Eagles Woes

Given our horrific run of injuries from DAY ONE of the season, it is comforting to see the mighty West Coast team struggling when they too, are experiencing a bad run of injuries. It just shows it can happen to ANY TEAM. The big difference was that they were lucky in that they had THE WINS ON THE BOARD before their problems started. It might cost them a top 4 spot though. I still maintain that given a decent run with injuries next season, we still have what it takes. Am I being just too optimistic? Your thoughts please?

With a good run of injuries, i have no doubt we would have been up top 6 again, but its all hypothetical anyway.

i think we don't have the structure to go the next step and need a revamp. We need at least one big key defender and new pace in our backline.

i think westcoasts demise proves that any team struggles without there best players on the park.

injuries can be a legitimate excuse

it also shows how quickly the premiership window for a team opens and closes (not saying that West Coast's is closing). But when your team has a chance, you need to put everything on the line to win the bloody thing. Something Melbourne have not been able to do for some time.

West Coast can suffer in their jocks!

Bloody coke-sniffing cheats that they are. They are a disgrace to this competition.

/end rant :P

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
