What to do with .... thread?

Its nearing the end of this season and with a handful of games left we as a club can have one eye to 2014.. we have to?

I'm not sure as to another thread that is of this nature so I thought I would start it.

What to do with a certain player in terms of trade, de list, positioning or simply getting a senior game or games.

I'll start it off What to do with Mark Jamar!

It's of my view that we should mutually reach an agreement for him to finish up playing.

Offer him a job at the club to work with the ruckmen if he decides he doesn't want to play on at any other club.

Trade Mark Jamar.

I'll save you from consecutive thread fail there!

Jamar has 2 years left on his contract. (yeah massive face palm on that one thanks Tim Harrington). I don't think he'll be looking to cut a deal to prematurely end his career just yet. I think we look into trading him but we need experienced heads around the club. We thought we'd figured out the midfield future when we wound McDonald up. I love Gawny and Spencer has surprisingly been decent but it's no done deal. I think unless the offer is very very good we keep Jamar and get at least 1 position where we have depth and experience. Gawn will be a better player if Jamar is pushing him every step of the way. Not to mention Gawn is still at the age where an entire season as starting ruck is a big call.

Sam Blease I think should be offered up to trade. A new coach will want to save him because they'll see the speed that represents a good talent but I just don't see any footballing skills. By that I mean chasing, tackling, pressuring, winning the ball in close, winning the ball in space and most damning knowing what and being able to execute when he does have the ball. He plays like a headless chook and isn't a natural small forward and has zero tank. I'd settle for preferably a decent B grade mid who can make an impact but otherwise a high third round pick would do me. I just don't think we have the luxury of the time to wait putting effort into Blease anymore.

I think we should trade Jamar for Witts. Can you tell us more about Witts as a player Household Demon. I d love to know your thoughts on the pecking order at Collingwood to see if he would be available

Interesting you say this Deelirious.... I've had a close look at him and with grundy being probably the better of the 2 we could grab this bloke in a trade

Would be a massive +

I have to agree with you. It would be a massive +

Jamar for Witts? Are you people insane. You really think Collingwood would go for that? A bloke the wrong side of 30 for a guy who's yet to enter his prime but has a tonne of talent.

Yeah Grundy might go slightly ahead of Witts right now but they are both Collingwood's future and imposing ones at that.

Jamar is worth a third round pick these days at best. Be realistic.

Ben Hudson says hello. I think Collinwood would need to fill the gaping hole he will leave when he retires at seasons end

Yeah and I think they have a plan. Jolly will stick around for another year as the established ruck and the improvement over a preseason from Witts and Grundy will leave them nicely placed. Jolly has been as good as Jamar and is unreliable injury wise. With the 2 young guys a year older they won't need Hudson's cover. They'll probably look for a 4th ruck to go on the rookie list possibly recycled from another club or from a state league like a Hannath.

Even if they did want Jamar why would they give up Witts. It makes no sense. Buckley is rebuilding on the run and Witts and Grundy will be key planks of the rebuild.

I think we should learn from our past mistakes and keep Jamar for the length of his contract. He will be able to offer experience around the club and god knows we need that. He will also be a handy replacement if Gawn or Spencer goes down. We have prematurely got rid of our older players in the past and it's killed us. I would actually prefer he never plays another game as it means Gawn and Spencer are both doing well but the input he can provide for both of their careers could be valuable.

Exactly, if we want to get rid of him they'd know they could offer pick 80 and we'd probably take it.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
