Hardie 👏👏👏

Spargo playing ??

Donovan Toohey starred in 2024 and in this season he averages 31 possessions for the Burgers and he looks like he would get an AFL game - JT… hello … Tim Smith … anyone there???

I mean this in a less narky way than it sounds, genuine question.

What are Ricky Mentha’s strengths supposed to be? Cos he’s been done for pace a couple of times already and whenever I’ve watched him appears to be an iffy kick…

He doesn’t look switched on today. Didn’t chase twice and has butchered the ball. He has pace and creativity but not showing it so far.

TC is smashing Coburg’s ruckman. He is taking the ball out of the ruck and running away from congestion. Great to see.

Hardie centre clearance lace out to Paddy Cross.

Low % goal kick from deep pocket. Behind.

Kentfield involved upfield another errant forward goal kick. Behind.

Culley bursts thru tackle mania pressure high.

Tmac looking freer this week. Ground conditions good no discernible breeze.

Henderson kicks another point. At least we’re consistent across both levels.

Charlie Spargo boiled lollies from 45 metres out (fell short).

Jack Henderson courage personified goal kicking boots off.

Casey generally dominating general play but wasting opportunities.

Score

Casey 2 goal 6 behinds

Coburg 1 goal 1 behind

Luker lovely judgement& mark kick off target. Yips has officially arrived 7th behind.

OOB on the full! Kentfield.

Blowing a gale? Unusually still today.

Coburg goal Casey fiddle.

Casey 2goals 7 behinds

Coburg 2 goals 1 behind.

Tom Campbell ruck journeyman palms to Mitch Hardie goal!!!

Rushed behind Coburg.

Tugboat Tom going well.

Kentfield showing more strings to his bow upfield.

Kentfield is the next big thing. (almost) Terrific mark hit the post.

Give him the gyroscope.

Luker Kentfield umpteenth mark.

Still no reward for effort.

Culley showing requisite physicality.

Skills Skills Skills???

Suburban footy…

Culley call up in the offing? Going strongly.

Woey big tackle. Free

Miskick another behind.

Mitch Hardie only reliable kick goal after siren.

Hallelujah!

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

  • POSTGAME: St. Kilda

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
