Foundation Heroes

Featured Replies

I personally think that us run of the mill supporters owe a lot to the Foundation Heroes.

If it wasn't for their generosity, we wouldn't be in existence as an MFC team.

We would be completely run by the AFL like GWS, what a sad indictment that would be on a club that started this great game.

Yes & No old boy,

.... I think that the high end supporters who often influence or even get onto our past boards, have inadvertently caused the fracturing of this clubs supporter base.. & the dee-mise of its supporter numbers thru no where for the grassroots supporters to go & watch training & socialise & attach to over a coffee, or meal & drink, away from the games... @ training nights/days etc....

... we need to get our HQ's & Administration Offices, away from the MCG & situated at Our Own Training/Social Hub, next to a Railway Station & public transport.

So the 'run of the mill supporters', should be More involved in the 'goings on', around the club.

.... a wider supporter base would transfer into a stronger Membership base, & would help to resurrect the MelbourneFC organisation, back into what it started out as, a Footy Club... & a family type club.

I know what you are saying. Too many people are nice on the way up and then change when they get there. That is so of many types of situations. Not all fall into this category.

Mick Coghlin and some of his fellow directors were very easily approachable and were happy to mingle and explain where they could.

I recall a candidate for the VRC Board who was so far up my clacker to get my vote and once elected she barely noticed me. That happens.

You make a good point though, the membership is vital and Directors should find ways to mingle where possible and interact with the membership to explain what we are doing and to empower the membership by that feeling of truly belonging.

There have been initiatives in the past such as the forum but I know they are not easy to run successfully.

I am a FH and am certainly not a high end supporter. It took me a year to pay the FH contributions - I have a run of the mill salary.

I just realised that sounds very self-important and stuck up - it wasn't meant to be. Just trying to make the point that not all FH are high flying corporates or blue bloods spending Daddy's money. Lots of us ARE run of the mill grass roots members.

Precisely. I say as much in my post above. However, I do agree, it is long overdue that all supporters have some sort of centralised spiritual home, to mingle and chat in a more social environment. One hopes that is not to far off
