Demonland Player of the Year - Round 15

Featured Replies

You're definitely the first I've seen to have Sylvia in the best.

I liked what I saw from him last night.

Was he really better than McLean's 33 touches, 13 contested possessions and 8 clearances?

I was at the game on Saturday night and struggled to find 6 players worthy of votes. I have managed though, so here they are:

6 - McLean

5 - White

4 - Davey

3 - Jones

2 - McDonald

1 - Bate

While Brown got a lot of the ball, he wasn't damaging. Bate had a poor first half, but his second half was excellent. Did a lot of 1%s and attacked the football hard. Was very impressed with him again.

I'm also accepting Bananabender's votes as follows:-

Melbourne McLean Brown White Wheatley Davey Sylvia

That makes the standings after Round 15:-

77. Nathan Jones

69. James McDonald

65. Cameron Bruce

63. Aaron Davey

62. Colin Sylvia Jeff White

54. Daniel Bell

51. Matthew Bate

44. Brad Green

41. Travis Johnstone

37. Simon Godfrey

35. Brent Moloney

30. Ben Holland Russell Robertson

28. Paul Wheatley

27. Brock McLean

25. Nathan Brown David Neitz

24. Adem Yze

21. Clint Bizzell

20. Brad Miller Ricky Petterd

18. Jared Rivers

9. Nathan Carroll

4. Daniel Ward

2. Paul Johnson

1. Lynden Dunn Michael Newton

sylvia was ordinary this award is completely rigged - Jones being on top is a joke

How so?

He's played almost every game, and has been consistent throughout the season.

He'll finish top 3 in the real B&F.

Because people play favourites and their votes are biased towards players that they like, usually young buzz players, for whatever reason.

Jones has been pretty good but he's averaging 16 possessions a game and is an ordinary kick - hardly starring

Jeff White, McDonald and Bruce should be whipping him in the votes

and sylvias polling is vastly inflated as well

I am the bigest fan of Sylvia, but no way does he deserve a vote for his game vs Brisbane

He was ordinary

Junior will win the Bluey by a mile, and I think Whitey will come 2nd

As for the rst of the top 5, raffle it between Sylvia, Bruce, Jones, Bell and Bate

Jeff White and Bruce should be whipping him in the votes

Why is that? because they get 30 cheap possessions a game, or 40 hit-outs that don't go to advantage?

Statistics should have absolutely nothing to do with the way we value a player. Not when half of the possessions are soft receives, or fluffed kicks, or hit-outs that don't actually help the side win clearances.

Junior should, and will, finish top 3. His consistency, work-rate, hardness at the footy, and selflessness is the sort of stuff I hope our coaches look at when they award the votes. Not meaningless stats.

Jones may only be averaging 16 possessions a game, but what about tackles? first possessions? clearances? And how about time spent on the ground? His possessions are influential, and his 'ordinary kick' puts Bruce's kicking skills to shame.

There will always be some bias in the way people vote, but Jones' position is nothing shocking and he will finish very highly in the real B&F.

No i think it is you who is the joke. Jones has been outstanding this season. His aggression and determination is inspring. a few of the more senior players should take a leaf from his book.

$100 says Jones and Sylvia arent in the B+F top 3!!! If I'm a joke, take the bet

I'll take that bet. One of them will be in the top 3 for sure.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
