GWS Salary Cap

Featured Replies

is the "living in sydney expenses" on top of that?

The leg-up expense?

Often wonder if the "other 17 clubs" are more peeved at the Sydney living expenses the Sydney teams get, or a PP for the 'very strong argument' poorly performed side with a % of 54?

Hmmm, let's chew on that one for moment. How do you like them apples?

Only if there is a trade.

With pick 1 in the PSD, GWS will be angling for that.

No trade.

Yes, they don't need a trade as they will, get him through their first pick in the PSD for nothing ( except what they need to pay him of course). Remember, the player has to nominate financial terms when he goes into the PSD and this usually reflects already negotiated deals. Remember the Pies manipulation of the PSD a couple of years ago to get Luke Ball before us? This is how Martin will get to GWS this time but will still put pressure on the GWS Salary cap which may open up the possibility of our obtaining Adams from them for nothing (in terms of having to put up trades) via pick 2 in the PSD. A deal nearly as good as the Viney deal last year in my view. A great start to building a great engine room for next year. Needless to say, this arrangement would be far far preferable to our acquiring Martin either through the PSD, or ( heaven forbid) via pick two at the national draft.

It is very interesting seeing the way Roos is playing this. He is keeping everyone guessing. My guess is he is not saying no to Martin to bid up GWS's asking price for him and to keep him away from the likes of Carlton and Brisbane, but I bet he has no intention of actually doing a deal for him. Would send all the wrong signals to do with culture. He (Roos) nevertheless is a master tactician. It is wonderful to behold!

I have real concerns we won' t be able to get any of the major players we are after and may have to settle for scraps.

That is why the PP is so important.

It also clearly shows how hard it is for a club like us to rise up the ladder. The bigger clubs are always the favoured destination of good players on the move.

Lets see how strong the attraction of playing under Roos really is. We will see.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chances—plenty of them—but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Port’s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.
