Terrific Article in todays Age on Flash and his brother and Mum.

Rings very true as Aaron has shown maturity and level headedness from the time he first came to MFC. A class act off as well as on the field.

Lizzie will be justifyably proud of both sons.

My boys, Matt, Ooze (No 13) and Anthony very proud of him too.

Thanks for the link TonyM. After reading that I would think Lizzie is a shoe in to win the award. What a fantastic lady to have raised 5 kids largely on her own and be able to see two of them playing at the elite level.

Obviously an amazing lady - she should be proud of her boys!

an amazing lady obviously.

i don't understand the use, by journalists, of the phrase 'he ran and goaled'. goaled is not a verb. it should be either, 'he ran and scored' or 'he ran and kicked a goal'. its poor english and is coming from people who should know better.

(this all comes from a person with an apparent allergy to capital letters :P )

Congratulations to Lizzie, she was just named mother of the year on the footy show.

Very Well Deserved!!

Just a queary...is that mother of the year for afl or mother of the year in all australia? Ill ask that question incase my rant may not be needed

It's within the AFL I'm pretty sure, and well done to her.

To raise the kids on her own, must have been very difficult. If you watched the Footy Show, they read out the application form that Aaron and Alwyn sent in. It was a really good indication of how much they love and appriciate everything she has done for them.

Ok thats fine. No rant needed lol. Good work to her, she deserves it

Well done Lizzie for raising some very fine football playing sons, and raising them on your own

You have deserved this award for the player's mother of the year

And good on Aaron and Alwyn for loving their mum so much they would recommend this to her

her last name is corrie, whilst i know aaron and alwyns arent brothers with anothy corrie from brisbane, might be a close cousin?

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
