Free kick differentials

Featured Replies

This is a useless stat. Should be looking at how many free kicks teams get that weren't there. EG. the amount of times players drive their heads in tacklers and draw the free

Attached is a representation of Carlton's season, in terms of Disposals (D), Contested Possessions (CP), Clearances (CLR), Tackles (T) and Frees Against (FA). Frees Against is displayed on a different scale (right hand side) as the volumes are so low it wouldn't demonstrate the point. I'd suggest from a season perspective they were about their mark on each of those stats, except one.....

I realise stats don't tell the whole story, but this is poking me in the eye (with no free kick paid). Sure we may not have been first to the ball all day, but I haven't seen a rule stating if you're first to the ball you can't be penalised. The rules still state you must either dispose of the ball legally if first to the ball, or tackle legally if second to the ball.

Disclaimer: Not saying we would have won, simply stating this game was very unusual in regards to the free kick count of one team.

The umpires did not cost us the game we achieved that all on our own.

Every losing team has a handy excuse blame the umpires.

Pretty sure i was complaining about the free kick coq-ups in the Hawthorn/Melbourne Game and Port/Melbourne Game as well, both of which we won?

It was more a general comment willmoy. I just take little notice of free kick ratios. While in some games there are glaring errors they seldom IMO affect the result of a game. As supporters we tend to only remember the howlers against us.

The game against Carlton was lost because we let them dictate the play and we were very inaccurate in field kicking and scoring goals.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
