Voss out of the coaching race

Featured Replies

If anything..Im impressed. Would take real understanding of self and quite frankly some guts to say NO. especially after all the hype etc.( without even mentioneing the Silly money probably on offer ) He knows some will call into question his abilities , backboneetc. He is playing the Voss card, for Voss. Good on him !!

Pagan was a dead man walking at Carlton and has been so for at 12 months prior.

You could send those signals to Thompson without playing your hand.

Harvey is assistant at Freo so he wont be available until year end.

Daniher is a free agent and they could have spoken to him on the quiet.

It does not add up why they did it when they did.

Despite my previous defence of Denis Pagan, there is no doubt you are correct on that one. It has been abundantly obvious that he was on the outer at Carlton since the Barry Mitchell fiasco.

I do disagree with the others though. Essendon have copped a reasonable caning from the media as it is - that would have been magnified a hundredfold if they were caught tapping up or interviewing other coaches while Sheedy was still a chance to coach next year (at least from a public perspective). The aforementioned Carlton/Mitchell scenario is a case in point.

Daniher indicated very early on that he would not speak to a club with an appointed full time coach and all three of Daniher, Thompson and Harvey had their entire playing careers under Sheedy. To paraphrase a quote made by Freddy Shepherd (ex Newcastle United chairman) in fairly similar circumstance, it would have been like shooting bambi. This way, particularly with Harvey in my view, they can now make a real play for any of those three whereas they could not before.

Well said bub I agree with you........

It was probably not the easiest decision to make, especially given the pressure surrounding him, and his choice of club, rather than the decision whether to coach.

The automatic assumption that existed would have been hard to go against, given he would have definitely had a gig of his choice next year.

Hopefully he will be the better equipped for the position in the future, if he decides to go that route when he is ready.

Apropos......

Voss vetoes coaching role

If Voss turned down the Carlton job, he won't want any senior coaching role. In my opinion its clearly the best option for a wannabe coach

Hopefully we'll try and get him as an assistant, if he is half as good as everyone makes him out to be

why do you think the carlton job was the best? yes there is money ut there is also the fact that the team is a long way from anything, have spent a number of years on the bottom without any upside and carlton are scumbags (fact).

where is the upside?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.
