Victorian State Election - November 2014

opening up the RIP was a big mistake. it protects us, what we have built around the waters edges, & with climate change & rising Sea Levels expected many areas are under threat.

the Bay at present only ever half fills or half empties, its really not a BAY; but an estuary lake.

what happened to the EasternTP ?

Only joking! What trade were you in? We're you working for a contractor or for The Board?

I was an apprentice carpenter on the site. an interesting site, with interesting characters. much trouble. an eye-opener into peoples differing ideas & values.

but it was great to not be working in the middle of the traffic snarls & suburbia.

I'm not overly huge on state politics as ever since Kennett, it's been a place where the flakiest and least talented flotsam and jetsam of both parties go to serve time.
That being said.... I like the idea of RobbieF and BenHur crying into their beers (or Grange Hermitage in their cases). Suffer in your jocks, you stooges.

The libs are gone. However just watched interviews with lib 2 members who cant accept this . One was this Bauer slag from bayside cant remember the other one. Arrogant clowns just don't get the fact that voters have the final say.

Two more years and then we can pizz off Mr. Rabbit as well.

they don't care about voters just their agenas... born to rule mentality. the age of entitlement is still strong between their tears

not before he does an enormous amount of damage

he'll kill off the manufacturing sector before we can remove him & his party. he's going to run it into the dirt deliberately, to cause unemployment right thru the trades sector. trying to crash wages & conditions, because we can't compete with Asian wages & conditions.

he doesn't want to de-float or use tariffs. but it will eventually happen. the globalisation is bullsh. it won't settle till we all earn nothing, across the world, as one lowers costs another will go further. the race to the bottom.

It will end up with civil wars... cannot happen this way. faulty thinking by number crunchers.

the answer is to elevate the working conditions of Asian workers, but they're governments won't go for that... so all we can do is look after our own domestic economy.

Buy Australian.

Helllooo, is anyone home ?

Its awfully quiet in this cave here...

What did you expect? You're probably the only person in the country who wants to wind the clock back 30 years by re-regulating the dollar and re-introducing tariffs.

Those days are over DL

No, I don't think so Gv. I think the current credit cycle styled economy has run its 50yr race & there is no where else to go, but back to predominant domestic economies with a little international trade.

the only other alternative now, is all equal wages across the world for all workers, with the same conditions, but where is the leverage for investors when you take into account shippage?

I think the recession is on the doorstep... russia, euro, the usa in trillion$ of bother, japan, etc

the prophets do say we do away with money, & with greed. is it about to all fall down.

I'm not a big fan of Mr Andrews, but did he actually just do something he promised to do during the election campaign?

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/victoria-state-election-2014/ambulance-victoria-board-resigns-as-daniel-andrews-reaches-agreement-with-paramedics-on-conditions-20141205-120wox.html

Someone pinch me.

The irony being that Andrews had exactly the same problem with the ambos, their union, and a protracted pay dispute when he was Health Minister in the previous Labor Government.

If I'd been the Libs, I would have painted the current mess as a continuation of the problems which began under Andrews.

not the only

heres a start to sanity & fairplay - Tax breaks on housing, shares and super distort behaviour, benefit the rich: Murray

The Murray inquiry recommends scrapping tax breaks for property.

Tax breaks for housing, shares and superannuation could all be scrapped, and GST could apply more broadly if the Abbott government listens to the final recommendations of the financial systems inquiry.

The report by former Commonwealth Bank chief executive David Murray suggests a raft of tax breaks distort borrowing, including negative gearing, capital gains tax concessions and dividend imputation.

Mr Murray takes particular aim at tax breaks for housing, saying negative gearing and capital gains tax exemptions on the family home tends to encourage leveraged and speculative investment and is a potential source of systemic risk for the financial system and the economy.

Mr Murray pointed out capital gains concessions were a tax subsidy for the wealthy and reducing them would lead to a more efficient allocation of funding in the economy.

"All else being equal, the increase in the after-tax return is larger for individuals on higher marginal tax rates," he said.

While Mr Murray does not suggest outright scrapping them, his report puts them forward as concessions that distort behaviour and create risk, which increases the chance they will be examined in the upcoming tax white paper.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
