I was told that at a recent business lunch, at an exclusive Australian ‘businessmen’s club’ the CEO was present and told an audience that we are expecting a significant financial loss at the end of the season. I’ve posted this on previous threads and no one seemed to believe it. I think we are back up [censored] creek

I was told at a different business meeting that the MFC we're in negotiations to buy the MCG for..... 1 million dollars.

Forget logic OD.  Based on examples from some recent posts (some examples above), i reckon this thread has now had it's own JTS moment (see below) and is now in it's final throes...

I can’t believe the lack of awareness and reporting on the situation in the Amazon. A Kardashian thing falls over and it’s all over the news. The world is royally screwed.

Errr, because it probably caused an earthquake!

Surely we'd be going in there along the lines of

So what went wrong?

Well, Uncle Gilly, as the only club in the AFL without a real home, we're unfortunately struggling for our identity. We once had a fortress, but for one reason or another, that's been given away to our biggest opposition, and then shared among other clubs that have exploited our oppression.

You have a home Gil, where the au pairs nurture (frolic with) the beautiful children (or is it the other way around??). We need the same.  So here's the deal, [censored]. Pre-season fine, we'll use Goschs. We need facilities within the G for everything else, and we want to train on the ground in season. We will be the only club that has that advantage, because, well, we are Melbourne. With all of the AFL and state government funding provided to other clubs to move and grow as they like, I believe the AFL need to show us the same commitment and assist us in a deal to fund our new (old) home.

Also, in regards to this priority pick nonsense. If you were to grant a PP to the Gold Coast, you'd be admitting that early draft picks can assist a club in moving up the ladder. That would also be admitting that when Melbourne was at it's lowest point, and the 2 newest clubs to the competition were taking all of the draft advantages they were given, you were actually crucifying us as a club, condemning us to a prolonged period at the bottom of the ladder, damaging our finances moving forward.

On those grounds you simply cannot continue to hurt this club any longer by allowing another draft pick ahead of ours. Unless of course the GCS wish to hand us a player like Jack Martin for nothing. You know, Jarrod Lyons style.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
