C'Mon Oooze - LIFT!!!

After all the talk, rumour and crap that's been floating around in the last day or so regarding Yze playing Friday night - and it coming to the point with us still not knowing whether or not he is going to play - I thought I'd just say a quick something on the night before we will all know (obviously in a seperate thread to the million other Yze threads).

Yze has never been my favourite player nor have I ever been his biggest fan, but to be quite honest we need the bloke - and we need him up and going not only on Friday night, but for the whole year. For us to win the flag, Adem Yze has to be fighting with a number of players to win our B&F, being 1 of our best week in - week out!

If the chance comes your way this week Ooze - for God's sake take it......you've been a champion for our club and have won us many games. Prove me and everyone else wrong - WIN US ANOTHER ONE!

His time is now, of that there is no doubt.

He has the potential to win us a few games this year and still be an AA FP, but it is up to him.

Personally I want him to play Friday night, and to show us whether he's committed or not.

Yze has received his wake up call.

Danners has done it in a very diplomatic way and has really up the ante with Yze over the last two weeks.

I have a strong feeling Yze will have a blinder on Friday night.

Let's hope so as we really need him.

My 'ironic' prediction.

Yze will play a great game on Friday night.

He'll kick goals, lay tackles and put his body on the line for the good of the team. By this stage he will have re-gained some much needed respect from the coaches, players and fans alike before going in for the hard ball one more time and injuring himself.

Ending any chance of achieving his consecutive games record.

Totally agree that for MFC to finish in top 4 and have a realistic crack at a flag we need him in top form.

We hope Adem is given the opportunity and plays a blinder on Friday night. with many others!

It is a pity this is the only news story on the Dees leading up to the first game of the season!

but to be quite honest we need the bloke

I absolutely applaud the gist of this thread, but I'm not sure about this phrase here. I'm not so certain we "need" him. can see us being hugely successful with him out of the team as well as in. But that's beside the point.

MFC celebrated Jim breaking this record some years ago, and on the very match he broke it the commentators said it's a rule that would never be broken. As he said this a young floppy haired Yze was running right behind the man who set this record. If it's going to be broken I don't want ANYONE to say that he did it because he shirked contests, or was soft, or whatever. Whether or not it's true is up to the individual, of course, but what I want is for the record not to be a farce.

What's the worst that could happen Ooze? Maybe you go in hard the match before you break or equal the record and are knocked unconscious because of a selfless and admirable act. What happens then? You're remembered even more fondly because you sacrificed an almost certain place in footy history for your team/teammate's/club's benefit. You'd be more of a legend then than you would be if you broke it. In that sense it would be the same as Rohan Smith announcing his retirement before his 299th game, which was a knockout final. If the dogs lost that game he'd be remembered for self-sacrifice, not a number.

Yes, but is it a record worth taking note, or just signs of a player who is fairly soft? By no means should we be keeping a bloke in the side because he might one day break some "record!" I think too much is made of the consecutive game thing, and this honestly shouldn't come into the equation. This isn't my point however, my is that I hope he plays and plays well - forget the reasons why or why not and just get on with it!

He got reported in the NAB Cup for tripping, and therefore has carry-over points.

He could very well lose his streak due to suspension...wouldn't that be ironic!

The fact of the matter is if he plays similar to his pre-season form, he'll be playing for Sandringham by round 2 or 3. He's got a hell of a lot of work to do to remain in the side.

Having said that, I'll be happy if he breaks the record, but would feel a bit for Jimmy Stynes.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

It was bad enough that the Melbourne Football Club created yet another humiliating scenario inside its wretched season at Marvel Stadium last Sunday, but the final insult is that it has been commanded to return to the scene of the crime to inflict further punishment on its fans this week. Incidentally, if this match preview, of a game that promises to be one of the most unattractive fixtures in the history of the game, happens to cut out of your computer screen three quarters of the way through, it’s no coincidence. I’ll be mirroring the Demons’ lacklustre effort against St Kilda from last Sunday when they conceded the largest last quarter turnaround for victory in the history of the game.

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.
