Yze to miss against Crows

MELBOURNE’S Adem Yze is set to miss his second consecutive match after sustaining a groin injury this week.

Yze, 29, was a late withdrawal from the Demons side that lost to the Kangaroos by a point at the MCG yesterday and is likely to miss again this week against Adelaide. This following a remarkable consecutive run of 226 matches which ended earlier this year, in Round 2, after Yze was dropped for the match against Hawthorn.

Yze currently sits equal third for most games at Melbourne with 264 career matches (equal with Jim Stynes) since making his debut in 1995 and, although injuries are just starting to cause him some trouble, looks set to become one of the first Demons to play 300 games.

Officially the worst season, injury wise, in the history of the club.

This is getting beyond belief. Something is wrong...

I didn't think Yze could even get injured :o

Can anyone tell me how may players have played every game this year for us?

Bruce, Carroll and Davey are the only ones who come to mind

There are 7 - Bruce, Carroll, Davey, White, McDonald, Miller and Bell

Don't worry, I'm sure we'll lose all these guys to injury at some stage

It is getting beyond a joke, and while we can't convincingly blame the new fitness regime, surely the club will have to look at it closely come the end of the season. In all my time supporting this club, I don't ever remember having so many injuries.

There are 7...Bell

if 12 months ago someone had told you that bell would remain injury free and play 9 games in a row, would you have believed them? i wouldnt have.

Thank christ as well; he has been great in defence all year imo.

has he stopped running into people? or has his body just got that bit harder? i've loved watching bell with the ball this year, he has been a revelation...

Yes, yes... absolutely!

I've been on his bandwagon for years. He has always had the right skill-set to make it, and the only thing holding him back was his body.

And the Yze haters do a merry dance and wish it was Bruce too probably

The last thing we need is Bruce getting injured and affecting his trade value

 i haven't laughed that much since demonblog claimed that if ten years ago, if they were told melbourne would be 0-9, they'd then ask if brent grgic was captain. granted it was only yesterday, but that doesn't detract. bruce is the only player i can't deal with watching melbourne play

thankyou- belly..in my fav players

hard running, going to be great for us,and has been.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
