I had a couple of concussions in my playing days and NEVER as a result of ground hardness. A thuggish elbow and a deliberate fist come to mind. In fact I cant recall a player coming to grief because of hard ground issues

Well, young 'picket' the only time I was knocked out in my time of playing footy was through ground hardness.

Apparently (obviously I don't have first hand recollection) my head hit the turf in the goal square as a result of a tackle.

The next thing I know is paramedics asking me dumb questions like "what is your name", in the rooms.

There were murmurings towards the end of the season suggesting that the concussion/injury sub would not exist next year or, at least, would evolve into something else. I fear that will mean a fifth interchange player. Has there been any announcement as to what will happen with the 23rd player in 2022?

Don’t expect anything before 48 hours before the season starts…. I read somewhere they would prefer another year of ‘consolidation’ re rules rather than change, by who knows?

Friend of mine finished his career because of a concussion due to a sling tackle into the ground. Was in the action of kicking.

He was breathing like a British bulldog for 5 mins and when he came to he could only name me, no other question he could answer for hours.

Really scary.

That's not good...and for all the focus on this at the top level so many of us have copped as bad or worse at local footy over the years.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
