My guess is that the NFL took over all the ticketing decisions. I don't think the MCG/MCC had a say in how the tickets would be sold (including prices).

Luckily for me I only had 9000 people in front of me in the queue. No major issues to get my two tickets.

The advice is to be ready at least 30 minutes before the sale starts. They have a virtual waiting room, which you should join as soon as possible.

NFL team members were on a week ago - same day as MCC Members. Amex presale happens at most events.

NFL team members had a waitlist of 150,000 people....

I got on at Amex presale - couldn't find a seat less than $350 so decided i wasn't spending $1400 for 4 tickets and left

And why does American Express card holders get 1st go , I looked into getting one ,$400 fee the average sports goer in Melbourne ,supposedly the sport going capital on the planet does not stand a chance of getting a fair ticket ,maybe the heads at Totem Pole House might have rethink about the GF and let the real football public a chance at getting a ticket instead of rent a crowd being looked after .

Needless to say there have been books written on the ticket selling industry. No system has ever been perfect and a computerised selling system with windows open for such short periods is complex to say the least. If it means anything we're a lot better off than USA where scalping is legal. Just have a look at sites like StubHub and Viagogo.

And yes there are programs run by large subsellers that give them priority. Would they have been operating in a one off event like this. Who knows. One thing is that there would be a large number of tickets sold to tour companies. The international and interstate demand for this game is quite high

As fast as I understand these tickets are not transferable, so how could you even try to sell them?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
