Cornes Staggered By Dees Decisions

Featured Replies

Cornes just takes pot shots at all clubs to the point now that he has become irrelevant .

No one takes him seriously and he is absolutely the archetypical ,boy who cried wolf.

No no no ... I won't have it. He segues to the ad breaks like a champ. You'd think he's been doing radio for 20 years and not 3. Star.

MFC has locked in Harmes, hence eliminated any threat of losing him at end of 2020. Maybe backended the contract to free up salary cap space for potential short term future deals. Glass half full or half empty.

Yep, it’s plainly negligent for the club to lock away a young, required player with plenty of upside (who’s coming off contract next year) and who’ll attract a lot of interest throughout the entire season from a stack of other clubs, thereby creating a lot of unnecessary noise and distraction, for a further 4 years.

Josh and Co are clearly dumb dumbs.

As an aside, surely this reveals that the club think Harmes is set for a big 2020.

I actually like Cornes but he is building his media profile on sensationalist journalism. Not sure if he actually believes all of what he says.

The acquisitions of Lever and May can only be judged quite a way down the track. Especially Lever who is only 23 years old.

Sure a four year extension for Harmes is fair period of time but he wouldn't be on massive cash would he? We are not warding of a rival bid here just one less player to sign up next year. Decent list management.

I like Cornes as a commentator too, says what he thinks and doesn't care what others think about it, unlike many ex footballers in media who are too scared to say anything bad about current footballers. Don't agree with Harmes comments though, Harmes is a good footballer, will go probably another 7-8 seasons and play over 250 for Demons, wouldn't be on too much, maybe $400k a season, why not give him a 5 year deal, don't see the issue here..

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
