at full strength. That would be terrible for confidence and membership.

Thompson is even prepared to flout the rules in the game according to the Hun - We'll flout bench rule: Geelong. Now if those sentiments were expressed by the coach of the Kangaroos, Bulldogs or Demons, you can bet they'd get a "please explain" from Demetriou. Would he try it with the coach of the reigning premier?

Hadn't thought of that.

Though it's wrth noting that absolutely NO-ONE will be surprised if we're bundled out. We're favourites for the spoon for god's sake. Yes it's an opportunity to gain a few hings and take a few steps, but if you look at it closely, we have absolutely NOTHING to lose here.

$350000- would be useful to us. More than the sum we receive for giving up a home game, and compromising our chances of success.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
