At the risk of being accused of advocating communism, I have trouble understanding why team A, be it Collingwood or Melbourne or North , "hosting team B, be it Collingwood or Melbourne or North, at say the G, should reap 100% of the profits, with the "visiting team" whose "home ground" this may also be getting nothing.

It takes two teams to play a game.

My communistic thought us that the AFL should pool all the revenue from all games, pay the running costs of the games, and distribute equitably the profits.

Currently the "draw" aka  fixedture determines to a large degree which teams remain rich and which remain poor, and perpetuates this inequity.

If Eddie's plans are reliant on putting Richmond station underground then that plan will never leave the platform. Not exactly a 5 min exercise.

Even without the new EddieHad Stadium, which I am sure is the name that he would insist on using, under grounding Richmond station, through which about 9 services run, plus V line and freight, would be a monumentally disruptive for years, and exorbitantly expensive excercise.  Even under grounding a few stations on the Dandenong line is too much hence Denial Andrews' (until recently) secret sky rail plan.

Mono,  I think eddie would prefer the proper name Eddie'sHat Stadium (it has a roof)..  just by the by.

Agreed,  underground rail is way too expensive to build,   & to maintain as well.  Especially down around Chelsea in the sand dunes,  where it would be well below the sea level of Port Phillip Bay.

And especially over long distances.

The Skyrail makes a lot of sense with bike trails underneath.  Also the construction columns could be curtained off with native vegetation to blockout any graffiti.

This is especially so along the Mordialloc to Frankston foreshore area along the Nepean Highway.

But I would like to see them add outer shields onto the construction of the elevated precast track support sections.  yes it adds cost & weight & wind issues,  but screens the view of passing trains,  & could act as a noise suppression tool.. making the appearance more appealing.

Also the Frankston line should be looped to the Cranbourne line via Somerville,  then through Tooradin to Cranbourne.   And reopen the Mornington section in doing so.   This allows shipping container freight to be railed direct to Dandenong from the Hastings - Stony Point port areas.

Once the AFL takes over Etihad in 10 years time - some of these issues disappear.

And the facilities at Etihad can be stripped out and improved surely?

I don't see the desperate need tbh.

When Docklands is handed over to the AFL it must have already been upgraded as per the contract.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
