When running forward with the play yes or do you think they just run with their opponent? When they haven't got the ball they man up to stop the flow.

I think they have pretty defined roles. Especially within our powerhouse all team defensive structure that has been industry standard for years now. I imagine it depends on the team we are playing and where the game is at and I also imagine each midfielder has a different set of instructions around things of that nature. It seems to me even when we are in all out attack there is a lot of structure and discipline around remaining defensively sound and in correct formation. Defense first has been a team mantra for many years.

Yes, I agree. What I was saying is that Oliver has some deficiencies and could be a more dangerous player if he moved forward as a midfielder more often when the opportunities arise. The game plan we played certainly didn't help that, but you made some good points; a pity the conversation got derailed in the first place.

Amazing for me given how most players who have come over from other clubs haven't been able to get close to the MFC running when they start in pre season and this guy's come in from only one season of VFL and is way more up to speed than any of them. He looks particularly agile and quick off his feet.

Totally impressive, something to really look forward to on the first couple of game days. Let's hope that he is awarded for his abilities and enthusiasm - receiving a role in the team that really makes a difference - not just an out-of-position assignment.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
