WERRIDEE's Weekly Wisdom Week 1

Featured Replies

I'm gonna try and put this out weekly. Just a review on the weekends matches and then a preview on our games.

Sydney V Carlton

Sydney look the goods their forward line is scary with Armitey, Curnow, McDonald, Papley and Heeney. They will be the big improvers this year. Carlton are Carlton they have nothing should finish close to bottom 4 how they overpaid Walsh when he didn't have a kick last year beggers belief.

Gold Coast V Geelong

Gold Coast could very well win the flag, Petracca was back to his vintage best what annoyed me most is that he kicked for goal straight, when has he ever done that for Melbourne. Already rueing the fact that Trac is no longer with us.

Geelong are ordinary without Dangerfield and Cameron.

GWS V Hawthorn

GWS would be rapt with how they performed with half their side out. Clarry was good but not sold on him have to see him a bit more to rue that fact that he is no longer with us.

Hawthorn have to be disappointed I think they have an average list but have been well coached.

Brisbane V Bulldogs

Great game both teams will be up there and both lost no admirers. We all know Brisbane will be up there when the whips are cracking but will the Bulldogs they should have been up there last year but fell away.

St.Kilda V Collingwood

St.Kilda continue to disappoint. They lost to Collingwood who had half their backline out. I'm waiting Collingwood to fall over like Geelong due to their age but they never seem to.

Preview

We are an unknown quantity which makes it exciting I have no idea which Melbourne will come out to play. Our preseason form has been good but we have beaten nothing in North Melbourne and Richmond. St.Kilda also had a great preseason but fell apart to Collingwood, so preseason form means nothing.

Unfortunately Marshall won't be playing as I thought he was a burden as a second ruckman. I'm confident we can use Culley as the second ruck more than ever. I hope they continue to use Wanganeen-Milera up forward more because he's more damaging in the middle. Perryman gave us the blue print to go with Wanganeen-Milera. I'd use Windsor to go with him everywhere.

I don't fear St.Kilda at all especially after playing Collingwood. I predict 18 point win to us.

Possible Melbourne Team

B: Lever, Petty, Salem

HB: Jiath, Turner, Lindsay

C: Langford, Steele, Langdon

HF: Chandler, van Rooyen, K.Pickett

F: Fritsch, Miocek, L.Pickett

FOLL: Gawn, Rivers, Windsor

IC: Sparrow, Howes, Tholstrup, Laurie, Culley

EMERG: McDonald, Heath, Sharp

We also play St.Kilda in a VFL practice match. It's hard to say how St.Kilda will go as they are new to the comp. Casey has been up and down with close losses to North Melbourne and Box Hill and we aslo got pumped by Richmond. Henderson should be back this week not sure about the rest.

Possible Casey Team

B: Bergman, Adams, Berry

HB: Taylor, McDonald, Bonner

C: L.Lual, Onley, Stanley

HF: Matthews, Bowden, Mentha

F: Cross, Ah Mu, Melksham

FOLL: Heath, D'Angelo, Sharp

IC: Henderson, Scaplin, Hampton, Pipicelli, Sinnema

They have picked the team and Sharp is in McDonald out. Culley will be the second ruck well predicted by the poster who mentioned it.

Thanks for the poster who pointed out my spelling mistake with Mihocek.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
