The big issue with O'Meara is - will his knee allow him to get enough miles into his legs so that he can run out an entire game of AFL?

That was what stopped Cooney in the years following his Brownlow- the ability doesn't disappear, but if you can't run out matches, you're a liability. 

 

Yep, the question mark will always be there. If it looks fine for a year... will it hold up long term? If it goes alright for three or four more years... will it end up shortening his career?

That's the trouble when your knee actually looks like a question mark.

Tom Scully was said to have degenerative knee issues but seems to be ok now. Same with Burgoyne. Not all knee injuries are the same though so only time will tell.
