2025 Player Reviews: #14 Jack Billings

Featured Replies

Billings managed only one game at Melbourne in the final year of his contract but was outstanding at VFL level where he played a significant role in Casey’s run into the finals often collecting 30 + touches during that period. His delisting was announced on the night of the club’s best and fairest count.

Good luck, Jack (as a wish rather than an observation, btw!😄)

Creditable words about his time at the Dees.

I think that’s very poor on the club, delisting the bloke on the night of the best and fairest.

Imagine everyone coming up to you and finding out and having to put on a brave face when you’re probably [censored].

Could have waited a day.

This article confirms something I already knew, which is that Jack loved his time as a Demon and was made to feel welcome by everyone at the club, despite all the chaos.

After a Casey game this year he introduced me to Sarah, his beautiful wife. She thanked me for the gift all new dads (or mums if a W player) receive from the DA upon the birth of their child and she said Jack is really happy at the MFC. Of course, this was before he was delisted. I know I’m not in the majority here but I’m sure gonna miss Jibba ☹️

I saw him, Sarah and pram in Church St Brighton (of course!) must have been just before, too. Gee players look 'normal' in the real world(*), including, in this case, that 'new dad' look I might just have imagined (there was also that fleeting 'you know who I am' look on his face, with a bit of a smile, luckily, when we made eye contact!)

(*As 'real' as Brahton can be...)

I felt sorry for Jack Billings seemed an all round good bloke, he was a very good footballer at Casey, consistently one of our best and most likely better than our bottom six at AFL level but his inability to finish off his great work in the ones ruled him out of the picture. Good luck Jack.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
